As for the number of shots, it adds up to 6. 2 in the wiseguys at the table, 2 VERY fast shots into the bartender, then 2 more into him as he's leaning over the bar. " FUNNY, FUNNY, FUNNY!!!!!!"

I do believe this is the same gun he shot the cat with, though I am unsure if he shot the cat before or after this scene. At best, this was five shots, but that's granting two extremely quick succession shots before the bartender falls.
