I think the best thing would be to move everybody, and all their governments off of this doomed strip of land, and call a moratorium on settling it for like 500 years.
All this emotional appeal to mask the fact that this land he's so "attached" to is the one emptied just a few years ago by massacring millions of Palestinians out of their homeland. I'm not deceived, I see a criminal in this guy

This guy is not only an israeli, but a citizen of the world who found in israel an opportunity to make difference some way, some how, instead of clinging to political crap
This is a sweet story coming from a Jewish person living in Israel, which is the bigest agressor of the Middle East. Therefor everything he said is disbelieving at the same time. Big ups for the "policeman of the world", the US too for supporting them...
Good presentation. Not the best I've heard, nevertheless very interesting.
Why do so many people go crazy as soon as something has anything to do with Israel? I would much rather be in a German prison than be a cleaning lady in Saudi Arabia. Why don't any of these fanatics ever criticize the way millions of laborers are treated in Arab countries (especially Saudi Arabia)? Aren't they worthy of your voices? Or is it simply that the "villains" are not Jewish? This is pathetic...
@markus310773 One possible reason: Israel may not be the only country committing crimes, but they are actively playing the victim while committing crimes. This is annoying. I think it's the "annoyance factor" that gets people's goat. One of the most annoying things is simply the fact that no one can criticise the state of Israel without being accused of racism. Dishonesty like this is annoying. It's like the school bully putting on a nice vest and complaining about those mean nerds.
@Flyborg I see your point. Nevertheless we have to put things into perspective. How often have we heard of labor conditions in Saudi-Arabia for example? I believe the Israelis have to be more relaxed about criticism. Nevertheless, let us not forget how small the country is. If they loose one war... I'm German. I am convinced that many people here are happy to show the Jews: "Well see you're no better."
Just imagine comparing their situation to the holocaust!
@markus310773 They may be small, but they cause a disproportionate amount of problems relative to their size. Compare the level of criticism Israel received for bombing the shit out of Lebanon's civilian infrastructure, VS what the USA received for invading Iraq. And the USA isn't even building American settlements all over Iraq, either. If anything, Israel isn't receiving enough of a proportional response compared to their actions. Instead of criticism, the US gives them billions of dollars. :/
@Flyborg The Lebanon war started after 4 soldiers were kidnapped from Israeli soil. Israel was perceived as week when she left south Lebanon over-night. A lot of problems came up because of this. In this region being perceived as week is very dangerous as history shows. I do not believe that Israel was hardly criticised in that conflict. But why don't people mention labor conditions in Saudi-Arabia (including many deaths and rapes)?
@markus310773 Rescuing 4 soldiers doesn't justify killing around 1,000 people and completely devastating a country, turning city blocks to rubble. This isn't exactly comparable to "bad labour conditions" in Saudi Arabia. China has bad labour conditions too, and Burma is a dictatorship. But they're not allies of the US. They get criticized.. openly. Comparatively, I haven't even heard of this labour problem you're mentioning, which may be one reason why it's not often brought up.
@Flyborg Laborers have no rights in Saudi Arabia. Many Indian girls come to SA when they are 14 as "cleaning ladies" and then they are send home when they are 18. I am speaking of a national scale. Although Saudi Arabia abolished slavery officially in 1966 (!!) it still exists. Just google it. You prove my point you've never heard of it... All the world is always just fixated at Israel. One has to put everything in perspective. Good night from Germany.
@markus310773 People don't normally criticise ongoing problems. Just like you don't hear in the news everyday about deaths from malnutrition - there needs to be an event, such as a sudden famine. Israel seems to be in the news every other week for something they've done to their neighbors. If Arabia did the same, I'm sure they'd receive similar criticism. And Arabia isn't an ally of the US, nor do they receive billions of dollars for nothing, nor do they play the victim.
@Flyborg You have a point with the aid Israel is receiving. However, do you really believe that is the reason people are so fixated on Israel? How about Egypt, they nearly receive the same amount in aid, nevertheless nobody mentions it. People always look for something to support their fixation on Israel. Of course it is never about the Jews ;). Why did you have to bring up Israel on this forum? The TED-presentation had nothing to do with Israel. It just happened to take place in that country.
@markus310773 Sorry you commented on my remark. Nevertheless some people always have to bring up Israeli politics... Many people here in Europe simply like the fact that they can claim that the Israelis are no better than the Nazis. What an insult. The reason I brought up the holocaust is that 90% of the Jews would never have moved to Israel without it. Many, many countries were implicitely or explicitely involved. Just imagine all the properties people could steal.
