  • Keep inspiring Joe... too much awesomeness!

  • Man you are AWESOME!

    I LOVE YOU!

  • o João Neto Ipu , sabe tocar essa muisik. hehe

  • joe is so fucking cool

  • Did he just try to eat his guitar around 10:00 minutes

  • Because of my slow internet connection, I had to wait half an hour before I could watch thhe entire video. TOTALLY worth it!

  • He didn't mention any reverb. Built in amp?

  • @Jraax Im pretty sure he didn't say it cause he doesn't use it. Reverb can get very cluttered in a live mix definitely for Joes style of playing its more about the tube amp. Like he said he uses little boxes here and there for different songs.

The key is the two delays he probably supplements that shorter one for a reverb and then the longer one. A shorter delay like that really sounds good live cause it has space to breath more than reverb.

  • He didn't stay with the Peavey amps for very long, wonder what happened. He always used clean channels & used pedals for gain. Nice to see him using the amps gain finally. Great tone.

  • i hope all guitarist are as humble like him! from pilipinas mj!

  • What is the effect at 9.11 min?

  • @asiat30 that's the digitech 33B - go back to 4:50, I think you're hearing the Emin harmony setting @ 9:11

  • @musicisart2.

    Thank you very much Musiciart2.

  • So friendly and informative!

    Thanks Joe :-)

  • The tone man..the tone!

  • i like how he says "we" use instead of "I" ;") so humble

  • i love it! I'm inspired.. he made me pick up my guitar and shred.. :)

  • Very good!!!

  • Is a name for this freaking awesome tone he makes an 8:37 ?

  • @MokxTube he calls it the satch scream

  • Why did he stop using the JSX's? I loved the peavey tone!

  • @landonech he was at a chickenfoot rehearsal, decided to plug in his old marshall's and decided that they sound better. I think I agree

  • @TobyBallMusic It's funny that the Peavey team and Joe worked non stop building his dream amp, all his own specifications, the tone he wanted, the channels, the this/that and etc. and now he's over it. He had such a big smile playing through them on the Tokyo G3, and Satriani LIVE! DVD. I love the JSX, ever since I heard him play through one I wanted to get one and know I own one. Couldn't ask for a better amp. Going to bring it to Eurotubes and make it sing and punch a bit more.

  • Yes ,,, No ,, Ammmm I get it now .....

  • I just love you Joe

  • I pooped a little at 8:40.

  • "Try that at home kids" Hahahaha

  • It's cool how he actually uses his signature products. a lot of Van Halen's signature stuff is all hype.

  • Superb Joe, as always :)

  • Who says nice guys finish last. Jesus, what a nice guy for a genius.

  • Song at 7:50 is 'why'

  • If joe satriani tells me to tune into music radar everyday, then that is what i shall do.

  • joe satriani could be a rockstar with "asshole" attitude. but instead... he is so cool!

  • @terreviento Indeed he seem like a nice guy

  • Effects are one thing. Knowing how to use them is quite another and takes years and years to learn. And Joe is amazing.

  • 9:11 sweet baby jesus, that's beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • Joe is THE guitar GOD!

  • So few effects.. bet it took him years to work out which ones work.. I guess like any artist, he has (and knows) his tools and pallette to work from/with.

  • whats the song his starts playing at 7:50?

  • @metaldude21 The song is called why

  • why does he put tape or whatever it is around the pedal switches

  • @mnm1945 i'm pretty sure it's just glow in the dark tape so he can see the switches in the dark during the show

  • @mnm1945 when he plays live he has sunglasses on so it just makes it a little bit easyer to see i have to do that to mine i wear glasses to see but i dont like to wear them when i play so i cant see any thing more than a foot away lol

  • Does anybody know the best settings on the time machine to get satriani's delay sound? appreciate it.

  • i was at this concert! it was nasty!

  • Thanks Joe for your time to share, you are the best player I've seen,Thumbs Up to Music Radar!!

  • Hey Satriani i'm a dentist. Call me when you need dental implants. Trust me man doing that shit you'll need them :P

  • the song at 7:50 please :) ?

  • @Youriri1 It's "Why" from the album "The Extremist"

  • AMEN!

