  • As Black Women We must learn to Love Ourselves and the Love for our Natural Hair will follow.

  • I'm white with corse curly hair. Lol

  • Why the fuck doesn't she cut the long hair?

  • Simply put, everyone always wants something they don't have.

  • Ok... the problem isn't hair here.

The problem is how terrible kids can be to each other these days. Teachers and principals do little to nothing to fix this shit. You want to change what your daughter has? HELL NO! Make sure those kids know how awful they are to one another. That will fix the problem!

  • nappy headed hoes

  • my hair was relaxed at a very young age.. im natural now for almost 3 years :) and Im happy with my hair..

  • da lil girl wit da long hair is soo cute...but if she was my daughter i would trim it at least a lil bit

  • Sheboons are disgusting

  • @ChicomKiller you come on a video about BLACK WOMEN'S HAIR, and decide to post racist comment?! Do you feel better about yourself? Is your life any more meaningful now that you've gone out of your way to insult people that have done nothing to you? You seriously need help.

  • @ChicomKiller you're right. YOU are disgusting.

  • @ChicomKiller Well said brother. They're filth.

  • good hair=the hair of white persons

bad hair=the hair of the black monkeys

  • ignorance is bliss

  • ignorance is bliss

  • I'm white, and I used to be so jealous of the little black girls who wore their hair in twists with all the cute clips and bands, because mine was short and straight and blonde and I couldn't even put bobby pins in it without them falling out.

  • @Mimmi778 Me too! My hair is more thick and wavy, so it holds some things better, but I also used to want to be able to have those cute twists and more fluffy hair like the black girls. It just depends on what you like and consider good looking hair. There isn't "good hair" or "bad hair".

  • tyra asks the dumbest question... "you are a white mom? correct?" obviously she's white.. duh...

  • Tyra is acting as if she has the most kinkiest nappy hair out of all the black ladies their. Putting her hair in cornrows for one episode makes her more kinky-headed.

  • in a way i don't blame these moms for perming there daughter granted i would never do it personally its just the way they were brought up themselves to think nappy isn't beautiful i was that way 2 before i went natural and i tell u what once i went natural i have never been so happy with my hair and more comfortable with myself i had to reeducate myself and except me for me basically all i'm saying do what ever makes you happy whether ur permed or natural

  • I'm shaking my head at that White momma, no offense. My momma is Japanese straight up from Japan and she took the time to braid mine.

  • Kalayshia is very cute. Her hair is amazing and those kids that tease her are jealous of her hair. Im jealous of her hair! She is adorable and made me cry. I liked her mom the most.

  • so im getting this thing that relaxing is bad?

  • @bikinimad Well what relaxers do is break down the protein bonds of the hair (changing the texture from kinky/coily, to straight). This leaves the hair in a vulnerable stage where it can be damaged and break easier. Opinions vary, but relaxers can be bad if you don't take extra care of it (for ex. deep conditioning, moisturizing). Some women's hair is too fragile to handle the relaxer at all though. Hope that explains what you were looking for. :)

  • These mothers are in serious denial. Both the first mother and Shante said their daughters' hair is long. Both those little girls have short hair, which is not going to be much longer even with straightening. Shante didn't even answer Tyra's question, she was so focused on thinking her half Latin daughter's hair is long. The white mother is just plain lazy. It doesn't take that much time or effort to brush & make a braid or two. The last mother just sounds terribly ignorant all the way around.

  • RULE NO.1 never brush your hair before a relaxer

  • I'm so sick of this "good hair" "bad hair" mess, slavery seriously fucked the mind of American black people into thinking that good hair is only for biracial people or people who aren't black. I'm Black and I wear my natural hair and I mainly hear from BLACK people telling me "Get a perm, stop walking around with that SLAVE hair"...wait slave hair?. I should not be ridiculed for wearing hair that grows out of my scalp naturally.

  • @Ranzalove I'm white, and I have naturally afro-like hair... really small curls, and very dry hair.

    Slave hair? Nah.

It's beautiful, for the people that can pull it off... but I honestly can't..

  • @Ranzalove Wait...people actually told you that? That pisses me off just knowing that someone actually said that to you.

