I am learning more each day about this movement and their efforts to change the community I live in. I do not understand how this protest changes anything. Will you protest when taxes are increased and more money is needed for social programs because of the decease in jobs in the Appalachian basin? Where will the protectors of the community be then when we need you? I look forward to the response from someone.
Funnt thing is most of the protesters are not even from the area (of course) they are literally shipped in to oranize these protests. They dont understand the culture or the history of mining. Coal is needed, strip mining is the cheapest, safest way to get to it. Ask anyone who knows anything about deep mining, hell, read the horror stories out of China where hundreds die every year deep mining. If you walk into a community and threaten the livelyhood of residents expect trouble, no brainer..
I would rather see mined and reclaimed land than mountains covered in solar collectors and wind turbines. Coal can be burned cleanly, efficiently and with low emissions. A proven fact.
We only get 44% of our electricity from coal: bit (dot) ly (slash) J0uHz
Jack Spadaro, director of MSHA, calls the dam "a disaster waiting to happen": bit (dot) ly (slash) 6CEWoO
Slurry has U-235 & other radioactive isotopes: bit (dot) ly (slash) 7xKBHp
And the USGS, NAS, Rep. Nick Rahall, and Massey CEO Don Blankenship have all said CAPP will be depleted in 20-30 years: bit (dot) ly (slash) 8sRF1B WV needs to invest in green jobs now!
marcuswvuspa you are stupid coal provides americas 92 percent to electricity where do you find your facts? i can back mine up with reports and the tree huggers sitting in the road should had been run over i would had if i was driving the white truck also there is no chance that if the levy dam would break it wouldnt ever hit the school as same for the silo and wat lame ass kid thinks there is uranium lmao he is so queer shoot him down with rest of the damn huggers coal is here to stay
Facts, you need to learn how to spell.I do not have a problem with everyone expressing their opinion.I do not want to hear about killing, and I cannot stand people who cannot create a sentence.Quit talking about killing people.Learn how to spell, please.
Mountain Top Removal completely destroys our God given Mountains and no amount of so called "reclamation" will bring them back. Less than 5% of electricity comes from coal produced by MTR. We can live without it.
Get a real job, or for that matter a job period! People like you should be shot for trespassing. You sure as hell don't mind to use the electricity that comes from coal. Maybe if it's so bad you oughta voluntarily turn off your power.
Thank God Assholes like that was arrested cause they had no right being there I hope they but them away for life trying to get people like my dad, me, my brother, and my uncle fired and lyed off. There all assholes. Coal is here to STAY!!!
Buffalo Creek was also regulated... and inspected days before the disaster. The fact that this toxic waste dump is "regulated" offers little comfort, especially when at the bottom of the hill is a school of little children.
i work my ass off everyday to keep sorry ass cheeseaters like this out bitching all the time, DONT LIKE COAL TURN OFF YOUR DAMN POWER,DO YOUR PART. you people are a joke
The coal you 'mine' only furnishes around 5% of America's energy needs man. That's ALL it supplies. We could do without your dirty coal quite easily with no threat to our livelihoods here.
i think i have the best solution for everybody on this video....let's just turn the lights out and in winter turn off the heat, and then see how bad our coal we mine is. we work hard at our safety for ourselves and others around us. by the way our coal is the only thing that has kept our state in good being during these hard times we all are facing at this time. do you turn your lights on everyday????
Let me Make this very Clear. I am an educated and free thinking Mining Engineer. I recieved my degree from a top rated Engineering School. And yes, certified does mean safe. I grew up beside an impoundment and a MTR site, as a kid. Do you understand what a MTR site looks like when it is finished? You Can't tell the difference after 10 or more years. Trees, planted by the coal company, grow back. It takes 7 to 10 years to get the permits, to start an MTR or a valley fill. That is alot of work.
Go look at strip mined areas from decades ago. They don't bring back the diverse trees, the nutrient rich soils, the clean running streams, the varied wildlife. It remains scarred and blighted. Raped and pillaged. Reclamation is a lie. MTR is a cancer in our paradise.
Stripmines were not part of the reclamation project.Stripmines were why the reclamation project was created.Your not helping the situation by posting improper comments.
Have a little respect for the many engineers, geologists and other formally educated people who work to make this very well regulated impoundment reasonably safe. What other structure can you name that is regulated by the USACE, DEP, EPA and countless other agencies? Unlike this video and your reply, this isnt propaganda, this is reality.
"...poor education and ...corporate propaganda often go hand in hand." Did you make this up? Uneducated people believe in corporations? Laughable.
The video is a lie. The Slurry Impoundment that the idiots were standing on is a certified structure. It is safer than the Hoover Damn. To compare it to Levy in New Orleans is obsurd. The required regulations that govern over the impoundment design are much more strick than what was done in New Orleans. Anyone can state an opinion, but opinions are not facts. Get it right. BTW, who the hell said CO2 was a pollutant? If so, they should stop global warming by stop breathing, or hold that CO2 in.
You look awfully comfortable standing on a soon to burst dam holding back a pond of radioactive, toxic sludge. What rational person would listen to a bunch of pot smoking, dirty hippies? I bet the camera you made this video with emits more radiation than your "radioactive toxic sludge". Do you honestly think the EPA would allow high concentrations of any radioactive substance near an elementary school? Lies, Lies, Lies. And are these the 5 criminals who got arrested for trespassing? HAHAHA
This is the beginning of the end, the more you guys do this, the more people become aware and become rightfully angry. I hope I can join you in the near future, but until then I wish you the best of luck!

MTR covers the trash that some of these same local folks who are complaining
have thrown into the local creeks and streams over the last 30 years. Hypocrits,
they should at least be thankful that their
trash is covered up and trees are planted
in the new soil. Trees are trees and I dont
care what type is planted back or whether they are indigenous trees. Tree huggers
be thankful you have more trees to hug
and talk to & whatever else it is you do
to the tree that we dont want to know.

I am very sorry to say, but certified does not = SAFE.
I am also sorry to say that poor education and willingness to believe corporate propaganda often go hand in hand.
We all have a right to live in safe communities and to have jobs that don't destroy the lives of our neighbors.
How close do you live to MTR blasting or a sludge dam? May we all get educated together, sooner rather than later.
