Z06 completely owns the lowly S2000 on the track and is soo much better at cornering than your POS Integra crap that it's embarrasing. Nordschleife Z06= 7:42.9 S2000= 8:39 Integra TypeR= 8:43 Hockenheim Z06= 1:11.5 S2000= 1:18.2 Integra TypeR= 1:21.1 Vairano Handling Course Z06= 1:19.523 S2000= 1:25.645 Integra TypeR= 1:28.200
the S2000 times u posted are probably from a N/A car making 250whp or less. Give the S2 the same power to weight ration as any Z06 and it is a different story. I do love the Z06's and Z07 they are the best car Americas ever made.
So you want to compare a stock car to a highly modded one? Why? Also show me proof it would be faster with equal power to weight. FYI, it wouldn't. It's still on skinny tires with poor grip compared to the Z06 and just "giving" it more power would only make that worse. Check the skidpad numbers.
600ft skidpad
S2000= .90g
Z06=1.0g
Sorry, but the S2000 needs more than just an equal power to weight ratio to equal a Z06.
The S2000 CR is a better more evenly match. It can pull just under or up to1g as well. That shows what minor suspension and tire upgrade/changes can do.
17 seconds per lap is not pretty. Not even the CR can corner with a Z06 and it's on some very nice Bridgestone Potenza RE070 extreme performance summer tires while the Z06 is on runflats. Z06 is just a better performance platform all around.
I dunno, for the price of the Z06, one could slap a turbo on the S2000 CR model and call it more equal, and still spend less money. The arguments could go on forever. We are looking at 2 liters vs 7 liters. Shouldn't the 7 liter car be several factors faster than the 2 liter car? It's not. It's faster, but I don't see where the extra 5 liters went. Maybe Honda is just being polite by not making a 7 liter engine? The Z06 is an amazing machine, respect to a fast car. I had a ZR1 back in the 90s.
Did you even read my comments? I proved the Z06 OUT CORNERS the S2000. What does that have to do with liters? Also, the Z06 IS several factors faster. We are talking about a 14.0 second 1/4 mile car vs an 11.5 1/4 mile car. That's definitely several factors faster. Did you know they get about the same gas mileage? Yeah, so where did those 5 less liters go in the economy department?
well you were earlier comparing lap times from a s2k to a z06. the z06 has much more power so even if it handled worse than the s2k, it would still get a better lap time from the power advantage it has. grip and braking power is easily fixed.
Clearly you didn't read enough as I also proved the Z06 corners better than the S2000 anyway. Why are you trying to just add 300hp and add extra grip and braking to an S2000 to compare to a stock Z06? Only retards compare modded cars to stock ones.
hey i prefer a well built car to a car that some old rich dude just has the money to buy and cant do any work himself on it. its how u build not how you buy. and modded cars earn more respect. u cant buy respect.
Haha! It didn't take long to get the hate post out of you. You are pathetic kid.
Here's reality: You own a POS civic, so you worship the S2000. You didn't like reading the facts I provided that show the Z06 rapes the S2000 at the track and out corners it, so you made a super gay excuse post about comparing an imaginary modded S2000 to a stock Z06. Are you a ricer? Watch my video and take the test.
im no ricer. and you are very ignorant, meaning stupid but not knowing that your stupid. its ok. your mostly comparing a car thats 70k to a car thats half the price. so a modded s2k should be a fair comparison. anyway, i sold my civic and i have a 07 nismo 350z.does that make me a ricer? im going to mod it too, so i gues yes i must be a ricer. i enjoy modding cars. btw you sound "supergay" trying to defend your precious z06. your worse than a cocky mustang owner.
You didn't watch my ricer video. Go watch it and report back. I don't need to "defend my Z06." It wins. You need to make up super gay excuses because you don't like the fact that it wins. Speaking of ignorant, you are now claiming you wasted a lot of money buying a car slower than my 9 year old Corvette. Was that supposed to impress me? Major FAIL.
Actually, it does corner faster even stock and on 10 year old tire technology. Here is the recorded lateral G data for both cars from Road and Track.
2007 Nismo 350Z= .96g
2001 Corvette Z06= 1.00g
Never mind the fact that my car is also a full second quicker in the 1/4 mile. Both cars have also been tested by car rags at Willow Springs. Sorry, mine was faster stock to stock.
Nine year old Corvette > Nismo 350Z
You wasted a lot of money because of your Japan obsession.
lol. did you know skidpad numbers dont really mean anything. skidpad numbers come down to what kind of tire your using. lol. not so much the car, i can easily put sticky tires on the 350 and get a skidpat rating of over 1.00.
if i race the z and u race ur vette on the track, i bet id win since i have a lot of experience with autox, thats pretty much why i got the z. fwd was lacking and i needed more power. the z has 305 hp, but ill add more.
You are completely retarded and ignorant. Your Nislow could only achieve .96g on Bridgestone Potenza RE050As. A UTQG 140 tire. My car achieved a 1.00g rating on UTQG 220 tires with ten year old tire technology! Do you even know what that means? It means YOUR car came with shorter life, stickier tires than mine and mine still corners faster because it's just a much better chassis. Put slicks on my car and it will spank yours on slicks even harded than it does stock to stock.
"if i race the z and u race ur vette on the track, i bet id win since i have a lot of experience with autox"
Here's your video.
watch?v=qdCgmA-_0-E
I've been racing ON THE TRACK for several years now as you can see in my videos. I don't waist my time dodging cones in a parking lot. There is a huge difference.
Right. You paid at least $10,000 more than I did for a car with 100 less hp, 200 more lbs, and slower cornering. Great job. And the only way to make respectable power is spending thousands more on forced induction. On the other hand, not only do I already have 100 more horsepower, but I can buy a cam for $400 and have another 70hp anytime I want it.
You wasted a lot of money because of your Japan obsession.
u go quite a distance defending your corvette. lol. and anyway a vette is chevys best car. its thier supercar. ur comparing it to a 350z. lol. id love to see the look on ur face after i smash you and u went thru all the hard work of finding this research. haha.
it takes chevys best car to beat nissans sports coupe.
maybe i should just get a supra instead, its faster than your vette.
"id love to see the look on ur face after i smash you"
So after I prove with facts that my nine years old corvette is indeed a superior performance car than your 2007 Nismo, and I correct your bogus assuption that you have more track expirience, all you have left is to dream about winning an imaginary race against me? Okay. Whatever helps you sleep better.
"maybe i should just get a supra instead, its faster than your vette"
You're just piling on the FAIL, the more you post. Did you not watch my videos where I directly compete with a 6-speed turbo Supra? Here, let me quote the owner of the Supra:
"Z06s are clearly dominant on the road course. Supras need much more modification to keep up with a Z05 which is lighter and has more available power. Supras can be modified easily and can be very fast in the straights but will always struggle with it's weight and turbo lag. Also turbocharged cars are more inclided to overheat. I'm happy keeping pace with 01Z06guy."
The current holder of the standing mile record by unlimited modified cars is absolutely not the measure of a sports car. When you say that decides which is the greatest car in the world, it only goes to prove you're a bias idiot who picks that event because it's pretty much the only thing any Japanese car holds any record at. No, ultimate modded sports car would definitely require turning and braking. Maybe LeMans wins or ALMS Championships?
That's not even getting into the idiocy of comparing a modded car to a stock one or trying to explain to someone who does not race how gigantic a 17 second per lap advantage really is. It really doesn't get "several factors faster" any more than that.
Its true! You have to be FAT, WHITE, and BALD to drive a corvette. Next time your out driving around take a look and see for your self. Hell, I'm 2/3rds the way there. I guess I better start eating more!
the s2000 is a marvel, producing 220 HP per liter which incredible. THe z06 is a fast car, but it's out classed by ferrari enzo which houses a 6.0 L engine and will destroy the corvette like a toy with out any FORCE INDUCTION.
Second of all, the Z06 doesn't have FI. Third of all stop sweating an enzo. All these idiot fanboys think its some godly car because its overpriced at 1 million dollars and they automatically assume a million dollar car has to be the best. You probably don't even know what motor is in the enzo much less how much the car weighs or anything of that matter so shut up and leave. Better yet delete your comment, you look like a complete idiot.
...with that mindset, if everyone drove V6's to V12's in Japan- a country that is already expensive to live, barely bigger than Florida and everything is imported, the price of gas would top $5-6 a gallon- easily! That's why they are so committed to small displacement motors since as far as I can remember. North American's are only now realizing- with oil prices climbing, the benefits of 4 cyl and more fuel efficient technology.
exactly. The same guy that lives down the street from you and has been a musclehead his whole life is now trading in that gas guzzler for a money saver. Gas will never be under 2 dollars again, its time to start thinking about the future
"Gas will never be under 2 dollars again, its time to start thinking about the future"
Why is this the Corvette's problem when nobody seems to mind the poor mileage of Japanese performance models? The Corvette has a much brighter fuel efficiency future than the GTR, STi, or EVO. Just being 4 (or 6) cylinders and small displacement is no garuantee of fuel efficiency. Those cars continue to get bigger, heavier, and more powerful.
Z06 guy: you have a point on the tariffs/taxes that Asian countries apply to larger disp cars- which, in effect, disrupts foreign cars from entering. Though controversial to some, I can see their point. Historically, most large motor cars have poorer emissions ratings and to combat importing these cars, they are forcing mfg's to think 'Is A V12, V10 and V8 really necessary.'
"tariffs/taxes that Asian countries apply to larger disp cars...I can see their point. Historically, most large motor cars have poorer emissions ratings"
