  • Great tutorial. Im ambidextrous and I can knit with both my left and right hands - if your left handed just reverse the whole process and it still works. Apparently the only difference is the lay of the stitch, so as long as your consistent it still works.

I knew what knit stitch was didnt know it was also called garter stitch. LOL! I was taught by my Grandmother many years ago so I probably just forgot.

  • Cute color of yarn. And it's so huge.

  • @1stSecretInvaderEve It's so fluffeh, I'm gonna die!!

  • I have tried SO many times to do this, but it never turns out neat or like that. It turns out in a knot to where i can pull the two ends and it comes undone. I am really confused, and I need to know how to knit by 3 weeks from now. Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

  • do u HAVE to start with 10 stitches??

  • @mintyct No, not if you don't want to. However, I've generally found that anything less than 3 can be a bit awkward

  • i started a scarf with this method and i was wondering why my scarf has both purl and knit patterns in it.

  • Great video. Helped a lot. Thank you!

  • what stitch is the one like braids? trying to figure this out for a loooong time.1..2..3.. BOOM! my head just burst

  • @nichivy

    cable?

  • nut, isn't that just a knit stich then?

  • Good job this helped alot!!!!

  • wow thx most of the videos were to first but this one was perfect

  • i've got a whole set of knitting needles, but i dont understand the sizes. the numbers on my needles are in millimetres, but that doesnt explain what size they are, i.e, which needle is size 8 and which is size 10?

  • @taybah97 size 8 in the US. is size 5 in MM. Size 10 in the US. is size 6 in MM. Just look up knitting needle conversion. Plus it should say on the needle.

  • @Fairychild432 thanks a lot. thats really helpful.

  • hey i was wondering what size needles do i use do contiune i using a 8 but i notice that when im doing this i dont get a pattern like u mentioned so i can countinue the knit stiching on to the second row it all goes every where causing me to restart

  • @xolivelaughlovebbyox Garter stitch is consited of 2 rows to make the bottom row. If you keep knitting several rows you will notice the pattern. All you do is knit every row..

  • @mollybells I'm having the same issue. :(

  • i did my first ever garter stitch from my first row of 20 stitches.. but somehow the yarn feed is at the bottom of the needle instead of the top.. what happened?? i thought i did it right... i'm trying to teach myself.. :) thanks!!

  • she makes it look so easy gosh i feel like a nub :(

  • OMG thank you so much! Before I was just a beginner but now im a Pro Beginner =)

  • So I couldn't sleep last night and in an effort to distract my mind and create something, I became obsessed with teaching myself to knit. I managed to figure out the first row...then checked here to learn what to do next. Thank you!! I now have a very pretty Christmas rectangle and I officially know how to knit :) xo

  • i know how to knit and i could of did a better example

  • @FlowerPicKeR101 Then make one?

  • :-) FYI Just found a great easy pattern at ebeginnersknitting (.) com

  • This is 'garter stitch'?? Because I read online that garter stitch will stop the edges from curling. I already do this knitting and have to tear apart my work because the edges curl really bad. I thought maybe I was pulling the yarn to tight? I thought garter stitch was going to be something different... Would appreciate some help please.

  • i this not also known as the stockingnette stitch?

  • I learned to knit yesterday :D

  • Great vid. Thanks

  • i cant get this i feel hopeless :,(

  • @jessicagomezmendez i didnt get it either, ive been trying to learn for months, but practice makes perfect, i know it sounds cheezy, but just keep doing it, and ur gonna feel sooo good when u get it. i just found out how to knit like 2 seconds ago and it was like the best feeling ever, good luck

  • This video taught me how to knit! :D

  • what is garter?

  • excellent video, perfectly explains how to do the garter stitch method which I need for my 4th Doctor Scarf. Thanks

  • i have watch A LOT of vidoes to help me but none of them help.... this one is perfect!!

  • this is the best vid for beginners by far it teached me how to knit XD i was so happy i strted dacning round room lmao

  • I have that same problem. Have you figured it out?

  • @thisindianajo with the remainder of the yarn you hold with your right hand, you may not be tightenin the yarn enough wen u knit a stich jst pull it abit if it feels abit slack but not too tight

  • I've figured it out since then, but I very much appreciate that you offered the advice. :) Thank you!

  • i cant carry the stitch to the other needle its frustrating for me.... ._.

  • I just started knitting and I started off this doing this stitch.

But when I knit, its turns out as being curved, not sqaure....what am I doing wrong...anyone know?

  • @h0n3ybuns it cud b that u might be droppin off stitches without knowin, a friend of mine had the same problem, u cud also b addin stitches too, so wen u start knittin jst keep cound how many u have casted on so u dnt lose any or gain any

  • This was by far the best video for me, a beginning knitter. It was simple, just the right pace and the lighting was fantastic. Thank you!

  • garter stitch is knitting every row.

  • Very helpful tutorial! Thanks!

  • that stitch seems simple but wen i try it doesnt work the yarn just gets all jumbled up

  • oh my I was so confused about garter stitch... so they are both the same as knit...lol

  • love how your bracelet matches the yarn hehe, great simple tutorial!

  • that looked easy but whenever I try to it doesn't work. i think it might be my yarn, though because it's like... curly

  • I don't get the difference btwn knit and garter stitch!

    help?

  • They're the same. There's just 2 names for it.

  • Its the same thing, just different names.. I think.

  • I understand where you're coming from, I had the same question a while back. garter stitch is the patter that arises when you knit every row. Your two basic individual stitches (knit and purl) are arranged in different ways to creat a lot of different "stitches" but what I think are better described as "patterns." So garter stitch is the pattern that comes from knitting every individual stitch. If you watch a few more videos of different stitches/patterns it might become a little clearer.

  • There are more ways to knit besides your own 800food4

  • It wont work for me!

  • the knit stitch or garter stitch?

  • Great video. I understand how it works from watching you. Thanks.

  • omg , thank you so much .

so useful and you put it in simpler steps .

    thank you !

    xxoo

    juels

  • i know she did and know i am knitting machine!!!!

  • yeah me too except i learned from a kids knitting kit on clearance. :D lol