@markus310773 (con'd) As I wrote before even the Mufti of Jerusalem (the Palestinian leader) supported the holocaust. After the war he and his thugs spread Nazi propaganda in Arab countries. Thus the Palestinian (via their leader) were also not innocent this crime... Without the holocaust their would be no Israel. The Jews would certainly have prefered to live peaceful lives in Europe. All those fanatic Israel-critics should not forget that. I definitely support appropriate critisism.
@markus310773 I didn't bring it up, someone else did. You asked why people are so quick to bash Israel, and I responded to that. Also unless I'm missing something, according to a quick google search, Egypt, which is a large poor country with over 10 times the population of israel, receives about half the aid of Israel, which is a tiny wealthy country with one of the largest armies in the world. (And Egypt isn't illegally occupying it's neighbors while slowly strangling them out of existence.)
@markus310773 [cont.] The point is that Israel does the type of things which would normally result in sanctions, and instead they get money and support, and they dismiss all criticism as secretly racist. There have been many UN motions condemning Israel's actions, and almost every single time only the US and Israel itself veto them. It is (ironically) this atmosphere of being unable to criticise Israel without dishonest dismissal which (I believe) creates extra critcism of Israel.
@Flyborg Furthermore I never read about properties were stolen from Jews when they had to leave their Arab home countries after 1948 when Israel was established? The US also did next to nothing in WW 2 to help Jews. As the Justice Apartment now admitted it cooperated on a very large scale with Nazis after the war. As a German and European I will not forget the holocaust... As I said the Palestinian leader the Mufte of Jerusalem was also a supporter. He did what he could...
@markus310773 [cont.] Yes, the US and most of the world took way too long to react in WW2. But what this has to do with the current actions of the nation of Israel, I don't know. Lots of groups (mostly Jews) died in the holocaust, but that doesn't give any country composed of those nationalities a free reign to do whatever they want without criticism. At least 200,000 Chinese civilians died brutally at the hands of Japan in WW2, but we can still criticise China.
@Flyborg Many countries have a bad record if it comes to the holocaust (including the U.S. and Britain for their passive behaviour.) Without this disaster most Jews would have stayed in Berlin, Warsaw, Vienna etc. Let us not forget that the Palestinian leader back then the Mufti of Jerusalem was an active supporter of the "final solution".
Frankly, I believe that singling out Israel is often (not always!) anti-Semitic.
Just goes to show that common sense prevails over everything, including religious nonsense.
I have nothing but respect for this gentleman and just wish I could devote some of my time to such a worthy cause but my mortgage, wife and beautiful 6 year old daughter makes me think differently,
"biblical law". I'm done. If anyone thinks there is anything that exists that is paranormal, supernaturalism, or of the occult, get you million dollar prizeon at jref. Such beliefs are all manmade. These are all man made ideas.
Awesome talk. I nearly stopped at the beginning but decided to give him a chance. I am so glad I did. Tolerance does lead to hope. Well done for you amazing journey, talk and love to this young people. I will think of you every Tuesday because I´ll know that someone outhere is doing something good for others. Thank you all the way from Spain
Good and inspirational talk.... I also have no doubt that this man has nothing but good intentions and he definitively deserves credit for his effort.
What is a bit sad though is that he, most likely unintentional, has to present some of his religious believes as being facts @13:19. That kind of religious arrogance is bound to offend some people and spoils the otherwise great talk a little bit.
That said, I wish this speaker all the best and hope he'll be able to keep doing his thing.
@JC593 Because the undertones of well intended nationalism he brings into the talk don't sit well with many people. Phrases along the lines of: "The great country ...", don't have a place in TED talks.
What's next ? A elementary school teachers's cooking recipes ? For the last year I always think TED finally hit bottom ... but I understand now .. it is a looooong way down.
What's with all the Zionism talk, the speaker is trying to promote a humanitarian message and you're stuck on the fact he lives in Israel?!? Not every Jew, or even Israeli, is a Zionist or agrees with what has been done to the Palestinians. When you start to think that you help ensure the problem will never be solved. His fondness for Biblical parallels is obviously a personal thing, his work has nothing to do with promoting the State.
@theseanze I agree, one shouldn't reduce Israel to one thing.