True, but the corvette is living proof that displacement does not always mean greater fuel consuption and emissions. So if the goal is to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, why not tax based on fuel consumption and emissions directly instead of displacement that may or may not be worse depending on a bunch of other factors?
on an aside, can anyone on this post substantiate or dismiss the rumor that Toyota and Lotus helped tune the C5/C6 corvettes. I have heard smatterings here and their on various post.
I called it way back then when Honda made the decision to sell the 100,000 engines that GM would use their "new" V6's on the Saturn Line first and tweak the hell out of them until they got it right and then boast it on their main GM products as theirs.
...again, please talk about this innovation you touched on. As I noted earlier. GM now employs variable valve-timing and other elements in their '3.6 L' V6 Cadillac CTS that was never present in GM V6's before they bought those 3.5L V6's from Honda 4+/- years ago. 3.6 from 3.5- seems a little boring an reverse engineering is all you need to keep up now adays. And please tell me about how many engines have been bought from GM?
"And please tell me about how many engines have been bought from GM?"
Ever heard of the companies called Ultima or SSC? LSx engines are swapped into anything they can fit into. There is a reason for that. I've never heard about anybody making money selling kits to put Honda engines into RX7's or Porsches. Clearly, you feel the need to chance S2000 vs. Corvette into GM vs Honda. Why can't you say on topic?
Cars that Utilize a Honda motor, Ariel Atom and K-1 attack roadster, theres no doubt that an LS setup is solid, hence the use in the GTM, but for light weight applications a Honda motor has advantages.
"for light weight applications a Honda motor has advantages"
Agreed. But you have to be talking about extremely light wieght. After all, with a curb weight of 2496 lbs, the GTM is not exactly what you would call heavy.
01 Z06 guy: GM produces the Pontiac Solstice/ Saturn Sky are current GM attempts to tap into the roadster market. That was the opportunity to show off their engineering 'ability' by producing an 'S2000 beater' and all they were able to achieve was a 4 cyl 2.4 L I-4 DOHC SMPI engine rated at 173 HP. Want more: to achieve more they had to resort to F/I to get 260HP. All this to beat 1999 Japanese technlogy in 2007.
"Pontiac Solstice/ Saturn Sky are current GM attempts to tap into the roadster market. That was the opportunity to show off their engineering 'ability' by producing an 'S2000 beater'"
And they did exactly that.
Sky redline= 260hp = 14.0 1/4 mile = $29175
S2000= 240hp = 14.0 1/4 mile = $34300
The 173hp version is clearly aimed at the MX-5 and only costs $20,490. I have been on track with a turbo Solstice and was shocked by it's ability. It's no joke.
It's no doubt the GXP and redline offer a great bang for the buck, but the finish work of GM's roadsters interiors weren't something I could live with. For Sub $25,000 the C5 is #1 imo. Great interior, and superior straight line acceleration.
The F20 & F22 Engines are award winning motors... winning 5 times in the 1.8 - 2.0 L category... the Corvette engine? nothing, why? BMW and Ferrari own 4.0L and above! Z06guy, face the facts the S is extraordinary and the vette is simply ordinary... I think you flame here cuz you make a payment on a car you don't really want...
"perhaps you should take a look at the new LS3... Trade in your Z06 and get a normal vette, hell its putting out more power than the C5 Z06"
You have a point. The LS3 makes more power stock and makes a lot more power with mods than my LS6, but the base vette is still not yet beating C5Z06 lap times. And that's what I care about. Besides, the new LS3 vette, although reasonably priced for a new car, is still more than double what I paid for my C5Z06.
I can't think of one person that would buy the base vette... If you have the disposible income to even consider a vette then you get the Z51, and maby the Navigation, however on the same note, I can't think of one person that would buy the Z06 with as much power as the normal vette makes, thats like justifying $1,000 for every additional Horsepower
"I can't think of one person that would buy the Z06 with as much power as the normal vette makes"
It's not just about power. The Z06 has a more track ready suspension than the Z51, it has bigger brakes, bigger wheels and tires, dry sump, trans and diff coolers, and STILL weighs ~100 lbs lighter than the coupe. I think the chassis is stiffer too.
all true statements, however, the purchase of a Z51 coupe, makes more sense, dollar for dollar, it destroys the Z06, which is the case for many supercars, but if the justification is there to spend 70- 100k then I'd have to choose the Viper, simply because of its status.
The new 600hp Vipers are also proven to beat the Z06 on the track. They just are not as nice on the street with as much comfort/convenience. The choices always come down to your personal priorities, budget, and preference. That's why which is "better" arguments are stupid and why I try to stick to arguments like performance that are factual and can be proven.
I was at the track this weekend and there was a modded street 996 turbo there that was smoking fast. We were not on the track at the same time, but he was running 1:04's compared to my 1:07's.
Impressive, I knew the 996 was good, but wow, I wonder what mods it had done, I know bigger Turbo's and/or a Boost controller makes a fast car into a screamer
I don't think so. Not sure about C4, but on the old C3 cars, the engine sat well behind the front axel. Easy since the hood was a mile long. :) C5 was the first Corvette to have a rear mounted transaxel which was the major part of greater balance. As well as a much lighter, all aluminum LS-x engine.
"If an agreement can be met that the Corvette is first and foremost a straight line car"
But it's not!!! I have owned and driven many sports cars and many fast cars. I'm telling you that my C5Z06 is EQUAL parts power, cornering, and brakes. People usually just talk about straight line speed, 1/4 mile times, and hp, but that's not what the Corvette is about. Because of this, when I drove my car for the first time, I was dissapointed in the power but blown away by the cornering and brakes.
So let me get this straight, it can do both well, but for the first time in Chevrolet's history it can corner? Is this explicitly with the C5 generation and up?
The C5 and up were a major advancement in cornering largely to due being much more rigid and several hundred pounds lighter than the C4. But it's not the first time Corvette's have been good cornering cars for their day. The '63 was very advanced with 4 wheel independant suspension and 4 wheel disk brakes including 4 piston front calipers.
Problem was the design was not improved on at all until 1984 and was far behind the times by then. Then the C4 came out in 1984 and was one again very advanced boasting higher lateral G's than any production car on the planet at the time. But once again, no real improvement until 1997 with the C5. The bad handling rap you seem to believe in is a result of these long time delays between advancements, not that older Corvettes couldn't complete in the cornering department when the model was new.
All of these traits are absolutely crucial for track racing, however, for the daily driven Corvette, the Standard Coupe is more applicable. This fact was stated on the Review of the Z06 on Top Gear, and the same conclusion was made there as well
"for the daily driven Corvette, the Standard Coupe is more applicable"
True. But for daily driving, the Cobalt is more applicable than the standard coupe Corvette. Still doesn't mean the Corvette or even the Z06 is a particularly poor daily driver or that I would rather have the Cobalt.
"S is extraordinary and the vette is simply ordinary"
Can you explain how an ordinary car kicks an extraordinary car's ass at the race track, at acceleration, braking, cornering, top speed, and interior room while getting equal or better MPG?
"I think you flame here cuz you make a payment on a car you don't really want"
Think again. None of my posts are flames and perhaps you need to watch my videos. I'm running with GT3s in my daily driver with street tires, a have the quickest lap time on youtube for two tracks, I average 26mpg, and my car payments are $378/month. Can you say the same?
"I'm running with GT3s in my daily driver with street tires, I have the quickest lap time on youtube for two tracks, I average 26mpg, Can you say the same?" -Me
#1 I don't ever remember commenting on this... lol... However I will add, that attaining 20+ mpg while "racing" is remarkable, and racing a daily driver isn't the most intelligent thing to do... "why couldn't you come into work today" well i accidentally put my vette into a wall at laguna seca" lol
"racing a daily driver isn't the most intelligent thing to do... "why couldn't you come into work today" well i accidentally put my vette into a wall at laguna seca""
Just because I daily drive it does not mean that it's my only car and only transportation. But if I do put the car into a wall, I may have to take a day off anyway in mourning.
"I guess GM made an engineering choice to only produce 71 Hp MAX Per L too?"
Yes. It allows the engine to be cheap, light, reliable, externally small, fuel efficient, and still make over 500hp with gobs of torque. You know, the things that matter unlike hp/liter? What exactly is wrong with that engineering choice?
"Cheap? are you serious? A brand new vette motor is ~$13,000"
Yes, the LS7 is very cheap to manufacture compared to all other 500+hp stock engines out there. Your price is to buy a GM crate LS7. All other "vette motors" are a lot cheaper. And with the aftermarket, we can get above 500hp much, much cheaper than that with other LS-x engines.
Top gear is perhaps the best car review show in the world, The S2000 was voted #1 for 04', 05', and 06. and btw the C6 and S are identical MPG according to wiki.
I think I can summise things like this: Honda, Toyota, BMW, et al, have a distinct advantage because they have long ago established that gas-guzzling cars will not be a part of any continued future landscape. Name any type of technology that GM, Ford or Chrysler has pioneered in the last 20 years.
...If you recall, horsepower went down because there was a global push for cleaner cars, much the same as today. If we are still committed to big V8's and V6's, then how much behind the foreign mfg's are we?
...Now, how many S2000's and Hondas do they sell here. There is an obvious global demand for their (Japanese andGerman) tech than our own tech. The problem is we still think it's the '60's and are still building cars that way! Isn't this the same type scenario that we faced during the fuel shortage of the '70's?
"we still think it's the '60's and are still building cars that way!"
