Just because she made a teary speech and not a memorable wow heart wrenching one, doesn't mean she did not deserve that Oscar people. Her performance in The Hours was memorable and breathtaking. So breathtaking that you wouldn't mind watching it over and over again. She showed us the life of a brilliant woman struggling with many different levels of mental illness and it was fantastic. Zellwegger's performance in Chicago was amazing I admit, but I think Nicole's stood out more.

They really should have a Best Botoxed Actress Oscar in Hollywood. It's amazing how with all that emotion Nicole Kidman's eyebrows can't move upward just once. The effect is that she looks angry.

I don't understand why people keep dissing her! She is a phenomenal actress and totally deserved to win the Oscar in 2003! She obviously loves her family very much and she probably loves acting almost as much.

Cher, Kate Winslet, Monique, Sandra Bullock.. yeah something's not right if they're the only ones (excellent actresses though) and so agreed with you about Nicole.

Renee Zellweger is simply the one who's not expertly hiding her feelings - which, for everyone in that situation, would be nervousness, anticipation and fear. The other candidates are doing a very good job playing happy-to-be-here. That's all.

@sternumagnum THANK YOU! Renee is not thinking "I'm the best!", she's absolutely nervous as heck. It was a dead split between her and Nicole and everybody knew it. Nobody knew who would win though. Renee and Nicole both got the Golden Glove, Nicole got the BAFTA, and Renee got the SAG. Julianne Moore was a dark horse (and you could tell by the way everybody cheered for her), but it was impossible to make a sure bet on the winner. I can tell Renee was destroyed inside :(

The Hours is one of my all-time favorite films. All three main performances are outstanding but Nicole steals the movie. She's amazing! So deserved!
