It's like watching Bob Ross. He makes it look so easy. But then when you go to the kit, you realize your "Friendly little trees" don't quite sound the same as Jared's.
For everyone saying this isnt funk, it is funk, the deffinition of funk in the drummers world is using lots of ghost notes on the snare and hitting the snare off the 2 and the 4 beat.
@Easleytee Go to his other vids, or watch his jams with Cobus. He's a crazy drummer. One of the biggest, if not the biggest, drum lesson sites on the internet. He is an awesome drummer, dude.
Why do people have to be such haters just enjoy the music. If you love instruments and music then enjoy. stop talking so much garbage. if you could do better then him good for you. but dont hate be mature.
Say what you will...Jared is a kick ass drummer who dedicates alot of his time to helping out beginners and pros. He can play some really complex combos with robotic timing and he can groove with the best of 'em.
HEY KIDZ HEY BOYZ AND GIRLS THE REASON PPL DONT LIKE THIS VIDEO IS CUZ ITS NOT HARD TO DO ANY OF THIS IF YOU PLAY DRUMS!!!!! DONT BELEIVE ME? I GUESS YOU DON'T PLAY INSTRUMENTS!!!
stop wondering why ppl dont like it. experience = insight. people who don't play drums or any instruments for that matter should really not be on here telling people what is funky drumming.. you probably don't know what "funk drumming" is defined by.... it's not speed and aggression! gl kids!
I've been playing electric drums and I just recently got a sabian hi hat. I'm noticed that in this video, Jared's hi hat never really seems to 'open' yet he gets a very good "chic" as well as a good "ssss" sound out of it. Jared, how much space do you have between your hats? Or is that irrelvant, and you're simply using your left foot to contol the spacing as needed to get those sounds? I'm finding I can't do very much now that I'm using regulay hats =(
@ssdaven probably the best solution to your problem is to practice opening your hi hats different amounts and find out what's comfortable for you, with foot position and pressure on the pedal and stuff like that. everybody has different preferences when it comes to playing drums, and it takes a while to find out what works and is comfortable for you. practicing and trying different methods is the best way to find out. hope i could help!
Hey Jared! Nice! Question - Can you tell me what you do to your bass drum when you play live and with no mic. Because i notice in this video you have a pretty big pillow in there. Thanks Jared.
ur my idol jared falk if u read this plzs remember tht i will if god wishes meet u one day n tell u about this time ur my idol man i wish u could have given me secret lessons
I say it because sometimes (like 1:09) it wasn'r robot-perfect timing, which you need to be in the 21st century to 'get there' :) When the music held, his pocjet didn't, it kept as if drumming by himself
If you dig this stuff, please check out local hometown boy ANDY FISENDEN, his funkness is up on youtube :)!

@Goryllo , obviously, you don't have the slightest clue about this talented young man so please feel free to go back to playing that fake rockband video game and leave the real drumming to the real drummers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
check me out, my vid's called "lorenzo bianchi ceccherini". i'm just saying this ain't funk, it's 70's disco funky and i don't like it. this guy's vids are usually great, in this case i think not.
this is real good.... only funk is really more about laying grooves, where as this sounds like you're matching to the notes your band plays. not that it's bad....but this isn't exactly funky.
We internet ppl want to see Jared doing something like this with only him and a funky slap bass, right? 'cause this is just prfect *wish I could do that*
Seriously, drumming has nothing to do with how complex something is. Open up creative elements and make something really simple so other people can groove to it.
I have to admit, there's been a tremendous improvement from the awkwardness of the earlier videos to this. It's obvious he's been sharpening his skills as ANY GOOD MUSICIAN should. Great job!
@jcenawl Hey, at least you have one to play! I would set aside my guitar for a nice set of drums any day (I've only gotten to play the drums twice in my life, each time was like I had stars streaming from my hands to the end of the sticks)...too bad its just a loud nuisance to my family...
themajordud, maybe you don't understand that theres a difference between timing and time signature, learn that and watch the video again you'll realise this playing is perfect

Then I noticed a few other points in the video that didn't sound right. My conclusion is that it is out. Which of those concept do you think Falk is using at 1.22?

Ok mate so:

There is 18 of them to be exact (that's how many of them fit in a 4/4 bar), and he groups them into 3 groups of six such notes (3 x 6 = 18).
amjan 1 year ago
Now, you should listen to the kick drum.
There are 3 kicks during that bar - each of them marks the beginning of each group of six notes. This should help you follow it.
He handles that unusual (and difficult) part perfectly and finishes with the cymbal on the "1" of the next bar.