But one has to acknowledge that it is problematic when he puts a certain: "I love my country"-spin on his talk. I don't really agree with that, since the strong humanitarian message he brings, works as well, if not better, without patriotic undertones.
He may well be justified in holding those opinions and in loving his country, but mixing them in diminishes the overall value of the talk.
@Wollff85 -- I definitely sympathize with you, though it can be a hard line to walk (which he might not be aware of), even just to talk about how beautiful America is and the Grand Canyon, all of which is the crime scene of native genocide. Down with ignorance in general, I guess, but I think the moral of his talk can be applied to the situation because if any group has a reputation as a problem child when they really need our attention and involvement, it's Palestinians!
real interesting blind spot you got there.. but I'm sure you're quite impartial and objective about the whole thing... no bias in your implicit normalization of the oppressive subcontext of the video. nope, none at all.
Ah yes, the profound beauty of forcing thousands of people out of their homeland just because they believe in a different version of your magic sky daddy. Right, that profound beauty.
@Neylonx When you're talking of Israel, definitely. The displaced Arabs who's families have been residing in the are for centuries, however, do have a genuine claim.
@eatingperson didn't the turks conquer the christians in byzantium? why don't you comment about that? in the marine's anthem they sing about the "the shores of tripoli...." do you realize that the turks and their partners in the babary coast took over 1 million christian prisoners from 1500 to 1800 and sold them as slaves? why don't you comment about that? finally if you believe jesus is god, then didn't jesus tell moses to conquer the land and kill all the canaanites?
@eatingperson Ah yes, spreading ideas which have absolutely no relation to this movie, nor to reality, based on complete ignorance. Right, that's profound beauty.
@vas1275 Everyone everywhere is constantly devoting themselves to serving others. It's called "Capitialism;" the one system that rewards you for serving your fellow man.
@vas1275 You're absolutely right, a bit kindness, thinking about others before acting to prevent harm to one would make everything soooooo much better...
@vas1275 I agree in what way give me more ideas, I do share my knowledge and try to motivate others they is also resistance people dont like what I do
It is wonderful to see that there are optimistic people like this man who believes he can turn the desert into a beautiful garden, very much like the rest of his people who have done that for their ancestral homeland after they had returned. They, for centuries, had their land occupied and abused by the Romans and than the Arabs. This man is a perfect example of a human being who has a truly good soul. There is a lesson to be learnt here by all the belligerent and hopeless creatures.
@Jijou3 Sounds like a good idea... maybe people should go on MTB tours with each other, instead of Israelis building walls and calling their neighbors derogatory names. Try working together instead of oppressing people.
@covertcovenant Right. Stop building walls and keep allowing maniacs to blow themselves up in coffee shops and public events. Great thinking. Why aren't you PM?
@HDvideosaregood So the answer is to build more walls, take more land and leave them even poorer? Great plan. Israel has every right to defend itself but I can´t go around taking people´s stuff, run back into my house and then when people get angry, ask my big brother (USA) to defend me. The arabs have a lot to answer for but Israel is holding all the cards and is pretty rich and well-off compared to its neighbours. Why not help them out? Then they´ll stop turning to the most radical elements.
@papasitoman What land do you speak of? The land in Yehuda and Shomron has no owner. There is no officially recognized PA state, and therefore no matter who is living in that area is an occupier. Until 1967, Jordan was an occupier. The current "hot topic" neighborhoods being built up in Jerusalem are not even on the table for debate, nor were they taken from anyone, so that is moot as well. The homes being purchased in East Jerusalem are being "taken" fair and square.
@papasitoman The PA gets plenty of money from the US and Israel. The real question is, why don't these other Arab countries take them in or help out in a significant way? Lebanon Palestinian refugee camps are disgusting and inhumane and I don't hear you talking about those.
@HDvideosaregood I never mentioned it because I was taking to point everything you wrote. Why change the subject? And by the wa, I doubt anyone would say that the palestinians get ´plenty of money.´ Why do they live in refugee camps then? Why don´t they build...oh right..they can´t!! Somone won´t let them...
@papasitoman You're clearly an uneducated twit. Are you talking about Gaza? Why not do some real research, beyond what Al-Jazeera tells you about what goes on there. You know, a man once described hell as a place where there is no reason. And arguing like you is like being in hell.
@HDvideosaregood No real rebuttal. Name calling. Assumptions that I watch Al-Jazeera and get my news from it. Assumptions that I am uneducated. And of course a bad analogy to top it off. Smooth friend, smooth. At least you made me smile. Cheers.

