Actually, the unification of Europe goes far back into history than just your short stopping at Hitler. Many despots like Napolean and Kaiser Wilhelm also wanted to unify Europe, seeing it as a way to create a "Revived Roman Empire" where naturally they themselves would be the King (Ceasar) of. Hitler took his ideas from many people living long before him, not to mention those in the secret societies of his day, who STILL want to create a strong Euro-Empire, led by a future Antichrist.

So many wars, so many disasters. The EU is the best thing we had so far to stop this. Unity trough cooperation . So the answer is yes, the people (including me) where asked. But i am certain that you feel that only a referendum is good enough.
