As much as I love this game, I will agree that the joisting gameplay might be rather simplistic for every, so-called, "hardcore gamers" to enjoy. Just know what you're getting into before making a purchase.

Yep. Life was simpler by the late 80's. To put it in another perspective, it had to make up for having REAL music (not MIDI files) which by the way is still one of the best for any RPG including it's remakes and it include anime-like screenshots with moveable mouths for their speech (yes, the characters speak at some points in the game). Plus, did you know that u can hear the soundtrack by placing the game CD in any CD player?? How many games do that now!!? Run to kill... ok by me.

i love this game, prbly one of my favourite. Part 1 is too easy though (except Boss 2 and early in the tower after losing silver equipments) I hope they release Ys III and an english version of Ys IV too on the VC (preferably Turbo versions)

It sounds strange, but yeah. It all depends on your experience, equipment and angle of attack that determines if you kill the enemy. Its strange, but it works well once you learn it.

The best role-playing game ever created by man.

I used to meditate to the soundtrack by playing as an audio CD. Never had visions like that before or since - absolutely profound. I still can't explain exactly why it worked better than classical, ambient, or any other music type.

Sold the Duo and all games on Ebay.

I am also looking around for the soundtrack to book 1 and II (I'm sure it's out there somewhere)

The soundtrack is on the game cd. You can import the songs directly into your computer and then burn them on to a CD.

This game is awesome. Part 1 before going into the tower where you defeat Dark Fact is friggin easy though compared to other Ys games. I even defeated Dark Fact in 8 seconds

Yeah, but that's only because it adheres to the level cap of the whole game. Try beating Dark Fact on Eternal, he's a freaking knightmare.

You can buy the CD and play it on a program called Magic Engine, but only do this as a last resort because when and if Ys I & II comes out on the Wii, it'll be cheaper.

I have a question for you. Would you consider Y's book 1 & 2 better than Neutopia 1 & 2? I've played the Neutopia series on the Virtual console, and love it, but after watching this clip the graphics, and game play seem better than Neutopia.... what do you think?

Neutopia's gameplay is better than Y's book 1 and 2 but the story of Y's kicks the hell out of Neutopia's storyline.

My advice is geting them both , their great. I always Liked Neutopia cause it reminded me of Zelda. I think however Neutopia and Y's Series are equally as good.The music in Y's is really awesome.

I've got a CoreGrafx II system with the Super CD-Rom attachment. I've got about 120 PC Engine/Turbografx-16 games. Love the system. I had a TurboDuo but I got tired of them going out on me so I invested in a PC Engine system. So far so good.

SuperGrafx was just a souped up Pc Engine that had 6 games released for it and then was basically dumped by Hudson. I have one and Ghouls & Ghosts and 1943 but I hardly ever take it out of the closet and hook it up anymore.

Dracula X is a definite possibility as it's already being released in the US on the PSP this month so it's already been translated technically. Cosmic Fantasy is possible, but probably not too likely. Loom I haven't heard a word about yet. I know Lords of Thunder, Dynastic Hero, Monster Lair, and Fantasy Star Soldier (aka Star Parodier) are coming at some point, but they haven't let anyone in on exactly when.

Ya Y's I & II is probably one of my favorite games for the turbo duo, they also released a few remakes, one of them was for windows 98, with greatly improved graphcis, however the tg16 verison still has the best sound track out of all of them.

I just played through this game on my PC Engine about a week ago. One of the best rpgs from this time period. I too played the sms version first, but I think you'll love this version with the second chapter. Amazing!