  • They say "revealed" like it was such a big secret XD

  • how the hell does he do the thing at 8:40

  • @61SGman He plays an artificial harmonic near the bridge of the guitar and then uses his left hand to push his whammy bar up to make it squeal like that.

  • He also uses the whammy for Searching, but I noticed he didn't do that one on the last tour... :( Kind of made me sad.

  • 8:40 ''Try that at home kids!''

Dude, i've been trying for over a year, please explain me how to! :xD

  • So, first he plays the guitar then at 10:38 he plays the harmonica... then he plays the guitar WITH the harmonica!

You sir, are a piece of work Mr. Satriani.

  • Now THAT was awesome!!!!

  • This is the most awesome video EvEr :D

  • I love the sound on the 33b, at 9:10 Thats awesome. The song why is really good.

  • do not be rat, you are great friend guitar. saludos xineruas

  • sounds great through the marshalls man

  • Awesome! Thanks Joe!

  • 0:13 Annoying orange would be happy

  • He said thank you to the roadie... never saw that.

  • How cool is this man? Talent aside, he seems just a downright nice bloke...

  • I wish malmsteen was humble like him

  • @12062 all we need from Wingee is his music, but Joe we want to buy a beer, Jam with him, and chase chicks

  • @12062 I've met Satriani many years ago at an autograph session in HK. Him and the whole band were awesome! We talked about the difference in coffee from the Starbucks here and in the US! Not only that, he signed my guitar and my CD which wasn't allowed by the store owners but he did it anyway. I've met Malmsteen in a similar situation and that was just a sign and walk away experience. Satriani rocks. So does Yingwe too, but for different reasons. :)

  • gimme that marshall :Q__

  • Anyone else thinking: ~lucky bastard~ :-D

  • Mike Manning:

Body guard, guitar handler, pedal taper, and harmonica tray designer.

i would love to have him on a tour

  • MY FACE MELTING AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHH

  • Joe's still the man.

  • @ 8:39 yes joe we will definitely try that in our home thanks for the info hehe

  • LOL He went back to Marshall after developing and playing his own peavey JSX signature !

Anyway i am sure that he can make nearly every amp and set up sound good !!!

  • is alder wood a type of ash?

  • The Man can play any Guitar out there. FENDER/Gibson/PRS/Suhr/Melancon/ROMAN/, but he Chooses IBANEZ. Like Paul Gilbert,& Vai they know what works for them

  • il fait delirer c'est le meilleur et il nous montre tout comme des potes lol

  • What a cool dude...love satch!

  • Whaht does he use the Ice9 Satchurator pedals? He only gets distorsion with the amps ?

  • 06:30 are those picks on the amp?

  • Thank God he heard Jimi!

  • What is the pedal he is using at 8:48 ? That is amazing..

  • if it wasn't for Joe, i wouldnt have picked up the guitar. Thanks for everything Joe!!!

  • hey joe, what happend with your signature amps from peavey JSX ?

  • Some people will try and sell you a fish head and claim it's aphrodisiac. :)

If I were a rich fucking pro then yes I could afford a different Guitar for every tune & ever occasion.

I would also come across as a down to earth nice guy coz that's what sucks the punters in.

Money makes the world go around!

    Digitech rocks BTW.

  • Joe is the best! Strange he has the wah all the way to the right and he uses his left foot to control it. Must be awkward.

  • Remember... Press YES not NO ... XD

  • no yes no yes hahahahaha only left right ??

  • Joe is indeed a super cool guy. I see that 2 people didn't like this video. I'm guessing that they are jealous of not having all of the gear that Joe has. We're all jealous, but he's music is made of thumbs up, so I don't know why they did it.

  • anybody know how he did that thing with the whammy bar

  • thanks joe! you've made my day!

  • "AND OFCOARSE THE WAH WAHHHHHHHHHHH!" what a cool guy

  • Satch is a showman!!! He is the best guitar player on the universe!!!

  • Are you kidding me!? A Minute long ad!??!

  • SHIT! HOW COOL IS JOE???! He's my inspiration!

  • i just want to know which song is he played at 7:51.

  • @YichenWang That's "WHY" from the Extremist Album =) Joe 4EVER!

