June Havoc is quoted to have said that Bernadette is the actress to portray Mama Rose the most realistic/ the closest to how Rose was in real life.....
@shutyourpiehole Obviously it is you who does not understand. Arthur Laurents chose Bernadette to play Rose and June Havoc went on record saying Bernadette was the most like the real Rose out of everyone to ever play her. I think they are more qualified than you. Wow...how embarrassing!
@KellyBevel I can understand that. Rose was, after all irritating, obnoxious and without talent herself so in that regard, I see the logic. However there is a reason writers of plays don't often write screen plays and visa versa - or cast or direct. Film is a different medium. Many successful broadway actors do not translate to film. They are not subtle enough. Ben Vereen is a classic case. Brilliant on stage, too "much" for film. Peters is the same.
i love how the producers told her not to perform since she was recovering from a viral infection and she performed anyway. and got one of the longest standing novations in tony award history.
Thanks so much for posting this. It's much better quality than other postings, but if you still have the orig. you should consider lengthening the video by 15 or 20 seconds to capture the enthusiastic standing ovation and cheers Ms. Peters received from the audience.
You know Patti is the one person who clicked "Dislike"

I think Bernadette is giving the performance of her career 8 times a week at the Walter Kerr Theatre in A Little Night Music. Incomparable.

Wow, I REALLY wish I could have seen this live. Looking at the shots of Bernadette before the PHENOMENAL performance, she must have been SO amazing.
