First of all, the music's all wrong. In the '50s, it would have been a"hot" trumpet & drums. Regular clothing--and morals--were so modest, that it was shocking to see women dancing around in their underwear. Laughable dancing style, but she IS demonstrating how flexible she is; I daresay most women today still couldn't do the contortions she did here. The zebra & black frou-frou show she's wild, but feminine. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
i dont know...about the music i think its gives the video a different tone...but i do know what you mean about the jazzy music. i think this makes it cute
what a great answer to the "yoga snobs!" this lady must have put in some serious practice. what a great mix the song WAS made for this! "maybe all the way to india- i'd like that!" LMAOROTF
She isn't?! Oh thank god... I could have sworn I saw her obituary not too long ago. I thought they made the movie about her in '06 because she died. I hope she writes a memoir. That's a relief. More years with the bondage queen.
No, it's because they actually ate food and weren't swayed by media that repeatedly told them they had to be a certain way (skinny) to be beautiful. I love Bettie's full hips.
it was considered sexy at the time because men didn't have exposure to women in the way except through these types of movies and pictures or shows etc. We may not see it as sexy now, but if this was as much of a woman as you got to see, (generally) you might think differently. Anyway. That song was annoying.
I just want to clarify and correct my previous mistake, the musician's name is Dan Bern, not Byrne. Go and buy his stuff, or at least have an easier time downloading it! He has a site at Dan Bern dot Com.
Yes, I'm afraid you fell for my brilliant marketing bullshit. Of all my videos, this one has the most views ever, thanks to my clever use of the words "tits" and "Bettie Page" in the title, never mind the three months I worked on "The Magic Show"... Actually I just wanted to share the song by Dan Byrne, and the first time I saw the weird un-sexy contortionist dance, my head exploded. Glad you liked both!
Yes, but is it sexy? This is like a burlesque routine from "Airplane!" or something, starting off okay but a little weird, but spiraling into ridiculous over-the-top jumping and bending around. Not exactly "Showgirls." To be fair, she's billed as a contortionist but in this context it's just weird... Love it though!
Hah, no I suppose you are correct. It is silly to compare someone else, someone who has undoubtedly practiced a great deal, to myself, who is a bit of a web-potato. I simply meant to say that it was an impressive feat of skill. I would indeed find a world where we are all the same terrifying in a borg-children of the corn kind of way.
I love the '50s stuff so much. Lol it's so classy and crazy at the same time.
Twinnie is so cute! I wonder what ever happened to her?

Anyone else noticed how women´s hips back then looked so different from today?.I´m not talking about weight or anything like that.
lofi73 3 years ago
I know. I think its because of how they wore their clothes.

Bettie Page is a greater dancer. here we can even found some hip-hop dance moves !
it's a pity that's the music is not the original even if it's nice with the image.
that's just my opinion...

Look back at these days when women were real.
This anorexic standard is fucked up. They look prepubescent. I loves me curves.
I mean this isn't even slutty, but cute and expressive and fun.
Bettie Page rules. RIP

That was my great aunt Twinnie! Where did you find this video?

Are you as flexible as she was? If so you should make a video! Try the film "Teaserama"...

skatemonk, this is the most impressive music set to video thing I've seen on youtube.
I gotta say that move twinnie pulls in the end is most fucked-up indeed. Also i'm downloading Dan Byrne til the cows come home.

Pretty impressive considering she was in high heels.. I cant land if I were to wear one..

The title says that this is "featuring Bettie Page" but it barely is and that's misleading...
but if it had not have said "featuring Bettie Page", I wouldn't have watched it...
and I would have missed out on an amazing video.
This contortionist/burlesque-dancer/ostrich is magnificent!
Also, the folk song is both poignant and catchy... a combo that I'm sure will have me singing this doo-dad all week!
Awesome!
I'm subscribed...

This is actually some pretty impressive gymnastics, I saw a backwards handstand and a one handed cartwheel. Damned if I could do that myself...

Dear Ae.,
Do you think it appropriate to compare the feats of others with ones own ability?
.
Does doing so construct a universe where all folk would be exactly the same - is this a version of eugenics?
.
Just wondering.
Cheers.

del-boy.