  • @Ranzalove omg same with me. My friends are all like "time for you to relax your hair" because I've recently stopped wearing braids and I tell them "Lol no" because most of them relax their hair and it's so limp and lifeless and ughh...

  • kalayshia is SO cute! made me want to cry!

  • Comment removed

  • this all relates back to being different and wanting to fit in :/

  • I would never relax my child's hair. It is stupid to relax a child's hair under the age of ten.

  • this is soooo scripted. "lower class"? what kid knows what that means at that age? jeez

  • @RubiconXing haha

  • i love Tyra! She is truly giving back to the AFRICAN AMERICAN community.

  • Good hair is hair that is well taken care of and Bad hair is hair that is not taken care of properly. It doesn't matter whether your hair is curly, straight, wavy, permed or relaxed your hair can still be good or bad hair. Sometimes relaxing your hair is only about convenience or a personal preference. And blacks are not the only ones who chemically alter their hair. Many Caucasians perm their hair to make it curly. Changing your hair does not mean what God gave you wasn't enough.

  • @childofserenity1 YOU ARE SOOOO RIGHT!

  • I don't think it's about having it conform to society's norm or having it natural

I think it's all about what you want

like me... I like my hair curly, but sometimes I just want it to be straight... or even curlier

    I even dye it!!

but it's not like I hate my hair, I just like to have it different once in a while

  • The 8 year old in me would hate me saying this, but... Mom thank you so much for taking the 15 minutes out of the day to brush through my hair and braid it and not relaxing it or getting weave in it no matter how hard I begged!!!

  • holy shit it's just hair!!

  • i was in class one day and this girl in my class that i sit next to who has flat lifless perm hair had nerve to tell me that bad hair is kinky and nappy i just wanted scream at her NATURAL HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL HAIR but we were in the middle of class so i couldnt do that

  • Relaxed or natural it's your choice but don't teach children that good hair means you need a perm smh that all comes from slavery to be honest. Maybe one day people can get over it. Even black people will look at my natural hair and look at me like I'm not human and that I can't comb my hair with a comb smh. Just because you can't except what God gave you isn't my problem. It's yours. Relaxed or natural we are all beautiful just except yourselves.

  • Me personally I had relaxed hair at the age of like 5 and it messed up my hair. My hair was soft a curly and I loved it. Give your children a choice. My kids wont get relaxed hair until they ask for it and they have to give me a good reason of why they want it. Kids are cruel but not evrywhere you go. My hair is natural know and i love it and i go to a performing arts college everyone loves it but even if they didn't it's my hair.

  • My mom relaxed my hair. But my hair was so nappy she couldn't comb through it. Don't judge these women, cause it makes everyone a little more comfortable. It's not your kid.

  • white people has very curly hair too!! asian people has very shinny and straight hair and they curly it and make it look frizzy sometimes too... so people wants what they don't have and they care to much about societies ideal image!

  • @airun8899 no black people have hair that is tightly curled at the root. asian and white people hair (whether straight or frizzy) is still considered good hair. when they say kinky and curly they are talking about tightly compacted hair like mj's afro back in the 70s

  • women who relax their child's hair as young as 8 is crazy! and as for the white mother, my mom used to keep my hair in braids/cornrows when i was little (im black and puerto rican). she wouldnt have to worry about my hair for 2 weeks! i didnt get a relaxer until i was 11 and i really didnt need one. im 17 now and havent had a relaxer in almost two years and i love my hair. idk why i got a relaxer in the first place. embrace your natural hair!

  • The girl with the extremely long hair her hair is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Don't cut it.

  • @Koolygirlhottie i love your comment, the girl with the long hair is my cousin and ever since kids started pulling hair out of her head my other cousin as been very protective over people who mess with her hair

  • @Koolygirlhottie i argee

  • Affirm them BEFORE they start school.

  • I can't stand Tyra Banks. She seems so over the top. Hating anything about yourself is a learned behavior. Parents have a responsibility to not only cloth & feed their kids, but to also AFFIRM them. That way, they won't be so gullible in environments outside of the home. If the mom has a relaxer, chances are, her child will not get the proper guidance needed to handle ignorant kids.