Wrong. Modern cars are built completely different from the '60's with completely different prioritires and nature. The current 911 has more in common with the '68 model than the current Corvette does with the '68 model. By FAAARR. Are you putting down Porsche too? I have had the privledge of driving and working on many '60's cars and modern cars. Clearly you have not. They are COMPLETELY different beasts.
"If we are still committed to big V8's and V6's, then how much behind the foreign mfg's are we?"
WTF are you talking about? Have you seen the mileage Benz's get? You act like all Japanese cars get great mileage and all American cars get horrible which is total BS. My Z06 gets better MPG than the the Supra Turbo and the S2000 and the same as an STi. Didn't you know the C6Z06 is the first 500hp car with no gas guzzler tax? No German car can do that. Ditch the assumptions and get a clue.
As someone on another post regarding similar arguement stated: "torque is subjective, some care for it, while others don't..."
Simply put, big torque is a natural by-product of a larger dispalcement, not engineering. Think about this for a moment, how many Corvettes do we sell in Japan? Or GM, or U.S. mfg cars for that matter?...
"how many Corvettes...in Japan?...how many S2000's...here."
Japan is a miniscule car market not worth GM developing and marketing for. They don't even make a right hand drive corvette. Plus, they have rediculous taxes against auto imports designed to disrupt foriegn sales, plus they tax based on displacement instead of fuel mileage and emissions, another stab at imports designed to foil sales. But if you think their are no Japanese who would love to own a Corvette, you are very clueless.
...I'm comparing Japanese and German tech to North American tech here. And it never fails that our performance cars are either large disp or force induction.
...no variable valve timing, or var volume induct, etc. Look at the facts: S2000 is 2.0 L I4, NSX is 3.2L V6, M3 is 3.2L I6, all sub 3.5 L motors and all the highly-respected globally. When top North American cars are mentioned, their 5.0L V8's or bigger. (I'm not hating, just saying let's start paying attn to technology for once.
Z06 guy: no one disputes a fair comparison when one is presented! The problem is that Z06 and Mustang GT are w/out a fair Japanese counterpart, not for lack of ability, but because they don't see the need to produce large disp cars to produce power. Your viewpoint is what I think ails the North American domestic car market. We Americans focus on large engines, light bodies, but where's the innovation...
"Z06 and Mustang GT are w/out a fair Japanese counterpart, not for lack of ability, but because they don't see the need to produce large disp cars to produce power"
They CHOOSE to make smaller motors, right? Comparisons are NOT based on displacement, they are based on class and price range. If displacement proves to make for a better all around car than other methods of making power, so be it. If you think GM is incapable OHCs and VVT, you are completely clueless. They CHOOSE not to.
"Your viewpoint is what I think ails the North American domestic car market."
There is nothing wrong with domestic sports cars. Financial difficulty is in other areas. YOUR viewpoint is the problem. Thinking complexity is more important than performance. Thinking that less displacement is better for some reason. Would you rather have a 1.8 that makes 185hp or a 2.0 that makes 200hp? Of course the 2.0, right? Ooops! The 2.0 makes less hp/liter so it must be an inferior engine, right?
You want innovation? Transverse mounted composite monoleafs to reduce weight and lower the center of gravity, rear mounted transaxel for 50/50 weight distribution. Dry sump oiling system to ensure oil at high G loads. Heads up dislay. Muffler bypass butterflies. Hollow titanium valves and titanium rods, offset rockers to allow larger ports, torque+gearing for good MPG. Aluminum framerail to reduce weight, fly by wire throttle, need I go on? I can.
a better comparison would be s2000 vs Dodge SRT-4, without addt'l mods (even though SRT-4 is both a bigger motor with force induction, i'll allow it). i've seen the videos and s2000 wins without fail. it is a special car. truth be told, it is a legendary motor- it's even in the guiness book of records.
04' S2000= 1/4 mile is 14.00 , however I have seen slips on stock S's that show 13.9 w/ an experienced driver (rare though)... This isn't a bad comparison considering added weight of strengthening a convertible body are equal to a coup w/ doors. Smart consumers purchase the whole package not a Neon w/ a turbo and a seat... ya know?
"Smart consumers purchase the whole package not a Neon w/ a turbo and a seat... ya know?"
Yeah, smart people do buy the whole package. Like something with more space, better fuel economy, and lots faster than an S2000. That would be a Corvette. S2000 is NOT the whole package, it's a cramped, no torque, poor MPG, handling queen.
BOTH the S2000 and C6 (never cared for the C5) are excellent cars. Both have great finishes inside and out. Different price brackets though, which makes your point null and void, because I was comparing the finished product of an SRT and an S. you might as well compare the Vette and a Ferrari F430 at that rate...
...Give credit where due, Toyota is close to, and WILL become the #1 auto maker in the world, and Honda is the #1 engine mfg for a reason! stop embarrassing americans please!
i'm an american, proud, but a realist. so anyone that would compare a naturally aspirated S2000 2.0 L I4 with a nat aspir Z06 5.7 or 7.0 L V8 is saying this: our vettes, and domestic sportscars can only compete w/ smaller engined imported cars with superior technology. anytime we talk about comparisons, our cars are usually twice as big in displacement as the imports- and that is utterly embarrasing! ...
No dumbass, we'll pit the Z06 which is maybe the fourth fastest car from America against any factory car from any brand from Japan in all their history and it's still faster. Anybody with actual track day expirience with the two cars will tell you the Z06 does not just "compete" with the S2000, it utterly destroys it. There is no comparison.
Two great cars. Different classes. I'm sorry, if Corvette & it's fanboys are the only thing that will save GM let them be. I understand how a lot of ppl dis Honda cause it's a well known & respected company. Not just a car company, but the best engine company in the entire world.
EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!The c6 and s2k are good cars, but at the end all cars break down. Now we all know american cars suck.I know used to own 3 and they suck ass now i drive imports one of then a s2k.I got the money and ill choose the s2k over the c6 anytime.STUPID REDNECKS!!!
im nominating you are the biggest douche in the universe.
"I know used to own 3 and they suck ass now i drive imports one of then a s2k"(douche). People with money know how to write a clear and complete sentence ya tard ass!
with high boost. even then it may have issues. the s2k has no chance from a dig though. 0-60 the z06 has the s2k no matter what. you just cant get a 3.5 0-60 out of a turbo s2k without slicks and at least 500bhp
that is MY s2000 in that video. the only reason i halfway kept up (well actually more like 1/10 kept up) is bc i had a 75 shot. now i blew the motor and am rebuilding it. i would take a Z06 over a s2000 anyday. and actually, the s2000 is NOT worth the money. i love my car, but for 34k i could have a used bmw e46 m3, a new evo ix, a used nsx, a c5 Z06, etc. i bought it because it was available :)
"C6 Z06 is a very fast car and GM's best sports car ever but you cant compare it to a S2k! "
You are so right, the S2000 is so far below the Z06 its not even funny. You are a complete dipshit and shame all import owners, give respect where it is due.
Do the world a favor and drive your 4 cylinder off a cliff.
Ok this isn't going to turn into a "my engine is bigger so its better" argument. There are many points where I would take the S2000 over the Z06, as well as points where I would take the z06 (a lot more points lol) over the s2000.
*yawn* MAYBE for sale by the year 2012 and NOT for $70k. It will cost at least as much as the new ZR-1 with 650hp and less than 3000 lbs which will completely embarrass the NSX just like old Z06s completely embarrass the old NSX. I love how history repeats itself. Poor Honda. At least 7 years behind GM in performance.
Behind in performance? The NSX was the first production car to have all aluminum frame and titanium connecting rods, back in 1990. The previous Vette performance model was the ZR-1 (debut in 1990) and had a price of $59k MSRP (in 1990, in 1995 it was $66300 MSRP) and only 375 hp from its 5.7L V8. The NSX made 270 hp from its 3.0L V6. Oh and Honda doesn't hire Europeans (Lotus in the ZR1s case) to make their motors better. Go diaf. Oh and the Vette has to fight off the new Nissan GTR.
Yes, behind in performance. Aluminum frame, titanium rods, and hp/liter are not performance. They are means to achieve performance, yet still fell well short of the old Z06 that was made at the same time as the NSX. So far, what info we have on the GTR from Sport Auto, it's a tad slower than the three year old Z06 and will of course be completely raped by the ZR-1. And the GTR is not even from Honda. You have to pit all of Japan against the corvette and still you fall short.
darethas, the day i consider suicide is when i buy a Chevrolet over a Honda. The C6 Z06 is a very fast car and GM's best sports car ever but you cant compare it to a S2k! For the money, the S2k is the most exiting car on the track, it put the NSX out of production cause it is just as fast for half the price!
02ZO6'FOOL'!! The 07 Zo6 is a $70k car with leaf springs, the S2000 is $34k, big diff buddy. If Honda build a $70k S2k, it would make the Zo6 look like a american piece of shit on the track!! You really need to stop talking about cars and go hang out with your dad!! People like you is why our american cars suck!! Your the moron!!
Honda DID build a sports car than cost over $70k and the Z06 completely RAPES it. You Honda fags are soooooo fucking gay with your, "if honda did..." weak ass excuses.
The NSX in the 90's was roughly the same speed as corvettes of the same period. My problem here is that if the speed sucked for the NSX then the speed sucked for the Corvette since they are basically the same speed wise... comparing modern technology to past is ignorant.
let honda make 7 liters well see how good the z06 is compared to engineering yby honda. 7 liters to only make 500hp? kinda sad in my book, but hey its fast
Nobody is stopping them moron. The Z06 also out corners and out stops the S2000. Explain that. It's GM "engineering" and has nothing to do with displacement.

