While I focus on DC, I also get Amazing Spider-Man, and will be getting the new Avenging Spider-Man. If Marvel had some kind of reboot, I don't think this would change. I just cant afford to be getting so many issues, let alone fortnightly issues as opposed to monthly with DC. But if Marvel made new Runaways run, I'd be buying that straight away.
how about you're thought on the next Batman movie franchise?
i can't wait for the next movie to be over with so we can have a fresh take on Batman!!! hopefully one less (boring) in mean... less grounded in uber-reality!!!
i'd hope the next set of films would be more like the video games Batman Arkham Asylum & Arkham City!!!
@benscomics Well, if you want to catch up with X-Men right now, I would start with House of M. Then go on from there.
If you want to read what I think was the best X-Men run in the past 20 years, check out Grant Morrison New X-Men run. It's in three volumes and WELL worth the price.
Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run was also very good. It picks up from Morrison and is in two volumes.
@archer1949 Im planning on beginning with morrisons new x men, then astonishing x-men, and also reading the messiah war, but after I read house of M what should I read. or what are the best ones after house of M? thanks, it really helps
@vorido Batman is a very gritty character, street based and some of the best Batman stories are more character driven rather than action oriented. He'd fit in very well with the ground level Marvel characters. I could see a Batman/Cap America dynamic similar to the one with Supes except there'd be a bit more tension since Cap wouldn't approve of some of Batman's more unsavory methods of getting things done but they'd respect each other i'm sure.
No reboot needed but...provide good jump on points and release a timeline, id love to jump onto deadpool, wolverine, and xmen in general but don't know where to start. And I guess possibly Black Panther
I was reading an interview can't remember for the life of me if it was with Didio or someone else but it was stated the characters that are "missing" did not just disappear they are just benched at the moment. They may be bringing them all back soon enough but for now they wanted to focus on their launch titles. But yeah they are there just playing bench warmers.
Marvel has done reboots in the past. Secret Wars, Age of Apocalypse, Heroes Reborn, Break Through (when they purchased Malibu Comics) Avengers Disassembled, House of M, Spiderman: One More Day, and even Xmen: Schism were all designed to relaunch their titles, but they were not done on the scale of the new 52.
@benscomics For the more contemporary Xmen, start with Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly's new Xmen. Then read Joss Whedon's Astonishing Xmen. All of the stories are in Trade Paperback form. After that, there was House of M, and The Messiah Complex. I stopped following the Xmen around that time, however, if you go to wikipedia, they have a comprehensive list of all of the major storylines.
I won't be surprised if Marvel does relauch as they have been ripping off DC sucess recently, this includes Rebirth with Reborn, Blackest Night with Necohara, Earth One with the upcoming Season One. But only time will tell.
If Marvel did do a relaunch thing i would probably only pick up spider-man. I've only ever read a few marvel comics but I really like the movies and cartoons.
As to the question in the video I'd say overall, no but I do think X-Men needs a HARD reboot. I like the concept and all but my goodness it's so impossible to get into! I tried reading one of the X-Books a year ago and it hurt my brain. It was that confusing to me.
I also think Hulk needs the slate clean as well. Jeph Loeb kinda killed the character IMO.
I take exception with you on Spidey. Dan Slott has done a TREMENDOUS job with Spidey and i'm loving the Spider-Island event. Now if we're talking about the JMS run and the BND time fame i'd agree.
Captain America is DEFINITELY the most DC out of Marvel heroes as you said. The main difference as someone else mentioned Marvel is "people with super powers" rather than super powered beings in DC. BTW Batman would work well in Marvel.
i agree with you about the DC characters i like them better, but i do really like the Xmen i think the main different between Marvel and DC is for the most part DC has super hero and marvel has people with super power. and i am not saying that one is better then the other
I don't really think Marvel has better teams in general, but that they are more consistent in good quality. A lot of DC's teams have inevitably gone down the toilet.
That's way too many, especially as a lot of them lack individuality.
In short, no. Rant over.
(This is coming from a new reader who's just got back into comics in the last two months, which is in part due to DC, so maybe I should change my answer lol)
No, the DC relaunch what pretty half arsed, more a renumbering thant a reboot, which Marvel already does, bunch of recently renumbered titles like.............
Daredevil/ Punisher/ Moon Knight/ Incredible Hulk/ Ultimates/ Ultimate Spiderman/ Ultimate X-Men/ Uncanny X-Men/ Uncanny X-Force/ Wolverine and the X-Men/ Thor/ War Machine (Iron Man 2.0)/ X-23
While I focus on DC, I also get Amazing Spider-Man, and will be getting the new Avenging Spider-Man. If Marvel had some kind of reboot, I don't think this would change. Marvel should make an imprint for the film universe

Spider Man kicks ass right now.
All it takes is a good writer, like Dan Slott.
X-Men could use a good cleaning house. The continuity is giving me a headache.
archer1949 4 months ago
@archer1949 But everything else seems to be stable right now. I wouldn't mess with it.
Invincible Iron Man is also a REALLY good title right now. But you would probably need to pick up the trades to get what's going on.

@archer1949 do you have any recommendations on x men trades to begin with or some good ones?

Messiah Complex and Messiah War ARE direct continuations from the events in House of M.
After that came the big X-Men Second Coming and Generation Hope storylines
That's as far as I got as of now. I am constantly about a year behind due to the fact that I only read X-books in collections, not individual issues.

For the stuff that isn't getting renumbered has .1s, and Marvel's history/continuity is no where near as messed up and convoluted as DC's.
They just need to market it better, take this month for example, you've got
Incredible Hulk #1/ Wolverine and the X-Men #1/ Avenging Spiderman/ Uncanny X-men #1
Don't know why they aren't pushing it harder as the 'Big Four' or something, sure it would attract a lot of potential readers like yourself
The problem is there's too many titles, 8 X-Men books...