  • "If it wasn't good then they wouldn't make it for young kids" 7:40

oh boy does she have a lot to learn!

  • lol all of em have a ghetto name

  • My hair used to be as long as Kalayshia's when I was her age (though much more coarse in texture). If my mom had some sense like Mecca , it still would be if she hadn't put a perm in my hair when I was 5 (yes, five y.o). SMH. I'm relieved that my hair has grown back to what would be considered long and healthy hair, but the perm broke off so much of my hair it's never gotten back to it's original length. :(

Take care of those locks Kalayshia and say NO to perms. :]

  • When I went to an all-black school, I really wanted to have long, straight, and flippy hiar. Mostly it was because all of the girls in my school had straight hair. When I transitioned to a school with different races- still, mostly black kids, but some white, Asian, and Latina- I started to love my hair, and it was probably because the kids at school did. They always want to touch it and stare at it, and asked me how I got it that way.

  • Wow, I love Shante's hair. She looks beautiful!!! I feel so bad for these girls...to be teased like that. It's awful!

  • ami the only one who wants * nappy hair * ITS SO FLUFFY !

  • Everybody listen VERY CLOSELY to everything from 5:18-5:35

Doesn't this bitch contridict everything tyra's asked?!?!

  • kalayshia's mum is so fake hahahaha...kids make fun of other kids...they dont care abt long hair..pack her hair up so she can play freely...gawd and it probably smells like booboo cos of black ppl hair grease lol

    ..poor kid

  • THE FUCK! Kalayshia has THE PRETTIEST MOST *AMAZING* HAIR IVE EVER SEEN!! *AND*FOR IT TO BE NATURAL! Those kids are probaly black (dont get mad im black!) and JEALOUS that there hair is so gorgeous. Those kids should be ashamed of themselves. Putting sombody sooo young through that torture. I mean comming home wanting to cut your hair off.

    That`s really sad.

  • I think they're making those kids say that

  • I have GOOD HAIR on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday...Thats it :)

  • Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus) is not a reference. She's too ugly. I do not know how little girls can admire her as much.

  • i'm wearing my hair natural tomorrow & i dare someone to say something

  • @animeloverZBreezy - Thats how I was when I went natural. My profile pic doesn't have my new afro. But its amazing how people reacted when I went natural. Its a damn shame. I was called Coota Kentay (Spelling) and people were singing old negro spiritual songs. These are grown people 28 years old and up. Society has brain washed African Americans to believe that permed hair or straight hair is prettier than natural African hair. Sad.

  • @Manifesto2012 Wow really? Do you live in a very close-minded place? :c

  • @Kiddies001 I have no idea what the deal is. There are a few others who have natural hair at my job. But for some reason I shocked everybody into making mine a big deal.

  • I totally agree with all of this but one thing you have to remember is that some kids, like me, never wanted to get perms and such in their hair in the first place.

  • And dont get me started on that white mom, tssssskkkkk.../

  • SELF HATE IS TO MUCH MANN, and what does a freakin 6 yr old know about 'class' , in terms of a capitalist society?? its the mums' fault

  • Wow the self hate is deep

  • you have to go parading everywhere about "your pride." Get over it. Put some weave on if you have to. Look however you feel most comfortable, but for god's sakes stop talking about this stupid black pride thing. It only makes you look bad.

  • Stop with the black pride thing. Please, that just says something about yourself. Just like if a hispanic goes around talking about latino pride, or white people talking about white pride. It's just weird, who does that other than black people? Well, I guess certain people do it for their country, like saying "puerto rican pride" etc and wearing their country's flag around their neck, but you're not going to impress anyone, it just makes it seem like u have something to be ashamed of that

  • I see way too many black women who don't wear makeup, don't fix themselves up, don't do anything to their hair. How do you expect people to take you seriously then, if you dont take yourself seriously? Please there is no excuse. And of course there is good hair and bad hair, kids aren't dumb.

  • kalayshia has some GOOD. ASS. HAIR.

  • i dont get why they are crying over the kalaysia thing. its stupid. shes a beautiful girl and nothing is wrong with her hair. those kids are bullies and need a beating, theyre out of order and frickin rude

  • i have good hair since da day i was born

  • These women are so insure that they are making their children be insure. I use to perm my hair but once i had my daughter I stop perming my hair. I dont want her growing up thinking you have to perm your hair to be pretty.

