guy comes to LA and goes on a hotdog quest wow is he trynna offend us in cali or what we have alot of great food here we have people from all over the world that have came to california and introduced us too some great food for your info tony no1 in california really gives a fuck bout a hotdog maybe thats y you ran into some weird hotdogs covered in shit
L.A. is one of the greatest food cities on the planet, and Tony goes on a hot dog quest? shame on you Tony...you could of done a much better job than that...
like pizza, hot dog is one of those iconic american foods that I really don't care about (if all of them disappeared tomorrow, I wouldn't feel a slightest feel of loss). However, if I set personal taste aside and look at the discussion seriously and objectively, I have to say that california has no business trying to compete with new york when it comes to hot dogs. hot dog is one of those things that is strictly new york, east coast. like it or hate it, that's just how it is...
@mardamek1 Jesus, you're a f-ing idiot, only an arrogant east coaster would dismiss hot dogs out of hand. Furthermore, have you ever had a hot dog in Chicago? They far exceed "east coast" hot dogs in terms of flavor and sophistication. Also, by the way, pizza is not an "iconic american food." Pizza is Italian, dawg.
@TheProcessDoc, I know that pizza originates from Italy, but it is certainly iconic American food alonside the hot-dog. if we follow your logic, then there's nothing really American, starting from the language, ending with food. it is American in that the Americans are obsessed with it and can't imagine their lives without it. second point is that I don't care for either. I just know that the hot-dog thing started in New York. can't say that New York has the best. so, don't get all wound up ...
@mrbomjam American food is an amalgam of the many cultures that have come here over the centuries. As Bourdaine himself put it "American food is what ever is being cooked here right now."
Sometimes he seems so out of place or that he's trying so hard.
Like in the "cool" tony scenes, it can sometimes just make me laugh how hard he's trying to seem casual.
But don't get me wrong, love the guy and his sense of humor. Real down to earth cat. Wouldn't mind grabbin a bite to eat sometime and pickin' his brain.

Hot dog quest. When in L.A. he should be on a carnitas burrito quest. L.A. all my life and only been to Pinks once and once only.

@remo306 I think Tony left. He had problems with the way the producers ran the show

America has no true food culture. His episodes in the U.S.A. are so boring. He only does them to say he did episodes in America.

That's bc he grew up in Jersey and did the grimy jobs.
You should definitely try to get his Audio book of "Kitchen Confidential". Awesome awesome book and story.

Bacon Dog? I'd be all over that! Bacon is good on anything.

@NewsMan580 hehe true. If there was bacon ice cream (and I'm sure someone has made that already), I'd be all over that.
