  • As usuall I always learn something new from listening to your analysis. Thanks Shawn!!

  • This now brings it ALL together. Seeing you from the back seals it for me. Its Bobby Jones for sure. Here it is: You toss the club up, weight for a split second goes to the right side(assumes u r a Righty) and for that brief split second is suspended, then you plant (fall) down forward and then with the hip turn it forces your arms front and down (and then you can add more force if you want). Seeing you from the front this is all missed - but from the back, it shows us everything. Shawn - Txs!

  • Hi Shawn, Great videos you have help me more then you can imagine, just returned to golf after 20 years, just wondering which program you are using to demonstrate this video clip

    Thanks Dennis

  • shawn..you left heel comes pretty far off the ground...ala a younger jack nicklaus in other videos you advocate rolling the heels...i am confused on what the feet should be doing, especially the left heel...

  • @tshoey22 Just have a look at my "golf pro lesson leg and footwork" video; Shawn

  • How do you not shift a little in the backswing? I find it easier to shift weight on my back foot to get the swing going.

  • @molsondrive1970 I do shift lots of weight into the backswing; however, I DO NOT SHIFT MY CENTER TO THE RIGHT IN THE BACKSWING AS THIS WOULD BE AN OUT OF BALANCE CONDITION! There would be a tremendous loss of leverage if that were to happen so do not confuse weight shift with slide of center. Shawn

  • Hi Shawn, love your videos. There are soooo many!

    Do you happen to have a list, order or table of contents that you recommend you videos that you have uploaded should be viewed? Should I do it by date uploaded? Just want to take it all in sequence. Thanks for your contributions!!!!

  • @juicyfruitzy You are welcome; the best is to get your hands on my new 5 disc dvd series which gets you all the important info in priority sequence with 2 broadcast quality cameras to boot! See the trailers on my website listed in the description box of al my videos; Shawn

  • Shawn, I've a superficial understanding of what "inertia" means in physics which has multiple meanings. At what stage of the golf swing does "inertia" apply? Thanks.

  • @451mnu Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to a change in its state of motion and in the golf swing, this is the imaginary center of the body that your mass is turning around; the best way to keep something still is to allow everything to turn around it; so this is why it is so important to ALLOW the rib-cage and pelvis to turn freely on top of the hips to let the arm-club unit swing freely. See "golf pro lesson how to coordinate arm motion with body turn"

  • 2nd issue. you did mention that at the top of the swing, you should feel your shots are going right... I am not feeling this at all...my butts are facing the target, my butt point at the target.....so do you feel anything wrong here? SO HOw can I feel it?

  • @plopp1231 Best video to explain this and for you to experience this are the following: "Golf pro lesson tilted spiral part 3 and "golf pro lesson how to work the ball" part 1 and 2; Shawn

  • Hi shawn , you latest youtube video is great.... I got 2 issues here.. 1) when approaching my finish position, as my hands past the shoulder height, my spine pushes foward towards the target and still feel stack...but from this video its obvious that your spine(or lower body) reach the finish position first then follow by the upper body...Hope you can visualize it.... Do you smell any thing wrong?

  • Hi Shawn, still working on the excersises you wrote down for me when I visited you. Reviewing my swing on video, I cant seem to get past throwing the club at the ball. My lag is good right up until the ball. I have seen your related videos(through the ball, etc.) and have your DVD. What drill would be best to help me get the sensation of whipping through that ball.

  • @mstudent321 I have so many on this lately; lots of breakthroughs going on at our learning center! The best is to see the last 15 videos on my clemshaw home page;

    Shawn

  • Hey Shawn, thank you for all you've done for us! The DVD has been the best $ I've spent on golf, and your free videos are truly a gift. I put the dry erase markers to the test today and I see that I'm crossing the line at the top and also losing my spine angle a little at impact, (my butt moves off the line). I seem to be on plane until just before impact and then my hands get high and I stand a bit. Not far off, but I want to get it right! What would you recommend I work on?

  • Good question!

    1- Master the Feet together drill

    2-Master the ball below feet and the uphill shots they are in the "Golf Pro Lesson On the Slopes" video as well as the "Leverage power" video;

    Shawn

  • shawn, what would you change in your swing? is there anything your not happy with in your swing?

  • Hey Jordan! I am always working on something; this is the fun of it! I did come a tad too much to the inside in the takeaway on this one and this is why you see me a bit across the line at the top; but generally I am always happy with my ball striking on course for the 12 to 20 games I play each year; the key is to achieve the results in the swing without thinking...:) Thanks for the question! Shawn

  • I seem to take small divots or often none at all. I can't see in the video so I'm asking, is your forward leg perfectly straight at impact? Also, is your back foot fully flat on the ground at impact? I find myself unable to easily squat when the club drops to start the downswing for fear that my front leg won't be straight at impact, so I seem to straighten that front leg early on in the downswing. Please help me to get my mental process back on track. Thanx for all you do to help us!

