  • if I remember rightly they didn't play the instruments on the original song.it was session players

  • Classic

  • F------ Classic

  • woah an amazing track then and still is now was only a child but adored this track thank you!!!

  • the legendary steve ellis , a great chart topper at the time...going back to another era now..

  • Live or not a brilliant group and song why do people have to critisize everything just enjoy the bloody song

  • @margaretanne04 Well said !!!!!

  • brilliant singer but underrated, heard his recent songs and voice still as great xx

  • hey 15 trannie bedroom. what a life and music

  • wonder wot steves doin now love his music i was in love wiv him in my youth lol long time ago now but he still looks good to me love u still steve x

  • If Steve Ellis had actually been singing live there, you would not have heard him, so think its fare to say, that I would rather hear him and watch them, oh and wish I had been there :)

  • @pete7356 "did someones fame go to his head" Steve's loyalty [blind - in this case!] stopped him taking lead vocals with The Faces when the fat-leotarded-fake started getting too big for his boots-I dont think this is a secret now!-& he was asked to replace him, but to Steve, Rod was "a mate". As for his name in front of Love Affair - apart from the fact there was no LA when EverLove was recorded, the band was built around him, this is what happens-as explained! & No-ones saying its Live! AGAIN!

  • @georgebur "cant the man sing any more"??? " Do some people talk out their backside? Yup! I can personally attest to the man singing just as well as he ever did LIVE having seen him in Nottingham last year at The RAH for Ronnie Lane Mem Concert in the mid-2000s & absolutely stealing the show at Marriotts Mem Concert 2001 the latter 2 with Paul Weller [look on youtube for the latter!] - a mate of Steve's. He also appeared LIVE with Weller in 2001. The man can sing alright!

  • Great Singer and Band and Great Sound! some people are never satisfied, this was my favorite song !

  • RIP Mum and Dad. Thinking of you both at christmas and always.....

  • Great job guys! Was one of my favorites in the day. Miss your voices!

  • Great.

  • the legend steve ellis and the legendary years of the love affair...

this video brings it right back for 3 mins . fond love and memories.

  • Anyway, it's a great number of the golden sixties. And of course, this is the 1968 version. But, anyway, great.

  • Great song.Takes me way back.Recorded this song off the radio on to a reel to reel and listened to it every night growing up.Still brings back great memories.

  • Mimed or not I love it. A true classic!!

  • Mimed or not I love it. A true classic!!

  • Steve Ellis was a phenominal chanter, this was a classic-inspiring, uplifting, upbeat and highlighted by great band, backing singers and Ellis's magnificent voice-a timeless masterpiece

  • Bloody lip synch!!! Cant the man sing any more?

  • @georgebur No one is saying that this is Live !! Thing is when a TV show wants you, they are the ones that say if you mime or not. If you say no then you don't do the show! We did several mimed TV shows, this is the finished product of one of them for all to see & enjoy. I will get around to putting more up & more of the Live gigs we did. But Please don't put us down for doing a Mimed TV show The Biggest Acts & artists in the world, All have to do Mime on TV every once in a while !!

  • @ampsnbits thanks for explaining the behind the scenes workings of tv.I'd do exactly the same to be kept in the public eye. The song is forever loved and not given the status it deserves.

  • youth relived, just great Thanks,,

  • somebody loves Emma

  • Hats off to Steve & the boys for this fun performance - everyones clearly having a good time. Just a crying shame the BBC wiped all the original footage of Love Affair's performances on TOTPs. If anyone happens to have any old footage on videotape PLEASE upload onto Youtube!

  • beatles@nettel.net.nz love the love affair need more on youtube Help

  • As I remember, the band was first just "The Love Affair" then Steve Ellis's Love Affair, then Steve went solo and never to be heard of again in the charts.Did someones fame go to his head. Why not just stay as The Love Affair they were awesome for the time,we all new Steve was the singer he didn't have to put his name before the band after a couple of hits to emphisise the fact

  • @pete7356 it depends who owns the name 'The Love Affair'. If Steve doesn't own it (the intellectual property) he can't use it or he has to adapt it so as to not infringe copyright.