the S2000 times u posted are probably from a N/A car making 250whp or less. Give the S2 the same power to weight ration as any Z06 and it is a different story. I do love the Z06's and Z07 they are the best car Americas ever made.
sfwdcivic 3 years ago
So you want to compare a stock car to a highly modded one? Why? Also show me proof it would be faster with equal power to weight. FYI, it wouldn't. It's still on skinny tires with poor grip compared to the Z06 and just "giving" it more power would only make that worse. Check the skidpad numbers.
600ft skidpad
S2000= .90g
Z06=1.0g
Sorry, but the S2000 needs more than just an equal power to weight ratio to equal a Z06.
01Z06guy 3 years ago
The S2000 CR is a better more evenly match. It can pull just under or up to1g as well. That shows what minor suspension and tire upgrade/changes can do.
sfwdcivic 3 years ago
CarandDriver has compared the S2000 CR and Z06 on the same track with the same drivers. Virginia International Raceway on their "Lightning Lap" test.
VIR
Z06= 2:58.2
S2000 CR= 3:15.0
17 seconds per lap is not pretty. Not even the CR can corner with a Z06 and it's on some very nice Bridgestone Potenza RE070 extreme performance summer tires while the Z06 is on runflats. Z06 is just a better performance platform all around.
01Z06guy 3 years ago
I dunno, for the price of the Z06, one could slap a turbo on the S2000 CR model and call it more equal, and still spend less money. The arguments could go on forever. We are looking at 2 liters vs 7 liters. Shouldn't the 7 liter car be several factors faster than the 2 liter car? It's not. It's faster, but I don't see where the extra 5 liters went. Maybe Honda is just being polite by not making a 7 liter engine? The Z06 is an amazing machine, respect to a fast car. I had a ZR1 back in the 90s.
chromarium 2 years ago
Did you even read my comments? I proved the Z06 OUT CORNERS the S2000. What does that have to do with liters? Also, the Z06 IS several factors faster. We are talking about a 14.0 second 1/4 mile car vs an 11.5 1/4 mile car. That's definitely several factors faster. Did you know they get about the same gas mileage? Yeah, so where did those 5 less liters go in the economy department?
01Z06guy 2 years ago
an s2000 and a z06 both with the same power, s2000 would prolly beat it.
Dart00Z 2 years ago
1) They don't have the same power, so your post is meaningless.
2) If they had the same power and the same wieght, the Z06 would still rape the S2000 because it has soo much more grip and braking power.
01Z06guy 2 years ago
well you were earlier comparing lap times from a s2k to a z06. the z06 has much more power so even if it handled worse than the s2k, it would still get a better lap time from the power advantage it has. grip and braking power is easily fixed.
Dart00Z 2 years ago
Clearly you didn't read enough as I also proved the Z06 corners better than the S2000 anyway. Why are you trying to just add 300hp and add extra grip and braking to an S2000 to compare to a stock Z06? Only retards compare modded cars to stock ones.
01Z06guy 2 years ago
hey i prefer a well built car to a car that some old rich dude just has the money to buy and cant do any work himself on it. its how u build not how you buy. and modded cars earn more respect. u cant buy respect.
Dart00Z 2 years ago
01Z06guy 2 years ago
im no ricer. and you are very ignorant, meaning stupid but not knowing that your stupid. its ok. your mostly comparing a car thats 70k to a car thats half the price. so a modded s2k should be a fair comparison. anyway, i sold my civic and i have a 07 nismo 350z.does that make me a ricer? im going to mod it too, so i gues yes i must be a ricer. i enjoy modding cars. btw you sound "supergay" trying to defend your precious z06. your worse than a cocky mustang owner.
Dart00Z 2 years ago
You didn't watch my ricer video. Go watch it and report back. I don't need to "defend my Z06." It wins. You need to make up super gay excuses because you don't like the fact that it wins. Speaking of ignorant, you are now claiming you wasted a lot of money buying a car slower than my 9 year old Corvette. Was that supposed to impress me? Major FAIL.
01Z06guy 2 years ago
lol. your 9 year old corvette wont outhandle my nismo unless its modded.
Dart00Z 2 years ago
Actually, it does corner faster even stock and on 10 year old tire technology. Here is the recorded lateral G data for both cars from Road and Track.
2007 Nismo 350Z= .96g
2001 Corvette Z06= 1.00g
Never mind the fact that my car is also a full second quicker in the 1/4 mile. Both cars have also been tested by car rags at Willow Springs. Sorry, mine was faster stock to stock.
Nine year old Corvette > Nismo 350Z
You wasted a lot of money because of your Japan obsession.
01Z06guy 2 years ago
lol. did you know skidpad numbers dont really mean anything. skidpad numbers come down to what kind of tire your using. lol. not so much the car, i can easily put sticky tires on the 350 and get a skidpat rating of over 1.00.
if i race the z and u race ur vette on the track, i bet id win since i have a lot of experience with autox, thats pretty much why i got the z. fwd was lacking and i needed more power. the z has 305 hp, but ill add more.
Dart00Z 2 years ago
You are completely retarded and ignorant. Your Nislow could only achieve .96g on Bridgestone Potenza RE050As. A UTQG 140 tire. My car achieved a 1.00g rating on UTQG 220 tires with ten year old tire technology! Do you even know what that means? It means YOUR car came with shorter life, stickier tires than mine and mine still corners faster because it's just a much better chassis. Put slicks on my car and it will spank yours on slicks even harded than it does stock to stock.

