all you guys arguing about ERAU and so forth are being gay. I go to ERAU in Daytona. And hear this type of jib jabber bullshit everyday. You get out of it what you put into it. End of story. If you're driven enough, you'll get a job just like everyone else. Now everyone shut the fuck up, quit being such Riddle nerds, and watch the hot girl suck in oxygen depleted air. fucking hell.
interesting opinion. what have i said that makes me uneducated and what do you know that makes you so educated?
i didn't say that an ERAU grad with 200 hrs will get hired before a 1500 hr ATP. Obviously, many factors affect how successful a candidate will be but in some cases having gone through the training at such institutions ultimately gives those candidates the edge over others and I do know some instances of this.
I meant getting educated on the topic. Just ask real airline pilots around the internet. There is one consensus on the ERAU debate. IT IS NOT WORTH IT! You will get the same from people who attended ERAU and who did not. It might help you if the chief pilot or recruiter is an ERAU grad but the same goes for every school.
I somewhat agree with you If you're purely interested in flying then you are right; you'd be better off at a regular flight school. But with an Aeronautical Sci degree you have opportunities to earn a dispatcher's certificate, you can work in a safety dept, etc; it prepares you for more than being a pilot. That is just one example. I know they there are multiple ways to become an airline pilot and ERAU is not the only, or necessarily the best and does not guarantee a job once it's on your resume
There are many universities that offer aviation degrees. Flight Science, Aeronautical Science, they are all the same and are not worth the paper they are printed on. You are better of getting your licenses on the side at a small flight school or maybe even in the colleges flight program but getting a degree that is not related to aviation to serve as a plan B. Being a pilot depends on your health and things happen in life that could end your flying career.
As a current ERAU Aero Sci & flight student I'd beg to differ and that's not just because that's where I study but because I value what I do with my life, and the education I have received has been valuable. Diversity is definitely vital; I completely agree with your last statement. That's why I already hold a degree in a non-aviation related field. I did my research so I knew what I was getting into and I have no regrets. How valuable someone else finds that education only they can say.
You already have a degree and are getting another degree in one of the most expensive schools in the country? you do realize that is not very smart finance wise but whatever works for you. I am just stating my opinion. Of course anyone can do what they like and what works best for them. But they should not make the decision of going to ERAU because they might get an edge in the hiring process because that is just not true.
My first was "free" and by completing electives and general courses outside ERAU my time there has been cut from 4 down to 2 years. Add in a scholarship and it becomes substantially more affordable. I respect that you have your opinion and you are fully entitled to it. ERAU doesn't roll out a red carpet and lay everything on a golden platter but opportunities exist there that you don't find in many other places. Things tend to work out for those that take advantage.
Well then if you did get a free degree and had credits to transfer to the ERAU degree and got a scholarship then that changes things up for you. However, not everyone is as fortunate as you and telling them people from ERAU will get preference over other people is not true. I have been to ERAU. I am part of a fraternity and the flight team at my school. Tell me one opportunity you get at ERAU that you wouldn't get at another university with a flight program?
I have had the opportunity to dine with the Chief Pilot and Chief Mechanic of Pepsi Co's flight department, amongst other networking opportunities. It's not a job but later on having him as a reference could go a long way. The student group I am involved with is formally recognized and endorsed by the NBAA, and is the only one of that type in the country. Students at other universities may have similar experiences but you typically don't them at a regular flight school.
Someone recommend the college way, I agree. However, graduating from a name brand college doesn't give you any advantages, nor you can expect a right seat of a 747 while the ink are still wet on your dipolma
regional airlines. where they pay you just enough money so that you can wipe your ass after taking a dump. thats bout it. if u really want an education and go somewhere in aviation. look at University of North Dakota, Daniel Webster College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Florida Institute of Tech. Im a sophmore at Embry-Riddle, and already working on flight instructor rating. its worth it man, check it out
can you tell me if Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University do stand alone flight training? I'm not looking to do a bachelors or any other degree as I'v already done college etc
You are better off going to a quick program and getting on with a regional and begin to build seniority. While there you can do one of many online degree programs from many schools,
1) Get to a regional ASAP
2) Build time and seniority while working on degree with all the down time in hotels
3) Just about when you have your degree you will have the PIC hours needed to start to apply with the majors.
im guessing u did the quick route. watever works. personal tales from other pilots have said to me that they are stuck in the regionals and always have been. every single one ive talked to. i suggest the college route. online degree is not the same as a real degree
How ignorant to say that an online degree is not a real degree. Many large and respected universities offer online degree programs, including Riddle. What airline do you fly for? I assume you must be an airline pilot otherwise why would you offer advice on this topic
i go to riddle. and im just saying, and im telling you right now, u dont get the same amount of QUALITY information from online degrees. i know because a buddy of mine is doing riddle online, and is not impressed. i highly suggest doing the college thing
Yeah thats me in the middle. As soon as the mask goes on the lights are back on... I do not remember the last 30sec to a 1min before I put my mask on.

Like ERAU, DCA is highly respected in the industry and their names WILL give you the edge over some other candidates for a job.

@Lybron0620
Going to DCA or ERAU does not give you an edge. Get educated by going to different pilot forums around the internet. You are talking out of your ass.