  • @pete7356

  • @pete7356

If you only knew all the crap that Steve had to endure with several Bogus/Fake bands going out as "The Love Affair" that were really not very good at all! over the years. Then perhaps you would do the same? It was a joint Steve, Band and Management decision for the band to go out as Steve Ellis's Love Affair so that Audience's would know that they would be paying to see The Man, The One & Only Steve Ellis who's voice is on All of The Love Affairs hits Records of the 60's & 70's :O)

  • @ampsnbits the problems lies in the fact that most songs are known by the band.. and NOT the singer. when a band splits its the band name that takes on the song and NOT the singer. so... for a singer to be able to take the credit for a fabulous song such as everlasting love they HAVE to the avertise themselves as the singer and band!

  • @shellyann71 Hi Nice thought Butgo back in Music history circa 1969 and That the ONLY member of Love Affair to Sing/Play on the Recordings was Infact Steve Ellis. The Guitarist's were Big Jim Sulivan, Jimi Page, Bass Player was Herbie Flowers and the Drummer was Clem Cattini all session Players of the day. Tried to add some links but You Tube don't allow it. Just Google the names and see for yourself So don'y you think In fairness to Sreve Ellis HE IS The the Voice of Everlasting Love

  • @ampsnbits i agree, but what i meant was not everyone would know the name of the singer so would only associate the song with the band name . for steve to fairly get the recognition he deserves for this song he has to have the band name after his or a lot of people wont know its him.

  • I bought the original in the 60s,love steve's music but this is lipsinc,Steves note perfect to the original ,I only know one man who can do that a Mr John Fogerty, and the band dont play a finish the song just cuts.also where's the brass section thats so prominent in the song.Come on fess up,its great to watch but your miming.

  • @pete7356 No one is saying that this is Live !!

  • cheeekeeboy - at least Melvyn has done things in his life...what has been your contribution to the world? Bet you were distraught when the Cheeky Girls called it a day...or is your first name Lembit :P

  • A fantastic song and so what if it's mimed - these musicians have more talent in their finger nails than lady gaga has in her/his/it's being!

  • blackpearl186 My all time favorite record. Saw the group at Top Rank in Preston all those years ago. Played and played single on record player till my mum screamed and screamed at me to "chabge the record"!! Great Memories

  • blackpearl186 My all time favorite record. Saw the group at Top Rank in Preston all those years ago. Played and played single on record player till my mum screamed and screamed at me to "chabge the record"!! Great Memories

  • reminds me of the 60's, the trannie in the bedroom and a fantastic song. Still love it.

  • A very powerful song, which will always stand the test of time.., always gives me "goosebumps"

  • Have a look at Robert Knight .... KTF

  • check out the drummer.he looks like british comedian alistair mcgowan wearing a very dodgy wig!!

  • LIP SINK!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow !! you dont say ! well it was a Live Mime TV Show and it is rather obvious with No Backline Doh!!! . It does make sense when there were over 30 acts on the show, it would have taken a week to sound check & change equipment between all the acts . name me an act that has Never Ever Mimed On TV ??? Wake up to the real world !!

  • Comment removed

  • Only on Backing Vocals! , Oh Yeah I was Mimeing on Guitar as well, so was Dave On Bass and Robbie the Drummer but poor old Yinka on Keyboards He couldn't play a note and was just a mate we brought along for the ride as our regular Keyboard player couldn't make it but hey what the hell we got paid for mimeing infront of Millions on TV many a time and got paid for playing infront of Thousands Live many many times So what have you done? fart and set fire to your Bum on Youtube ?

  • I love the Germans they have great tase in British music. Pity they like to clap along like at a rally or something.

  • Left my job 2 years back at a well known TV broadcaster, and the radio side played this superb peice of music for me, later they asked, why that particular track,? and I said simply (because I love it )

  • I LOVE this song!......it was MASSIVE in the UK....BUT did you know that their was a FULL backing orchestra playing behind the Love Affair every time they performed.....the group claimed it was just them playing until the truth was discovered...then they came clean.....but WHO CARES!....I love the song anyway.

