Blood rushes straight from your head to your boots and makes you black out for a few seconds thus pulling a daft face because hes pulling a few times his own body weight into his Seat
Flexing your legs prevents blood from being pushed down your legs away from your head. The G suit pilots wear is designed to react on G force kind of like a sensor, it only kicks in when under G pressure.
The blood drops to your legs under those y-axis changes (correct me if i'm wrong on the axis) and when you flex a muscle it cuts off the blood supply to it. So it's an attempt to keep more blood elsewhere - conscious :P
If you don't "flex" (read "tighten the muscles in") your legs, a lot of the blood in your body will go to your legs, about the only place you don't need it at that point. If you keep the blood from flowing down you have a better chance of not blacking out
Chewing gum has absolutely nothing to do with it...brain with not enough blood...that's the culprit...if you do something like that, you gotta use the muscles in your neck and legs to prevent blood from flowing down to your feet, and you gotta pressure-breath...so stop talking bullsh*t
All fighter pilots are used to pulling the same amount of G's, every maneuver the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds perform, all fighter pilots actually use, the only difference is the demo teams do it in wingtip to wingtip formation back-to-back for show as part of their routine.
so do you become more conditioned to it as you fly more? or is it just something that some people can cope with more than others?... that looks freaky!
you can train for it. if you train to pressure-breath you won't black-out as easily. something with contracting the mussels in your neck after every breath to keep the blood from rushing out of your brain...

wait isnt that dangerous.. blacking out several times?
..btw he said "flex your legs " so that the blood could circulate and not black out.. for those who dont know already
rmz213 2 years ago
its not so blood can circulate, its so blood cant be rushed down your legs away from your head.

@beairborn6
thighten yer muscles, stop the blood flow into the legs otherweise you will black out.
flying under these conditions is fucking hard, you gotta learn it.

does the same thing happen to the pilot no right, after a while u get use to it right?
DARILyankee 2 years ago
1st turn was mean. That must have been 6-7 g's easily. With no training, even with a pressure suit he'd passed out.

Looks like a Blue Angels F/A-18, that might explain some things. ^^
These guys are used to pull some g's, even more than "usual" pilots, but not the journalist.