"z has 305 hp, but ill add more"
01Z06guy 2 years ago
u go quite a distance defending your corvette. lol. and anyway a vette is chevys best car. its thier supercar. ur comparing it to a 350z. lol. id love to see the look on ur face after i smash you and u went thru all the hard work of finding this research. haha.
it takes chevys best car to beat nissans sports coupe.
maybe i should just get a supra instead, its faster than your vette.
Dart00Z 2 years ago
"u go quite a distance defending your corvette"
Nope. I just go straight to the facts. Facts speak the truth, unlike the false assumptions spouted by a bias and ignorant person.
01Z06guy 2 years ago
"id love to see the look on ur face after i smash you"
So after I prove with facts that my nine years old corvette is indeed a superior performance car than your 2007 Nismo, and I correct your bogus assuption that you have more track expirience, all you have left is to dream about winning an imaginary race against me? Okay. Whatever helps you sleep better.

"maybe i should just get a supra instead, its faster than your vette"
You're just piling on the FAIL, the more you post. Did you not watch my videos where I directly compete with a 6-speed turbo Supra? Here, let me quote the owner of the Supra:
01Z06guy 2 years ago
"Z06s are clearly dominant on the road course. Supras need much more modification to keep up with a Z05 which is lighter and has more available power. Supras can be modified easily and can be very fast in the straights but will always struggle with it's weight and turbo lag. Also turbocharged cars are more inclided to overheat. I'm happy keeping pace with 01Z06guy."
-turbo Supra owner
01Z06guy 2 years ago
lol. you fail.
the supra is holds the record for the fastest car in the standing mile.
it beat twin turbo lambos, vipers, highly modified corvettes, and supercars.
do some research, a modified supra is faster than anything you could ever build. even with tons of money. you fail.
supra is pure japanese muscle. lol.
Dart00Z 2 years ago
lol. you fail.
01Z06guy 2 years ago
That's not even getting into the idiocy of comparing a modded car to a stock one or trying to explain to someone who does not race how gigantic a 17 second per lap advantage really is. It really doesn't get "several factors faster" any more than that.
01Z06guy 2 years ago

