  • @marmal320 Thanks for the comment...it is a great song alright.

  • like how he gives the history of a song to

  • @patrick442222 Delighted that you liked the "little bit of history" with each song. I was not sure whether this was of interest to people but I think a tiny bit of background is good for a better overall understanding of the song.

  • great music keep up the good songs

  • @patrick442222 Thank you very much...I will !

  • Nice version to get the pub crowd singing....I prefer it finger style, more emotive, specially if you wanted get us lot gurnin in our beers.

  • @thecelt1963 Yeah....I never tried picking it but you could...not sure about the gurning in the beer thing....sounds messy !

  • hi tring this song for week now , just cant seem to get the strum right , is it d d u udu thanks

  • @35546d The strum I use is DDU-UDU, I'm assuming you mean ( d d u - udu) as rythmic?

  • I LOVE this song. Thank you for making this one of my favorites to sing and play :)

  • I really LOVE your attitude my friend....you will have no problem at all once you are that positive...and it is far from rocket science !! Enjoy and prosper !

  • @MrRockuk Good question ! Most of my technique in both strumming and picking in simply "feel". Send me an e-mail and we might be able to chat on the phone and perhaps I can give you a tip or two. dilligaf@ireland.com

    P

  • @Patbennett71 Pat, I am not doing a lot of playing just at present. I work a lot during the summer season in places like the Ceili in Bunratty and several pubs and clubs in places like Kilkee etc. I will be doing a bit of playing around Christmas but primarly at this time of year I write and learn material....as well as doing the odd video !

  • is it fiels or feilds of athenry

  • @RKcousins625 Neither ! It is actually FIELDS....LOL

  • i love to sing this song and gona learn this on my guitar

  • @YorkGod Good on ya....go for it !

  • @brianflynn23 I think its best sung by Booze Brothers and Dropkick Murphy

  • @YorkGod Have not heard either of these versions but will take your word on it. Great names !!!

  • Nice work

"By a lonely prison wall" for the first two verses tho. That's the lyrics

  • @johnbhoyc67 Thanks my friend and point taken about the slight difference in the lyrics. You may very well be right because the version I sing here is one I learned by listening to other singers and they sometimes put their own touch to the lyrics. I will check it out but either way enjoy it and if you are singing then do the version you know.

  • Spancil Hill!

  • @clanmorversifier Hah ! a song I sing night after night ! I will include it in the neaf future.......a lot of verses in that one !! Thanks for the post.

  • go on the flynner!

  • @BitsInAByte Go long ya boy ya...!!!!!!!

  • brillant well done you

  • @eeyyee123 Thank you very much !

  • If I want to play it with out the capo should I still use the D shape?

  • @woodedape Sure ! The capo is only put on to suit your voice in this case. If it is okay for your singing just playing it in straight D then all the better !! Enjoy

  • wow great singing and playing im starting to learn folk songs. great tutorial thanks

  • Excellent cover , Thanks for the great lesson Flynner . Now if only i could sing that good !
