i have a pet budgie his name is Rio he looks just like Rudy except his zebra pattern reaches his forehead (ps that's my name ^_^ thx for naming him after me lol) i bought him a girlfriend named Tweety that looks just like Simon except she has some black dots on her left wing and a light green stomach they still bite a lot but tweety is stronger (only had them for a day)
well how cute is he?!!! Gotta love a bird like that, looks like he is still a baby? I have two and they still havne't warmed up to me quite yet, they'll sit on my shoulder and are increasingly curious by day, but become bored very quickly, or just do not feel completely safe outside of the cage. Gotta love them though!
Just make sure you spend at least a half an hour with him each day more if you can before and after work. And on days when he has to be home by himself, I leave the radio on for him.
He was hand-reared so he loves people, and he was only about 7 or 8 weeks old when I got him. The place I got him at isn't there anymore. If you get one young enough you can tame it down even if you get it from Petco.
oh well.. at petco where i live they catch thier birds with nets.. so i think when they gave me mine it was scared to death... and it was a baby when i got mine lol. besides.. im probably going to get a girl soon for him.. do you know how to introduce diff. ages of birds wo arent from the same mom?
First, when you bring home the new one, you keep it in a different cage in a different room from the old one for a month and wash your hands after handling each before handling the other. This is to make sure the new one isn't sick and can't make the old one sick. Also this is to give you one-on-one time with the new one. Then you introduce them in neutral territory. And, if they don't get along, you put their cages next to each other until they are friends enough to share one big cage.
oh.. is it okay to just put the cages next to eachother i nthe sam room because i cant really put them in seperate rooms... and i have a big cage right now and a smaller cage.. but i was hoping just to let them meet for a week and then if they seem okay nextto eachother.. put them in same cage.. would that work? this is like my second bird i ever had and im not to experienced.. lol
The separate room thing is because a lot of their diseases are airborne and they hide them until they are really sick. Trust me, you don't want to cheat when it comes to quarantine, because avian vet bills add up really quickly. Also, if your living space has more than one room, you can separate the birds for a month. If they have to be in the same room, they have to be at least 15 ft away from each other so basically opposite ends of the room for the first month.
ooh ok thas for your advice :) today i had petco order a pink and white clouded parakeet. i was wondering..im not sure if my bird is a boy or girl the thing above it beak is like blue but it also as a litte pinkish color.. like a purply color.. is that a boy?
All baby budgies have pinkish ceres, most adult males have bright blue, and all adult females in condition will have brown/tan ceres. Out-of-Condition females sometimes have white, and males of certain mutations keep the baby pink/lavender. My solid yellow Simon had a pinkish purple cere, and Rudy's is blue. If anything, you can watch their behavior. Males chatter and sing more than females.
ooh.. i think mine is a boy hopefully cuz the one i ordered today is going to be a girl.. and my mom say she want it to be a boy and girl not boy and boy or girl and girl..