xxtrustxx 4 years ago
So you are saying the S2000 has 440+ hp? The AP2 S2000 is a 2.2l engine producing 238 horsepower. If you how math works, divide 238 by 2.2.

72defender 4 years ago
exactly. The same guy that lives down the street from you and has been a musclehead his whole life is now trading in that gas guzzler for a money saver. Gas will never be under 2 dollars again, its time to start thinking about the future
darethas 4 years ago
"Gas will never be under 2 dollars again, its time to start thinking about the future"
Why is this the Corvette's problem when nobody seems to mind the poor mileage of Japanese performance models? The Corvette has a much brighter fuel efficiency future than the GTR, STi, or EVO. Just being 4 (or 6) cylinders and small displacement is no garuantee of fuel efficiency. Those cars continue to get bigger, heavier, and more powerful.
01Z06guy 3 years ago
Z06 guy: you have a point on the tariffs/taxes that Asian countries apply to larger disp cars- which, in effect, disrupts foreign cars from entering. Though controversial to some, I can see their point. Historically, most large motor cars have poorer emissions ratings and to combat importing these cars, they are forcing mfg's to think 'Is A V12, V10 and V8 really necessary.'
72defender 4 years ago
"tariffs/taxes that Asian countries apply to larger disp cars...I can see their point. Historically, most large motor cars have poorer emissions ratings"
True, but the corvette is living proof that displacement does not always mean greater fuel consuption and emissions. So if the goal is to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, why not tax based on fuel consumption and emissions directly instead of displacement that may or may not be worse depending on a bunch of other factors?
01Z06guy 3 years ago
on an aside, can anyone on this post substantiate or dismiss the rumor that Toyota and Lotus helped tune the C5/C6 corvettes. I have heard smatterings here and their on various post.
72defender 4 years ago
I called it way back then when Honda made the decision to sell the 100,000 engines that GM would use their "new" V6's on the Saturn Line first and tweak the hell out of them until they got it right and then boast it on their main GM products as theirs.
72defender 4 years ago
...again, please talk about this innovation you touched on.
72defender 4 years ago
"And please tell me about how many engines have been bought from GM?"
Ever heard of the companies called Ultima or SSC? LSx engines are swapped into anything they can fit into. There is a reason for that. I've never heard about anybody making money selling kits to put Honda engines into RX7's or Porsches. Clearly, you feel the need to chance S2000 vs. Corvette into GM vs Honda. Why can't you say on topic?
01Z06guy 3 years ago
Cars that Utilize a Honda motor, Ariel Atom and K-1 attack roadster, theres no doubt that an LS setup is solid, hence the use in the GTM, but for light weight applications a Honda motor has advantages.
redbaron520 3 years ago
"for light weight applications a Honda motor has advantages"
Agreed. But you have to be talking about extremely light wieght. After all, with a curb weight of 2496 lbs, the GTM is not exactly what you would call heavy.
01Z06guy 3 years ago
01 Z06 guy: GM produces the Pontiac Solstice/ Saturn Sky are current GM attempts to tap into the roadster market. That was the opportunity to show off their engineering 'ability' by producing an 'S2000 beater' and all they were able to achieve was a 4 cyl 2.4 L I-4 DOHC SMPI engine rated at 173 HP. Want more: to achieve more they had to resort to F/I to get 260HP. All this to beat 1999 Japanese technlogy in 2007.
72defender 4 years ago
"Pontiac Solstice/ Saturn Sky are current GM attempts to tap into the roadster market. That was the opportunity to show off their engineering 'ability' by producing an 'S2000 beater'"
And they did exactly that.
Sky redline= 260hp = 14.0 1/4 mile = $29175
S2000= 240hp = 14.0 1/4 mile = $34300
The 173hp version is clearly aimed at the MX-5 and only costs $20,490. I have been on track with a turbo Solstice and was shocked by it's ability. It's no joke.
01Z06guy 3 years ago
It's no doubt the GXP and redline offer a great bang for the buck, but the finish work of GM's roadsters interiors weren't something I could live with. For Sub $25,000 the C5 is #1 imo. Great interior, and superior straight line acceleration.

