Say what you will about Classic Who's "shakey sets" and "rubber monsters", I don't think the Sontarans have ever been portrayed with such an effective alien, heartless menace as here in Sontaran Experiment and in Time Warrior by Kevin Lindsey. Simply a superb portrayal. It is amazing how much character he was able to project from under that incredible mask!
@63DW89A I have always thought that Kevin Lindsay gave a great performance here and in 'Time Warrior'. I have always wondered about the original Sontaran mask though, whether it was damaged or not. The mask here is great (though a bit pale) but it would have been better if he wore the same mask, because they are meant to be clones.
@Wodanaz The comments on the Time Warrior and Sontaran Experiment DVD's (SE also includes the documentary "Bred for War" about the Sontarans in DW), indicate that mask designer John Friedlander modified the mask/helmet to be easier & lighter for Kevin Lindsay to wear in SE, due to Kevin's worsening heart condition. In SE, Stuart Fell doubled for Kevin in the physical action scenes. Sadly, Kevin passed away in April 1975, a month after the original broadcast of Sontaran Experiment, part 2
Elisabeth Sladen ad-libbed "Linx" in the scene where the Sontaran first appears in "Sontaran Experiment". Producer Philip Hinchcliffe was so impressed that he ran all the way up the hill to compliment Lis on her reaction. Lis was impressed by his "boyish enthusiasm" and thought to herself, "I'm going to like this new producer!" Sontaran Experiment was the 1st story actually produced by Hinchcliffe
(From the "Sontaran Experiment" DVD commentary and info text)
@Pulsar205 Agreed. Actually ''Sarah Jane'' might be a little too popular as a company (her fandom eclipses other great companions) but she is sadly underrated lookwise. She is really adorable; see her shout ''Murderer, MURDERER''. So cute!
@Wodanaz Elisabeth Sladen's marvelous acting made "Sarah" WHO's most realistic companion, and I think that's why Sarah Jane remains the all-time favorite companion; she's just so girl-next-door-real that it is easy for the audience to connect with her. Like a real woman, in the blink of an eye"Sarah" could go from intelligent capable adult to the vulnerable little girl of the "murderer, murderer" scene you noted. Agreed, "Sarah" is adorable and cute, but also fascinating, complex and real.
@63DW89A Thumbs up because I like your comment, but I disagree about her character because I though the writing of the Sarah Jane character was dreadful after the first few Pertwee stories. I do like her, she is certainly one of the most adorable companions, with her rather Irish (and I know she is from Liverpool, so that might be why) looks.
She was good in bits parts on UK TV before landing her role in Doctor Who, too.
@Wodanaz Agree about Lis's adorable Irish looks. In Sarah's original 18 stories, I think she is underutilized only in Ark/Space and Masque/Mandragora; still it IS Sarah in Ark who figures out getting power from the Shuttle & who pulls the cable throught the conduit. Any of her other stories also fall apart if you mentally pull Sarah from them. No Sarah in Robot, Genesis/Daleks, Terror/Zygons, Pyramids/Mars, Brain/Morbius, Seeds/Doom, etc and the stories can't work, she's so integral.
This is way better than the remastered DVD's and even the upload quality as youtube video is great. I don't think the extra soundeffects were necissay though.
VERY VERY GOOD! you have made it as if it was made these days, very very good. please do more of this cinema ratio on more old episodes,it's works very well
Bravo once again Roberto. I liked the little pneumatic hiss as the helmet came off, a jet of steam wouldn't have gone amiss though. I thought that about the Sontaran Stratagem too, 'cos they didn't use them either.
just think if Tom had not broken his collerbone thsi story would have been longer.

Very good, actually. The colour correction makes it seem better than the original. I don't usually approve of cropping, but it works well here.
But where are the red ducks you promised? I want the red ducks.