  • Kalayshia is such a beautiful girl and i love her hair

  • I'm tired of all this debating over effing hair. Seriously. Just cause I'm "black" (I'm mixed btw) doesn't mean I have to wear my hair in an afro to be considered "not ashamed of my hair". I'll wear my hair however I want, and everyone else should be able to do the same. Who said I can't change my styles? People, it's your hair. No one else's. Don't let anyone brainwash you into doing anything. If you want it curly or straight, then do that. Just ignore the stupidity. :P

  • What about the white girls with extremely curly!? IT'S NOT JUST BLACK PEOPLE TYRA!!!

  • @jemXero Amen. Right now I'm relaxed but I'm seriously considering going back to natural. Either way people always have something to say just because I'm black. Mainly other black people lol. I don't give a damn anymore. Its my hair, on my head, why do you care so much what I do with?

  • Kalaysia hair is so pretty

  • let the damn girl cut her hair.

  • when kalaysia gets older, she's gunna finely accept her beautiful hair

  • kids make fun of her?? hell no her hair is BEAUTIFUL!

  • This is too sad!

  • Velchroe and Pube-like hairs are good

  • I think white people hair is too straight and you cant style it like black people hair. their hair just lies down

  • kalayshia needs to not listen to those haters, they're just jealous dumb kids

  • They are all beautiful!! But that little balck-mexican girl has hair like my Dominican family(who are black). So it's funny that she had to go out her race when her daughter in-fact has African American Hair. smh. love yourself people

  • This is pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOCIETIES IDEAL IMAGE AND WHAT YOU RAISE YOUR KIDS TO THINK IS MESSING THEM UP!!!!!!!!!! UGH WHY ON EARTH DO WE PUT OUR KIDS THROUGH THIS CRAP AND OURSELVES IN GENERAL DUDE DAMN!!!

  • Instead of 40 acres and a mule we need 40 hours of counseling! Heaven help them!

  • Ok well I'm black but I feel like I'm a different black. My hair is Long and curly and it has perfect ring curls in it I always put my hair back in a pony tail and my hair has never been nappy or kinky or anything and I don't put much product in my hair. And it's really soft to. But I really think that they are doing WAY TO MUCH to there hair

  • @312ElectroShock

They ARE putting too much product in their hair, but you have to understand; your your curls are looser, so you won't necessarily face the difficulties that they do when dealing with their hair. I've been natural for 5 months and I did my BC after 4 months of no relaxer. I believe they should let their hair grow in its natural state too, but you have to understand that this mentality became theirs from an early age...

  • It's so sad when people get picked on for these small things. It's only hair. What about personality? Why would anyone do such things to others?

  • i got bullied for having curly hair

  • Those poor little girls. They're all beautiful.

  • Wow, the girl with long hair. It's beautiful.

  • Chemically straightening a 3 year olds hair? Thats just sad in my opinion. She is so beautiful just as she is and to say anything else to her at such a young age will just pound messages of her not being good enough in her head. All of them are beautifull!

  • So sad.. I wish the mothers would make their kids see how beautiful their kids are without changing their hair styles.

  • I don't blame black women for straightening their hair. I don't have as nappy hair as they do, but I hate my hair.

  • the comment about if relaxers were unhealthy they wouldn't make them for young kids is so stupid. Come on. If cigarettes/alcohol/junk food etc. etc. were unhealthy they wouldn't make them? Please woman.

  • I'm sorry but Michelle and Dawn are stupid... Relaxing your childs hair at such a young age is just crazy!! They ruining their self esteem and the roots of their hair..

  • @limonenlight I honestly agree and at the same time disagree my mother relaxed my hair @ an early age of 5 and throught out the years my hair became natural and relaxed it raises you esteem and lowers it at times

  • @limonenlight it didn't ruin my self esteem o.o i got my first relaxer when i was 3 because i would sweat alot in the back but my hair was still long and thick up until i was 13 when i made it fall out.