  • This is the best song ever IMO. A UK number-one 41 years ago and still sounds as great as ever today.

Lots of great covers of this song too (plus the 1967 original by Robert Knight was also brilliant), but to my mind Love Affair's will always be the best version.

Shame it's evidently mimed here though.

  • fantastic

  • i remember when he had accident i was 18 at the time and he use to live next door to my uncle in mile oak

  • Yep! I visited Steve EVERY single day of the months that he was in Southlands Hospital. That was a travesty as we had been rehearsing a new band The Flyboys, re-named The Steve Ellis Band. With all New Original material & were about ready to gig. • He is lucky to be here at all. In 1979 he left the music industry and went to work in a dockyard. In 1980 he had an accident involving a forklift truck`s blades on the dockyard and it broke and smashed both of his feet in half . He was in and out of hospitals for years and didnt walk again until 8 years later in 1988.

  • Did you know that the only person who actually performed on this single that hit the charts was Steve Ellis. The group admitted they had not played on the record, but that all the work was done by session musicians. Their first recording of the song had featured them playing all the instruments. But the record label rejected this version, in favour of one with a recording studio rhythm section, strings, brass, flutes and backing vocalists, Steve Ellis the only one to be heard on the released single.

  • Janclearwater....yes i remember exactly what your post refers to, there was an outcry in the press about it. On reflection i think the record label was right.

  • great to hear this again first record

    i ever bought fantastic

  • always makes me happy when I play this!

  • Love it!

    It always made my day:)

  • Everlasting song that stands the test of time and brings on back the good times in the 1960's.

  • fantastic

  • who cares if it is out of sinc .....still the best song ever made ......

  • fantastic song --always was...i love you Amer

  • My sister had a big crush on Steve Ellis, it was so annoying.

  • Ok we know this is a mimed (lip-synched) performance in Germany, but a couple of questions for anyone who can solve a 40 year mystery. How were the Love Affair not huge? - and even if they were one of those bands who recorded with session musicians, the singer (Steve Ellis?) should have been huge in his own right. Who wrote the songs as their other songs are damn fine records too.

  • fantastic 5*****

  • This is the best song EVER made ..... wish we could have more of this now instead of all the rubbish that is in the charts these days !!!

  • This song is da classic!

  • Great voice, good guy - deserves his success - thanks for posting

  • The Love Affair released that song in 1968.

  • Steve Ellis was one of the great voices to come out of the late 60s and this excellent video clip captures the excitement of Steve's performance. Dead chuffed to have Steve in concert with New Amen Corner at Amersham on Saturday, June 7.

  • Superb song - Great memories from a better time! - Thanks for posting..

  • I remember seeing Steve Ellis in concert in Battersea Town Hall in the late 60s. He was drunk but i didn't care as I was nine years old and he kissed my hand! He was my first crush! Jenny Bell

  • I was crazy about this guy when I was 13 he was only 17 at tht time. I think I have the Love Affairs first album somewhere; What about the Herd do you remember them - Peter Frampton was the leader and the face of 1968!

  • Session players cut the original in the studio. How do I know? I knew the bass player.

  • Really So then you must Know Herbie Flowers? The bass player on this session. Then perhaps you can tell me who the Two Guitar players were & the Drummer??? I'm ampsnbits, Mel Guitarist with Steve for many years & in these Vids

  • You know its been so long I forgot his name but He was with Johnny Kidd & the Pirates.I remember he told me he came up with that bass line.I dont know any other musician on that sesion.

  • The drummers name is Robbie Ghyll. He lives in Ireland now. He only plays for fun these days. I'll ask him who everyone else is and get back to ya.

  • Pop music at its very best.

  • This is what pop music is all about, catchy, emotional and the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. I managed to see these guys live at a small night club in Batley, back in the 80's, great times!
