I met Ruby once or twice when she was playing around the south, in knoxville TN. I think one time when Blackfoot played there, one time with another band. She always got pulled up on stage to sing one or two, late 70s...She was precocious and coy....and to a young guy like me then, always a fantasy I could never have.....always loved the hair style.....awesome. Chicks who rock......RULE!

my ruby story: i tended bar at the jabberwocky in milwaukee every monday when she hosted the open jams~ later i moved to toledo~ got a job bartending in a club there~ soon after ruby moved back to toledo and was the house band every thursday~ we hung out together ALOT in toledo~

so blessed to have gotten to see and hear that much of her~ humbled to have called her 'friend'~

She was FANTASTIC we didn't see her till the 80's in "Ruby Starr" with Robb, Mudd, Freddie, and Steve but oh man did we LOVE them and have a good time watched them all over the state of WI and partied with them too. I was an espiring young bassist in the mid 70's... It was Don Kershner's "Rock Concert" that exposed me to all that was music back then... That's where I saw Ruby Starr for the first time... Caught her live show twice after that. I've recently taken the bass seat in a band in S/W Florida with female front person who is a little reminisent to me of Ruby... I'm come back to Ruby Starr's music for inspiration... RIP Ruby, you were ahead of your time...

I played in a local rock band named Aggressor in Green Bay, Wi. in the 80's. We opened for Ruby and Grey Starr several times. Those were the good old days.

I saw her twice in California in '78?. She kicked her leg up and wasn't wearing panties. I saw a pic of that a year or so later in Playboy or Penthouse.

Also a former guitar player with BOA, Mike Martin was a good friend of mine. He was killed in a motorcycle wreck about 4 years ago.RIP Ruby and Mike!!!

We saw Ruby and Grey Ghost in Houston in 1981, I think. We went backstage to have them all sign their album. What I didn't expect was that Ruby's wide-eyed stare bored right into my soul! I have NEVER met anyone with such presence, like being smacked with a ball bat.