  • I would LOVE My hair to be as long as that girls :O

  • For me bad hair is thin and oily. Straight or curly, hair is hair both look great.

  • The little girl honestly should cut her hair...it's so long!

  • @milkyway531 That would be like cutting off a limb. And for a black girl, that is a blessing.

  • so wen they hair fall out from using perm to get "good hair" dont trip lol

  • i remeber when i was like 8 me and my friends all liked this boy and there was a rumor of who he liked and when we found out that i wasn't in it they tried to find a reason, their reason was that when i ran my hair didn't flow with the wind and when they ran it did...since then i relaxed my hair evry day or braided but now it's just natural and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I just think women are too emotional either way... the kitchen is waiting.

  • These mothers and there kids are beautiful the way they are and hell having colour in your skin and awesome hair should be a fantastic thing.

  • This made me cry. I'm gonna have to work extra hard to make sure my daughters love their natural hair. Since I'm natural and I love my hair, it should be a little easier

  • I love how Tyra speaks her mind

  • OMG, CUT HER HAIR. THAT'S TOO DAMN LONG STR8, NAPPY, CURLY...CUT IT!

  • WHY EAVEN CARE!!?

  • Wow, smh how sad of a cycle.

  • and by the way how can you tease someone with long hair like 5.09 its frickin GORGEOUSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • @piusspecka They're jealous of her long hair because it is gorgeous.

  • This is just the opposite of me, actually. I'm a white girl from norway, you can't get any whiter than that, hah. And since i was little, i've always wanted to be.. well, african american. I'm dead serious. I've always wanted to be darker, with big, curly hair and i've always loved afros. I think it's so beautiful! My eyes are brown tho, and so is my hair, so i'm a bit different than most of the average norwegian girls. But still, 10 years later, i still want a hair like that, and a darker skin.

  • @TheMarleney You've wanted to be Black? That's crazy, yet cool. (Considering I'm Black, haha.) :3 You know there's still a way for White people to get afros? If you wanna know, just message me. Not so sure about the darker skin, though. Maybe tan a little. LOL.

  • @daziya11 Ah, i'm just so jealous about your skin tone! You know, i'm from norway like i said, and we're so white around here, haha! Of course we can tan, but it's like.. expensive. Norway is actually that country that are spending most money on tanning. And yeah, i actually knew that :) but it takes aaaa lot of time, and it doesn't last long, it's not permanent forever. Luckely i was born with brown hair though, and not blonde like most norwegian people, i just cant stand that color x)

  • @TheMarleney Hehe. :3 Thanks for the compliments! (I love them! Hahaha!) But be proud of your skin, and your brown hair! ^-^ It's beautiful. And Norway spends the most money on tanning? I had no clue. (You see, we have these people in New Jersey and California that tend to love to look like "Snooki" from Jersey Shore.) Hahaha. :)

  • LMFAO poor little girls, this show sometimes disgust me putting little kids to read scripts......... urgh

  • This self-hate makes me want to vomit.

  • It's sad what we've (society, parents, and the media) have done to our children in perpetuating this mess...

  • The reason why the kids make fun of Kalayshia for her hair simply pure JEALOUSY.

  • @rgur90x Obviously lol

  • of course there's good and bad hair. When you run your fingers through someone's hair, there's a huge difference between soft indian/caucasian hair and african.

  • Of course there is 'good' and 'bad' hair. No, I'm not saying white people have good hair and black people have bad hair. But you can look and touch someone's hair and feel if it's thick and also how it looks naturally. Of course there are products that can help, but really... some people just have hair with better quality, just like some have better skin(no acne) etc.

  • cut the kids hair at least dammm!!

  • see and im mixed i have a white mom and a black dad my mom didnt even try to learn about how to do my hair so it was always one big tangle. I would get teased at school no one would want to touch me or be near me. Now i dont even know what to do with it i have no idea what to put in it to keep it down and so it wont be frizzy. So it ends up in a pony tail most of the time but i want ti to be down and curly not frizzy

  • @calender612 Seek out a hair specialist? :)

  • @Mycenaea well i dont have the time or money lol but i will try

  • wouldnt be having these issues. Theres no such thing as "good hair" "bad hair" bad hair is just hair that is unkempted, dirty and malnurished and good hair is healthy hair :)

  • I think the reason why they make fun of that long hair girl is because their jealous and wish they had hair like she did so thats why they make fun of her because her hair is gorgous. And that one Black woman who said that she would never date a Black man because she dont want to kinky haired babies is ignorance at its finest and its shameful and the mentality of most Black people. I think if Black women were just more educated about their own hair textured and how to make it grow then we

  • She's never dated a black man?

