  • I love this version! I also love the original but this is a bit special! Pure and simple.

  • wow....

  • THE GUY IV LIKED FOR 10 MONTHS IS NAMED DALTON !

  • F..ckin like you all the Eagle. Fly so high, mann and you will be the idol for your next generation. I am now on the present day and I can sing your song. See how classic it is. Thanks uploader, you are something I can't imagine to say something.

  • Happy Birthday JD!!!!!

  • Happy Birthday JD!!!

  • happy birthday, JD!

  • Wow! Didn't know about this video. Thanks! Gotta say, though, that MMM couldn't hold a candle to JD. Like comparing the Monkees to The Beatles.

  • incredible man, voice and talent

  • First time I've ever seen him...knew his amazing voice from 'Her town too' and 'Faithless love' but for some reason I was sitting here tonight and decided to do a search for him- glad I did!

  • I know JD Souther wrote a lot of songs over the years with the Eagles. But his voice sounds like he could've sung with the Eagles just as easily.

  • @GBeret83 It's a real mystery to me WHY JD Souther was not a member of the group. I've heard it said that Don and Glenn's egos were too big and they feared he may soak up more of the attention....??

  • J.D. sounds amazingly a lot like Michael Martin Murphy here to me. Check out MMM doing Geronimo's Cadillac back during this time. Their voices are very similar. Also chk MMM doing Cosmic Cowboy. This is GOOD STUFF!!

  • @windsong1a

I just checked out MMM doing Geronimo's Cadillac and Cosmic Cowboy on YouTube. Absolutely brilliant. I had honestly never heard of him until reading your comment today. Thank you very much.

  • @srvgtr Glad to introduce you to MMM. His best know song is Wildfire, but he has a lot of good tunes. Check out Texas Morning, Natchez Trace, What Am I Doing Hanging Round, and Boy From The Country....all good tunes.

  • Man! This is so great! Classic JD at his best. You gotta love JD Souther He is just so great! I'm glad I grew up with is music. His style has been a big influence on my own playing and singing style. Thanks JD!

  • My ancestors!

  • This what real artists are like. not the prefab lip syncing bimbos who can't sing a lick without autotune. this is true music legend.

  • Frey and Henley did one of the greatest robbery of old times; They took the Eagles just to keep the early days legacy for themselves.

  • if it wasnt for this amazing songwriter and Jackson Brown the Eagles wouldnt have had half the hits they had !!.

  • @southernrocka Yeah, but the Eagles harmonies are just fantastic, no matter who writes the song. Still, I agree,... JD and JB did contribute to their success.

  • Thank you for this terrific post. One of many many great songs by JD.

  • Motown boy Jd Souther, and our music from this amazing town, then go and learn from other great musicians. The l970s were an incredible decade, and the legacy that it left for the next generations.

  • "How many miles does a bad man have to run?"...what a great line. This is a fantastic version of this song and I'd love to have a dvd copy of the whole show. This song would have worked well on the Sam Peckinpah classic outlaw cowboy movie, "Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid".

  • He sounds just like Glenn Frey in his early days.... no wonder they hung out together...Very Good JD.........JD....If you guys like this check out the Desperado cd By the Eagles.... he contributed alot.... or check him out in the Souther,Hillman Furray band.....

  • Check out John David Souther How long 1972

  • Souther performed on early eagles albums adding his voice to their great harmonies.and might have even wrote some of their early material,I'm not sure.

  • Damm!!!! this is good stuff

  • This sounds so cool on the acoustic guitar. I think the Eagles' version is best vocally, and it tells the story best lyrically, but J.D. is very much awesome as well. I wish that I could combine the acoustic intro in this, and the vocals and some of the later harmonica from the Eagles'. Both are great. I think that the coolest is the Desperado mashup, though.