If everyone devoted a fraction of their time for others the world would be a living paradise...

@vas1275 You'd get the same effect if everybody just minded their own business.

@vas1275 - Pretty much everyone already does. Quit with the statements that mean absolutely nothing at all.

@vas1275 Do you really think that it would be that easy?
I don't.
As the speaker so aptly points out: The world is complex.
Wollff85 1 year ago
@vas1275 Everyone everywhere is constantly devoting themselves to serving others. It's called "Capitialism;" the one system that rewards you for serving your fellow man.
steve0281 1 year ago
@vas1275 You're absolutely right, a bit kindness, thinking about others before acting to prevent harm to one would make everything soooooo much better...

Hope will never be in the Israel dictionary

Jijou3 1 year ago 4
@Jijou3 Sounds like a good idea... maybe people should go on MTB tours with each other, instead of Israelis building walls and calling their neighbors derogatory names. Try working together instead of oppressing people.
covertcovenant 1 year ago
@covertcovenant Right. Stop building walls and keep allowing maniacs to blow themselves up in coffee shops and public events. Great thinking. Why aren't you PM?
HDvideosaregood 1 year ago
@HDvideosaregood So the answer is to build more walls, take more land and leave them even poorer? Great plan. Israel has every right to defend itself but I can´t go around taking people´s stuff, run back into my house and then when people get angry, ask my big brother (USA) to defend me. The arabs have a lot to answer for but Israel is holding all the cards and is pretty rich and well-off compared to its neighbours. Why not help them out? Then they´ll stop turning to the most radical elements.
papasitoman 1 year ago
@papasitoman What land do you speak of? The land in Yehuda and Shomron has no owner. There is no officially recognized PA state, and therefore no matter who is living in that area is an occupier. Until 1967, Jordan was an occupier. The current "hot topic" neighborhoods being built up in Jerusalem are not even on the table for debate, nor were they taken from anyone, so that is moot as well. The homes being purchased in East Jerusalem are being "taken" fair and square.
HDvideosaregood 1 year ago
@papasitoman The PA gets plenty of money from the US and Israel. The real question is, why don't these other Arab countries take them in or help out in a significant way? Lebanon Palestinian refugee camps are disgusting and inhumane and I don't hear you talking about those.
HDvideosaregood 1 year ago
@HDvideosaregood I never mentioned it because I was taking to point everything you wrote. Why change the subject? And by the wa, I doubt anyone would say that the palestinians get ´plenty of money.´ Why do they live in refugee camps then? Why don´t they build...oh right..they can´t!! Somone won´t let them...
papasitoman 1 year ago
@papasitoman You're clearly an uneducated twit. Are you talking about Gaza? Why not do some real research, beyond what Al-Jazeera tells you about what goes on there. You know, a man once described hell as a place where there is no reason. And arguing like you is like being in hell.
HDvideosaregood 1 year ago
@HDvideosaregood No real rebuttal. Name calling. Assumptions that I watch Al-Jazeera and get my news from it. Assumptions that I am uneducated. And of course a bad analogy to top it off. Smooth friend, smooth. At least you made me smile. Cheers.
