  • Not walking on tatami mats in your shoes is an inherent part of the Japanese culture, not to mention the tatami mats are expensive. That would be like having a really expensive set of pure white clothes and rolling in dirt/mud when you don't have to...

  • no need to ask. This guy must be Canadian

  • i've always dreamed to have a japanese house...all packed with zen garden, minimalist interior and a garden pool filled with kois. =)

  • :)

  • Question: What happen if you got caught being seen wearing shoes around the house? Will they fine you? I notice every American who live there always take their shoes off before walk through their apartment.

  • @Greatersend it's part of their traditional beliefs, not a freaking law.

  • @potatochipXL Well, it must be a freaking law if people obey by it...I'm just saying.

  • @potatochipXL it's called "respect" you might not have heard about it.

  • Tatami room, just to let you know :)

  • thats kind of what my sisters house looks like, but she has 2 floors, the top floors hallways are much more spacious and we used to all sleep upstairs in case some one broke into the home.

  • hey cool, please dont be an asshole and further destroy other Americans ability to move there. :D

  • @JasmineRodriguez9 i remeber i was your age little person hahah i was reallly upsess with japan and i also beg my mom if i coud be an exchange student haha but that was 2 to 3 years ago..? i guess and now im in highschool and the only thing i really want to do is maintain my grades and work in finance at wall street in new york city hahha but if you have the motivation to go to japan then u should study their language. :D best of luck champ

  • I love that in traditional japanese culture - they take their shoes off when they go in the home. It's just cleaner than American style of bringing the outdoors in.

  • @VideoGuyNC Umm, i'm absolutley American. My mother is Sicilian-American and my father is Black/Puerto Rican. No asian what so ever. And since i was born its been an absolute rule to take off the shoes at the door before walking around the house. Its not just "Japanese Culture" to take shoes off.

  • @MindChamber NO, no! I'm sorry that you thought I was making a comment specific to you or your ethnicity, and yes I know that many cultures believe in taking shoes off when indoors. I was simply refering to this in the japanese culture because this is a video of a "Japanese apartment". I'm sorry if my comment was taken wrong or if it offended you.