I WOULD KILL FOR A BLACK MAN... but they never check out indian girls :( lol

  • @Niqhtmarez lol not true they do ,but that woman is def crazy lol

  • @Niqhtmarez lol :)

  • Not every black person gets weave because they want White peoples hair!! Gosh it makes us sound like we wanna be White , which ain't the case mate .. I get weave done but it's only because I want different styles and I cant style my hair coz it's short . what's wrong with that ? Kmt if I don't want short styled hair why does that automatically mean I wanna be White when I get weave ? Smh

  • I dont like afro-textured hair. But whats wrong with not liking it?

  • I relax my hair 6 months apart. I try to avoid doing it as much as possible. Only relax it to make it easier to manage.

  • If you're a person who will look down on my simply because I have my hair a certain way, you're not a person I would want to hang out with and not a person who's respect I really need anyways:3

  • Why is the girl with the long hair teased? Isn't it usually the other way around - the longer the hair the prettier? Interesting. Kids are cruel.

  • Comment removed

  • that bitch in the blue has a straight slave mentality ugly bitch.

  • Wtf the girl with long hair was teased? but all the kids said they loved long hair and short hair was the worst?

  • I'm as white as they come, and this made me cry...

  • What the hell is wrong with the heifer with braids??? She had a biracial baby so she could have better hair?!?!?!? Seriously!! I'm pregnant with a multiracial child and I hope she gets my crazy kinky curly hair.

  • @mhoward089 that's awful, maybe she was so hurt from her childhood that she wanted better for her daughter, who are you to judge.

  • The girl with the ponytails is cute tho...her hair is too!

  • This makes me sick to my mothafucking stomach. Excuse my language but it makes me sick smh. Black people are still ashamed of themselves and they're teaching em at childhood to hate themselves. smh

  • this is horrible. makes me feel so bad for these girls, they just dont understand how lucky they are to have hair like they do. :(

  • the 70s 80s 90s now the 21st century and peeps still stuck with this good hair, bad hair thing? MOVE ON!! it shouldn't matter as long as ur hair is healthy.......

  • That man AJ Johnson was right! If you have hair on your head, you have good hair!!!! Cut those split ends!

  • The little girl has gorgeous long hair, but if she likes short hair, then i think its fine if she wants it shorter. I use to have long hair as a child but I prefer short hair. cutting her hair does nothing damaging.

  • idk what's wrong with these people. i'm 22 and when i was growing up, we called each other "nappy headed". shit, there's nothing wrong with that. but we didn't think lowly of ourselves. we also didn't sit around saying we wanted "white people hair". how are you thinking about that at 5 yrs old? that don't make no damn sense.

  • @MsEcockick96 again what you said was pointless.

  • My jaw dropped when the kids pointed to the afro as "bad hair." I'm a white girl and I was like "WHAAAAAAAT?" As a white girl, I cannot grow a beautiful afro like that. Seriously, afros are one of my favorite hairstyles. They're exotically beautiful. I'm just so disgusted that people feel this way about African hair. I've never felt this way.

  • @ImaginarYxGoddesS

Thank you. My roommate just called me reverse discrimminating (even though I'm Half black half white). I have what black women and little girls like to call good hair. I was like what? They are not used to the mixed girl with the "good hair" getting mad at them for trying to me them. Also, more white people (or non-black) need to see this b/c then hopefully they will see that their hair is beautiful.

  • @MsEcockick96 they are not rocking the African texture of curl you dumbass idiot, what is wrong with you? And i didn't say it was a fact, i said it was an opinion. And obviously that opinion is widespread considering that there are topics like this out there and that so many black people perm their hair.

Texture of hair is obviously going to affect how beautiful it is.

Basically all you said was pointless shit without substance.