The F20 & F22 Engines are award winning motors... winning 5 times in the 1.8 - 2.0 L category... the Corvette engine? nothing, why? BMW and Ferrari own 4.0L and above! perhaps you should take a look at the new LS3... Trade in your Z06 and get a normal vette, hell its putting out more power than the C5 Z06...
redbaron520 3 years ago
"perhaps you should take a look at the new LS3... Trade in your Z06 and get a normal vette, hell its putting out more power than the C5 Z06"
You have a point. The LS3 makes more power stock and makes a lot more power with mods than my LS6, but the base vette is still not yet beating C5Z06 lap times. And that's what I care about. Besides, the new LS3 vette, although reasonably priced for a new car, is still more than double what I paid for my C5Z06.
01Z06guy 3 years ago
I can't think of one person that would buy the base vette... If you have the disposible income to even consider a vette then you get the Z51, and maby the Navigation, however on the same note, I can't think of one person that would buy the Z06 with as much power as the normal vette makes, thats like justifying $1,000 for every additional Horsepower
redbaron520 3 years ago
"I can't think of one person that would buy the Z06 with as much power as the normal vette makes"
It's not just about power. The Z06 has a more track ready suspension than the Z51, it has bigger brakes, bigger wheels and tires, dry sump, trans and diff coolers, and STILL weighs ~100 lbs lighter than the coupe. I think the chassis is stiffer too.
01Z06guy 3 years ago
all true statements, however, the purchase of a Z51 coupe, makes more sense, dollar for dollar, it destroys the Z06, which is the case for many supercars, but if the justification is there to spend 70- 100k then I'd have to choose the Viper, simply because of its status.
redbaron520 3 years ago
The new 600hp Vipers are also proven to beat the Z06 on the track. They just are not as nice on the street with as much comfort/convenience. The choices always come down to your personal priorities, budget, and preference. That's why which is "better" arguments are stupid and why I try to stick to arguments like performance that are factual and can be proven.

01Z06guy 3 years ago
Impressive, I knew the 996 was good, but wow, I wonder what mods it had done, I know bigger Turbo's and/or a Boost controller makes a fast car into a screamer
redbaron520 3 years ago
Was the C5 the first time an engine had been mounted behind the front axle?
redbaron520 3 years ago
I don't think so. Not sure about C4, but on the old C3 cars, the engine sat well behind the front axel. Easy since the hood was a mile long. :) C5 was the first Corvette to have a rear mounted transaxel which was the major part of greater balance. As well as a much lighter, all aluminum LS-x engine.
01Z06guy 3 years ago
If an agreement can be met that the Corvette is first and foremost a straight line car, then power is top priority, which makes the LS3>LS7 $ for $
redbaron520 3 years ago
"If an agreement can be met that the Corvette is first and foremost a straight line car"
But it's not!!! I have owned and driven many sports cars and many fast cars. I'm telling you that my C5Z06 is EQUAL parts power, cornering, and brakes. People usually just talk about straight line speed, 1/4 mile times, and hp, but that's not what the Corvette is about. Because of this, when I drove my car for the first time, I was dissapointed in the power but blown away by the cornering and brakes.
01Z06guy 3 years ago
So let me get this straight, it can do both well, but for the first time in Chevrolet's history it can corner? Is this explicitly with the C5 generation and up?
redbaron520 3 years ago
The C5 and up were a major advancement in cornering largely to due being much more rigid and several hundred pounds lighter than the C4. But it's not the first time Corvette's have been good cornering cars for their day. The '63 was very advanced with 4 wheel independant suspension and 4 wheel disk brakes including 4 piston front calipers.
01Z06guy 3 years ago
Problem was the design was not improved on at all until 1984 and was far behind the times by then. Then the C4 came out in 1984 and was one again very advanced boasting higher lateral G's than any production car on the planet at the time. But once again, no real improvement until 1997 with the C5. The bad handling rap you seem to believe in is a result of these long time delays between advancements, not that older Corvettes couldn't complete in the cornering department when the model was new.
01Z06guy 3 years ago
All of these traits are absolutely crucial for track racing, however, for the daily driven Corvette, the Standard Coupe is more applicable. This fact was stated on the Review of the Z06 on Top Gear, and the same conclusion was made there as well
redbaron520 3 years ago
"for the daily driven Corvette, the Standard Coupe is more applicable"
True. But for daily driving, the Cobalt is more applicable than the standard coupe Corvette. Still doesn't mean the Corvette or even the Z06 is a particularly poor daily driver or that I would rather have the Cobalt.
01Z06guy 3 years ago
"S is extraordinary and the vette is simply ordinary"
Can you explain how an ordinary car kicks an extraordinary car's ass at the race track, at acceleration, braking, cornering, top speed, and interior room while getting equal or better MPG?

#1 I don't ever remember commenting on this... lol... However I will add, that attaining 20+ mpg while "racing" is remarkable, and racing a daily driver isn't the most intelligent thing to do... "why couldn't you come into work today" well i accidentally put my vette into a wall at laguna seca" lol

"attaining 20+ mpg while "racing" is remarkable"
Haha! No, no, I exclude track days from my mileage calculations. My car is definitely a gas hog at the track.

"displacement is an engineering choice, therefor torque is a result of engineering choice."
I guess GM made an engineering choice to only produce 71 Hp MAX Per L too? If they only had 2 L thats a wopping 140 Hp... Simply amazing! rofl
redbaron520 4 years ago
"I guess GM made an engineering choice to only produce 71 Hp MAX Per L too?"
Yes. It allows the engine to be cheap, light, reliable, externally small, fuel efficient, and still make over 500hp with gobs of torque. You know, the things that matter unlike hp/liter? What exactly is wrong with that engineering choice?
01Z06guy 3 years ago
Cheap? are you serious? A brand new vette motor is ~$13,000 roughly
redbaron520 3 years ago
"Cheap? are you serious? A brand new vette motor is ~$13,000"
Yes, the LS7 is very cheap to manufacture compared to all other 500+hp stock engines out there. Your price is to buy a GM crate LS7. All other "vette motors" are a lot cheaper. And with the aftermarket, we can get above 500hp much, much cheaper than that with other LS-x engines.

I think I can summise things like this: Honda, Toyota, BMW, et al, have a distinct advantage because they have long ago established that gas-guzzling cars will not be a part of any continued future landscape. Name any type of technology that GM, Ford or Chrysler has pioneered in the last 20 years.

"Honda, Toyota, BMW...have long ago established that gas-guzzling cars will not be a part of any continued future landscape"
2008 Honda S2000 (237hp)= 18c/25h
1994 Supra TT (300hp)= 17c/24h
2006 BMW M3 (333hp)= 16c/24h
2002 Z06 (405hp)= 18c/28h
Need I bring up the MPG of non sports cars like the Toyota Sequoa?

GM off the top of my head:

...If you recall, horsepower went down because there was a global push for cleaner cars, much the same as today. If we are still committed to big V8's and V6's, then how much behind the foreign mfg's are we?
72defender 4 years ago
...Now, how many S2000's and Hondas do they sell here. There is an obvious global demand for their (Japanese andGerman) tech than our own tech. The problem is we still think it's the '60's and are still building cars that way! Isn't this the same type scenario that we faced during the fuel shortage of the '70's?
72defender 4 years ago
"we still think it's the '60's and are still building cars that way!"
Wrong. Modern cars are built completely different from the '60's with completely different prioritires and nature. The current 911 has more in common with the '68 model than the current Corvette does with the '68 model. By FAAARR. Are you putting down Porsche too? I have had the privledge of driving and working on many '60's cars and modern cars. Clearly you have not. They are COMPLETELY different beasts.
01Z06guy 4 years ago
"If we are still committed to big V8's and V6's, then how much behind the foreign mfg's are we?"
WTF are you talking about? Have you seen the mileage Benz's get? You act like all Japanese cars get great mileage and all American cars get horrible which is total BS. My Z06 gets better MPG than the the Supra Turbo and the S2000 and the same as an STi. Didn't you know the C6Z06 is the first 500hp car with no gas guzzler tax? No German car can do that. Ditch the assumptions and get a clue.
01Z06guy 4 years ago
As someone on another post regarding similar arguement stated: "torque is subjective, some care for it, while others don't..."
Simply put, big torque is a natural by-product of a larger dispalcement, not engineering. Think about this for a moment, how many Corvettes do we sell in Japan? Or GM, or U.S. mfg cars for that matter?...
72defender 4 years ago
"big torque is a natural by-product of a larger dispalcement, not engineering"
And displacement is an engineering choice, therefor torque is a result of engineering choice.
01Z06guy 4 years ago
"how many Corvettes...in Japan?...how many S2000's...here."
Japan is a miniscule car market not worth GM developing and marketing for. They don't even make a right hand drive corvette. Plus, they have rediculous taxes against auto imports designed to disrupt foriegn sales, plus they tax based on displacement instead of fuel mileage and emissions, another stab at imports designed to foil sales. But if you think their are no Japanese who would love to own a Corvette, you are very clueless.
01Z06guy 4 years ago
...I'm comparing Japanese and German tech to North American tech here. And it never fails that our performance cars are either large disp or force induction.
72defender 4 years ago
...no variable valve timing, or var volume induct, etc.

72defender 4 years ago
"Z06 and Mustang GT are w/out a fair Japanese counterpart, not for lack of ability, but because they don't see the need to produce large disp cars to produce power"
They CHOOSE to make smaller motors, right? Comparisons are NOT based on displacement, they are based on class and price range. If displacement proves to make for a better all around car than other methods of making power, so be it. If you think GM is incapable OHCs and VVT, you are completely clueless. They CHOOSE not to.
01Z06guy 4 years ago
"Your viewpoint is what I think ails the North American domestic car market."
There is nothing wrong with domestic sports cars. Financial difficulty is in other areas. YOUR viewpoint is the problem. Thinking complexity is more important than performance. Thinking that less displacement is better for some reason. Would you rather have a 1.8 that makes 185hp or a 2.0 that makes 200hp? Of course the 2.0, right? Ooops! The 2.0 makes less hp/liter so it must be an inferior engine, right?
01Z06guy 4 years ago
"We Americans focus on large engines, light bodies, but where's the innovation... "
We Americans know that lots of power in a light car makes it a great sports car.
01Z06guy 4 years ago

72defender 4 years ago
"a better comparison would be s2000 vs Dodge SRT-4"
Why? Because the in order for the Japanese car to compete, it has to be a real sports car vs a four door compact and cost more than 50% more?
'04 SRT-4= 13.9 1/4 mile. $20,450msrp
'04 S2000= 14.2 1/4 mile, $32,800msrp
Sorry, try again.
01Z06guy 4 years ago
04' S2000= 1/4 mile is 14.00 , however I have seen slips on stock S's that show 13.9 w/ an experienced driver (rare though)... This isn't a bad comparison considering added weight of strengthening a convertible body are equal to a coup w/ doors. Smart consumers purchase the whole package not a Neon w/ a turbo and a seat... ya know?
redbaron520 4 years ago
"Smart consumers purchase the whole package not a Neon w/ a turbo and a seat... ya know?"
Yeah, smart people do buy the whole package. Like something with more space, better fuel economy, and lots faster than an S2000. That would be a Corvette. S2000 is NOT the whole package, it's a cramped, no torque, poor MPG, handling queen.
01Z06guy 4 years ago
BOTH the S2000 and C6 (never cared for the C5) are excellent cars. Both have great finishes inside and out. Different price brackets though, which makes your point null and void, because I was comparing the finished product of an SRT and an S. you might as well compare the Vette and a Ferrari F430 at that rate...
redbaron520 4 years ago
...Give credit where due, Toyota is close to, and WILL become the #1 auto maker in the world, and Honda is the #1 engine mfg for a reason! stop embarrassing americans please!
72defender 4 years ago
i'm an american, proud, but a realist. so anyone that would compare a naturally aspirated S2000 2.0 L I4 with a nat aspir Z06 5.7 or 7.0 L V8 is saying this: our vettes, and domestic sportscars can only compete w/ smaller engined imported cars with superior technology. anytime we talk about comparisons, our cars are usually twice as big in displacement as the imports- and that is utterly embarrasing! ...
72defender 4 years ago
No dumbass, we'll pit the Z06 which is maybe the fourth fastest car from America against any factory car from any brand from Japan in all their history and it's still faster. Anybody with actual track day expirience with the two cars will tell you the Z06 does not just "compete" with the S2000, it utterly destroys it. There is no comparison.
01Z06guy 4 years ago
Two great cars. Different classes. I'm sorry, if Corvette & it's fanboys are the only thing that will save GM let them be. I understand how a lot of ppl dis Honda cause it's a well known & respected company. Not just a car company, but the best engine company in the entire world.

that is MY s2000 in that video. the only reason i halfway kept up (well actually more like 1/10 kept up) is bc i had a 75 shot. now i blew the motor and am rebuilding it. i would take a Z06 over a s2000 anyday. and actually, the s2000 is NOT worth the money. i love my car, but for 34k i could have a used bmw e46 m3, a new evo ix, a used nsx, a c5 Z06, etc. i bought it because it was available :)

Ok this isn't going to turn into a "my engine is bigger so its better" argument. There are many points where I would take the S2000 over the Z06, as well as points where I would take the z06 (a lot more points lol) over the s2000.

But Honda is engineering the new NSX with a 5liter V10 that outputs 500hp, and revs to 10,000rpms!! Now i will spend my $70k on that buddy!! :)
tonhon1 4 years ago
*yawn* MAYBE for sale by the year 2012 and NOT for $70k. It will cost at least as much as the new ZR-1 with 650hp and less than 3000 lbs which will completely embarrass the NSX just like old Z06s completely embarrass the old NSX. I love how history repeats itself. Poor Honda. At least 7 years behind GM in performance.
01Z06guy 4 years ago
Behind in performance? The NSX was the first production car to have all aluminum frame and titanium connecting rods, back in 1990. The previous Vette performance model was the ZR-1 (debut in 1990) and had a price of $59k MSRP (in 1990, in 1995 it was $66300 MSRP) and only 375 hp from its 5.7L V8. The NSX made 270 hp from its 3.0L V6. Oh and Honda doesn't hire Europeans (Lotus in the ZR1s case) to make their motors better. Go diaf. Oh and the Vette has to fight off the new Nissan GTR.
jpmoney7 4 years ago

The NSX in the 90's was roughly the same speed as corvettes of the same period. My problem here is that if the speed sucked for the NSX then the speed sucked for the Corvette since they are basically the same speed wise... comparing modern technology to past is ignorant.