  • Hey Bogeyman!

    No, the front leg is not straight at impact nor is it at the finish and the right foot is slightly rolled inward towards the target through impact too; Go to my website and check out the You Tube Shawn page and watch the following:

    "Contact and spin", "Feet together" "One leg Drill", "Finish Position", "Pronation Supination", "Hogan Power Drill", "Hogan Power Move" "Through Ball" (the 2 ball hit)"On the slopes" (the downhill part)

    Shawn

  • heres another thing to notice in DTL analysis. the angle of the shoulders through the hit. after the hit, and the shoulders get to 90* they should be pointing pretty much at the ball. also, the across the line is due to a bent left wrist at the to. flatten it and it'll fall right on line. just my own 2 pence

  • Not really on both counts...sorry Jordan!:)

    My takeaway was just a little inside and this is what caused me to come slightly across the top (A little nip and tuck with the position of the right elbow would seal the deal...doing it with the flat left wrist would be artificially done with manipulation...Check the don't keep the head down vids for the shoulder movement...Shawn

    The Comment was worth more than 2 pence though!

  • ok shawn, try this. find a good tour player, someone like paul casey or someone with a 'standard' swing. from DTL, get them to the top, and draw a line from the ball through the front of the right shoulder. then as they go down, see how the right shoulder goes down that plane, and as they get past impact both their shoulders will line up on that plane. try it, c wat u think

  • I have a few on my C-swing; I know what you are saying; but my gig is what would you teach the PGA pros? They want to get better too! I know exactly what I would teach Tiger, Ernie and many others...Shawn

  • cool! love to hear that

  • hi shawn, i had a question : what does "mementum" means ? sometimes you say that word (i am french) but i'm not sure of the meanings... que veux dire mementum or momentum ?

  • La Masse des bras, epaules, club, fois la vitesse egale le "Momentum"...je ne me souviens pas du terme Francais; Mais on cherche avoir un "Aire D'aller" avec beaucoup d'aise et beaucoup de puissance;

    Est ce que cela repond?

  • Wow!

  • Shawn...could swing the club without lifting your left heel off the ground and moving the left knee in?.

    Just looking at this back angle, it looks rather weird. I don't see many tour players do this but I could be wrong.

  • Yes; you could roll the left heel but I have found it even easier to get the power this way; both right and left. As far as the look, have a gander at Bobby Jones from behind and you will see the very same body language; Ben Hogan as well! Shawn

  • any current players that do it?

  • Yes; Zack Johnson is one of them...

  • the left heel barely if at all comes off the ground.

    watch?v=ErtJhNNYxcY

  • I know; but I am talking about the centered part of his swing; now that I have a minute, here is the best description: Take the Stack and tilt method, add the left heel coming up like Vijay and Stuart Appleby, add more hip turn in the backswing like Bobby Jones and Jack Nicklaus and you get what I am doing...Taking the best nuggets out of all of them and applying them properly...If you look at Jack's swing you will see the same body language as well...

  • stack n' tilt..? can you please elaborate on that..? shawn.. does that mean you are keeping most your weight on the left foot..?? don't keep us in the dark.. lol.. you got the best explanation when it comes to golf.. tell us more.. please.. thanks..

  • The last thing I want is to keep you in the dark; I will get another video out to explain this one; Shawn

  • Dear Shawn,

    What can I say another great video, I wanted to ask you that at address, before you take your club back , you move your chin or the head slightly behind the ball and slightly move your wrist forward towards the target, is that a habit that you have or does it create something before your swing.

  • In the second half of the "Golf Pro Lesson Takeaway" Video, I talk about how to start the swing and the importance of "already being in motion" before the club goes back; this is my way of doing it; Shawn

  • hello

  • Great work, as usual ! I wanted to know if these advices were still the good ones whatever is our "school of teaching" (arms swing vs body swing...) ? Anyway, thanks a lot Shawn, you're the best online teacher for sure !

  • Shawn, nice vid.

    I'm confused about the weight shift. My understanding is that it shluld be 50/50 at start and when the backswing is complete. However your left heel is off the floor at the top ?

  • What a great observation and I have a great explanation for that; can't do it in this short version though; I will be happy to get a video out for you next week as I know others will want to have the answer to this one; see if you can figure it out until then! Talk soon, Shawn

  • let me have a try :)

    in the 'hockey golf' video, where Shawn and Steve was demonstrating the 'true' top of the backswing, which is when the left foot is planted. At that point, the weight distribution is 50/50.

  • Yes; that is the idea! But a bit more like 60% to 70% on left side; so that the downswing is like the one leg drill video;

    Thanks Dozu! Shawn

  • Very helpful!!!
