Airbags here are fired off with pyrotechnics. You can be going fast or slow, it's all on how the sensors are hit. It's potassium nitrate and sodium azide reacting to produce nitrogen gas.

I'm thinking this is staged. Airbags inflate and deflate in just a fraction of a second. It deploys at about 200mph (which is about 322kmh) and deflates. Everything happens in an actual fraction of a second - 1/25 of a second or so.

Also, there's no powder, it's nitrogen gas, which can cause burns ;)

It's completely fake! First of all when an airbag deploys there is a great deal of powdery substance that goes all over the place. That old woman would have had to hit that bumper with a sledge hammer to get the airbag to deploy like that. And did you notice that that very late model car only seems to have a driver side airbag. That car would have also had a passenger side airbag that would have deployed too.. BA BA BA BA BOOOOOOOOGUS!!

@mdv409 actually air bags do not contain powder, and they are deployed by crumple sensors built into the cars chassis. low speed impacts that do not damage or crumple the chassis will not set off an air bag. also, seats do not contain sensors to detect if anyone is sitting in them, but seat belts do.

speed sensors are not used for the simple reason that if you are driving very slowly and someone hits you at speed from the front the air bags still need to deploy.

I've been driving when an airbag went off. There is powder all over when an airbag goes off and lots of smoke. The airbags rapidly deflate as well. That is not a real airbag as there is no smoke and it stays inflated till he squeezes the air out.
