  • hey .. new video at 'the1959burst' ! ! !

  • Eric Clapton's Beano Les Paul was a '60 Burst, not a '59 - nice 'documentary.'

  • whats the title of the documentary

  • It makes me sick hearing people talk about guitars like they're some kind of currency...

  • Comment removed

  • Max Baranet is the guy that build the 59 replica slash record AFD right? is he still making replicas??

  • Max is retired these days. His former co-conspirator, and an all around good guy, Roman Rist (not to be confused with Ed Roman) still makes guitars, but not '59 copies'.

  • unlike slash, i don't think dave navarro has ever influenced a gen y guitar player to pick up a les paul. sure, he may have played one in the 80's, but that doesn't really carry a lot significance in the popularity of the les paul today.

  • my uncle has a 59 sunbust max gutiar fucking insane

  • this film just won 'best documentary of 2008' at the Phoenix Music Awards .. hope to release it next year for the 50th anniversary of the '59 Burst ..

  • Slash, the only one using them in his generation (the 80's)? Nah. I can think of many. Randy, Tom Keiffer, Mark Kendal, Mick Mars, Ace, Michael Wilton, Adrian Smith, Frank Hannon, Billy Duffy, Traci Guns, Zakk, Jeff Watson, John Sykes, Steve Clark, Joe and Brad, Bullet Boys, .... lots more. So, no, even though you are great, you weren't the only one using LP's in the 80's.

  • dude slash was the only 1 using it as his main guitar through the 80s! cmon i mean guys like adrian smith and mick mars were know for using fenders and ace frehley was from the 70s. and btw zakk was kinda of 90s and not 80s so much.

  • Dave Navarro in Jane's Addiction in 1985-1988 was using a Les Paul, and they were all over the club scene then. Dave's the one who made it cool to play a LP again on the LA scene, not Slash.

  • not really, and the one navvaro used wasnt a 59' sunburst. slash used it much more consistantly. and also he had one in every video they shot and at every gig. the other guys used an array of guitars. he used les pauls excusivly througought the mid-late 80's. he uses them for 75% of the stuff he plays by this day. thats why he is so well recognised and matched with the les paul.

  • That's funny, I thought Slash didn't have a 59 burst in the 80s, certainly not on AFD. I thought he used that 87 3 piece gibby. So I assumed he meant he was the first one to go back to the LP. Are you saying he had a 1959 Burst back then????? Yeah, I know Dave used an LP Custom. I meant he started using the LP again before slash. However if slash had old wood then, I stand corrected. But I don't think that's the case.

  • I looked it up. He used a LP copy built by Chris Derring. And Slash's quote was "I didnt fuckin reintroduce the Les Paul, says Slash. Its been around. I just dont think that anybody who was really popular and touring worldwide was using Les Pauls around the time Guns came out.... Sorry Slash, not true. Dave Navarro was there already. ;-)

  • u didnt have to look it up cause knew what his les paul was. however that model was based on a 59' les paul. and slash's quote stands because janes addiction werent that big yet when they came out. guns made it much sooner in contrast to JA. and even even if dave did paly it sometimes in the clubs he wasnt the one who gave rebirth to the les paul. several guitarists say they use the les paul cause f slash, one of them being billy from the cult who switched to one after seeing slash play it

  • Dude no offense was meant. I just thought Slash's quote was aimed at the LA music scene, and new music, not the world music scene. Peace.

  • well i think at the time the la music scene was one of the biggest scenes so slash's quote was aimed at a big music scene in general. anyhow lets say that a select few were playin f les pauls at the time but slash;s influence was the biggest.

  • Paul McCartney's burst was a 1960 lefty, not a '59.

  • I've owned four '58 reissue Gibson Les Pauls. Fantastic guitars. But at $3500.00 a pop I was afraid to play them! LOL! I can just imagine if I ever owned a REAL '58. So now I have a 2006 Standard and I beat the shit out of it...and it comes back for more! Check out my video "My guitars" and you'll see some of them.

  • WRONG !!! It was a 'Burny' I know cause I sold it to him.

  • He didn't use an epiphone.... but he didn't use a Gibson either ;)

  • Oh My God.

I Found A LesPaul In My Grandads Atic!

    x

  • @MateyGray

    Pics or it didnt happen!

  • This bubble's gonna burst (no pun intended).

  • hahah that not the real slash.. because slash had another hat and a nosepiercing.. so ther are f****d up

  • are you fucked he has like a million top hats and nose rings don't stay in you forever you can take them out and you obviously don't know what slash looks like then

  • Why the fuck would they ask the opinion of Les Paul, Billy Gibbons, Rick Nielson and a 'Slash Lookalike'?

  • the 'Slash lookalike' was cheaper

  • Ha ha - I bet - and all those bursts were Tokai's right? ;)

P.S. I've played one of the bursts in this trailer, it plays like butter and sounds amazing.

  • Gibson. Over-rated. Over-priced. Everyone ought to own one!

  • Yeah, everyone go out and buy a Squire Affinity strat. Plywood rocks, LOL!

  • @woogiehead. over-rated, no. over-priced, a bit. Everyone ought to own one, HELL YEAH!!!

  • @woogiehead There only over priced to people who want one, but can’t afford one. They are cheap for those who can.

  • 275$ at the time... golden balls for Gibson these fuckers makes us work like slaves to own one of these beauties...

  • The 59 les paul has a way to go to catch what the Hammer Stradivarius violin brought @ auction ($3.5M)

  • man, i'm dying to see this film, when's it comin out?

  • joe perryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

i have a joe perry boneyard les paul but a love a 59

  • ahhhhh, this is how we met Max and Al B.

    this vid- is the sheezy-

  • Funny thing here, At the end you are hearing la grange by zz top. That one was played on a strat. Not on the famed '59 pearly gates. :)

  • billy never uses just one guitar on any song .. 'pearly gates' is on there ..
