okodorifuto, do some research on that subject. The conditions that elephants are kept in while in a zoo look great to humans but are horrific for the needs of the species. They roam up to 80 miles a day in nature. There is no zoo that has 80 miles, unless you consider walking the same half a mile loop as a good option to a natural 80 mile loop

I think it's because it's been cooped up too long in one place - horses that are constantly stabled inside without access to open spaces sometimes develop that 'weaving' motion too as a way of relieving boredom :(
