  • That would be good news. Begs the question as to what they are doing for an engine ....

  • An obvious question. And it would be reasonable to assume that it would cost 20% more to build 100% than 80% simply because of the material cost alone. Parts are bigger and heavier,, more rivets etc so labour would be about 20% more. But that is not the reason. The main reason is that there are very, very few engine options in the HP range that a 100% replica needs. Ask Mike O'Sullivan, the guy that build the Spitfire replicas, why he won't produce anything bigger than 90% scale.....

  • @VHZMH Titan is working on a full scale T-51 as we speak.

  • Something I've always wondered... if you have the money, time and dedication to build an 80% replica, why not just built a 100% replica to the original factory blueprints?

  • damn you 240 p!!!!!!!!

  • Luftwicker, as previously posted, the FW-190 is a scratch built 80% scale replica using a 400 hp M14P radial. Since the video, there is now an 80% scale Bearcat and an 80% scale Mosquito underway.....

  • What's the story with the FW-190 in the hangar?

  • Beautiful. Out of curiosity, what's the a/c in the hangar?

  • @jollopar

I can't quite see what is showing in the background, but most likely to be the M14P-powered 80% scale Focke_Wolf 190. But could be the 75% scale Chev LS6-powered Spitfire.

Regarding the query on the prop, it is a modified king Air alloy prop, virtually the same as what Jim Wickham is using on his nearly completed Chev-powered Stewart S.51

  • Hey VHZMH, in looking more closely at the "ToowoombaAce" video, this is the same plane, isn't it? (in the other video it looked at first like the fuselage was painted green). I own a Stewart S-51 and have recently bought a Hartzell prop (91.5"). What is the diameter on your new prop?

  • Is this possibly a Stewart S-51? The Stewart is a 70% scale, all-metal Mustang replica. Engine sounds nice. Did somebody shoehorn in a V-12? I know one guy from the East Coast who is doing that.

  • @Twister051

Looks like a Stewart, but is a one-off scratch built 80% scale P-51 with a GM LS-6 350 ci V8 with supercharger. Since that run, the prop has been changed to an all metal cut down King Air prop. Once the prop governor is tuned to the engine/prop it will be ready for test flying again.

  • @VHZMH Thank you VERY much for your reply. How long have you worked on it? Will it be marketed as a kit? It so, what will the cost likely be? What is the model name (e.g., "Stewart 51, etc") so I can find more info about it? There's another YouTube video by "ToowoombaAce" of another Australian 80% scale Mustang doing an engine run. Is the Mustang in the other video the same design? Do you know the other builder? Do you have a website? My e-mail is maloy51@msn.com. Looks FANTASTIC!

  • @VHZMH Another question....was this plane featured at a recent Emy Gully airshow? I found some pix on the internet of what appears to be the same plane. How many years has it taken you to get this far (the May 2010 engine run). When do you expect to be flying? Warm regards - Twister

  • @Twister051

Yes, same aircraft in both video's and at Emu Gully. The prop diam I am not sure, but can find out as I could be out at Emu Gully again next week.

  • What kind of P-51 is this? A kit, scratch built? Looks and sounds very nice! Thanks, Mike

  • Sounds very NICE, and the aluminum metal work is georgeous. When will we see it fly?? Post more videos when you can. Thanks Don