  • @deathscythekim729 thank you so much! i've just heard that..amazing!

  • @YichenWang it's my girlfriend's favorite track from Joe..haha..welcome bro!

  • Is he using the ProOctavia at 8:47 ? And is he connecting that mysterious pedal to the Digitech 33B to get that amazing sound at 9:11 ?

  • @MagneticMetallica81

    who would know...:/

  • great tone...i am in love with these JVMs...But I noticed that Joe said the the second Marshall head (the one in the middle) is there just because if the first one "dies", and then in the video (5:35) i noticed that this second head isn't connected to the cabinet. I think that he is using stereo and that these second head is there just to look good. No hard feelings..But the sound and playing is amazing..Joe is one of my favourite... :))

  • @babymaya123 I forgot to say, these can also been seen in 6:00, when Joe explains a switch "Yes", "No". Notice that this i an ABY switch, and there is connected only one input and one output..And i think that this is being used for sort of a mute and the second head is there just to look good..

  • God Joe is so fucking cool... im in my thirties and am still blown away in amazement by him

  • This guy is Amazing!

  • this guy is unbelivalbe

  • Awesome Joe...I had the pleasure of watching you live when you came to Houston....at the House of Blues. Freakin' unbelievable. Thanks for the music!!!

  • what effect he used in 9:11?anyone? thanks

  • what effect he used in 9:11?anyone? thanks

  • I don't know how anyone can say anything bad about Joe Satriani , i mean he taught steve an Kirk

Gave us some of the best instrumental rock I've ever heard is as nice and mellow as you can get

So who ever says anything ill about the rock god will get what they deserve!!!!

  • Thanks Joe for sharing with us all. We are all humbled by your love and passion of guitars and music technology, as an extension of your musical creativity. :-R

  • got 2 questions...does anyone know the name of those shoes?

and... about the VOX wah... is it modified for Satch?

  • Wow ! what a great video !!!! Every good guitar player should do that ! It's so nice of them !

  • Just saw him last night in Kelowna BC. I have 30 minutes of HD concert footage from it. Someones hoping to see some I'm sure. Also thank you Joe for sharing your gear. I so wanted to get a look at it last night.

  • somebody tell me about the 33b!!?

  • I just love him

  • need same thing for all of his show and records since 1986!^^

  • Thumbs up if this vid made you go to eBay to see how much Digitech 33B's are going for.

  • I dig this whole thing. I like the fact that with the acoustic was your favorite color. FYI...Black is the combination of all colors, for those of us that didn't mix all the finger paints together in grade school! Ok I also ate some of the wheat paste!

  • joe satriani advice should be in the curriculum of every state education system.

  • I freaking Love you Joe, you're my favorite guitar player...thanks for sharing your gear!!

  • He's even like that in person...ha! Awesome guy and secure in his Guitar Godship, he seems to have fun with it and doesn't let it go to his head. Saw him 12 days ago with VIP's, what a great show...the best I've seen yet. This album rocks!

  • I really hope he makes a dvd for this tour. I'd love to see him perform Why live.

  • Watching Satch do this makes me feel like I'm talking to a Daddy giving his son or daughter a bunch of tips on what he use in his garage for repairing a car. He's just so amazing that I like the way he presents himself. He's so Cool, very Humble and yet very Intimidating (well that's b/c he's a guitarist, I mean a REAL Guitarist!).

  • I saw the show yesterday and I still do not know what the "yes" button does, can anybody tell me

  • @1ryan5150

Not 100% sure, but I think it is for if/when he has a problem with the main amp he is to hit the "yes" button to switch to the backup amp. Hitting the "no" button won't do anything. He may feel during a song that the amp is just not sounding right and walk over and hit the switch to change to the backup. Just my guess.

  • COOL GUY..JP AND JS 4EVER

  • Just an FYI. I was looking at the user manual for the DigiTech IPS-33b and the copyright date was 1990 so that gives you an idea of the era it was from. It's an amazing effect for the time.

If you look on here you'll find a video posted by 0ddb0d showing some if the 33b's effects. It's sold me on the effect and I plan on finding one some time soon

Check out the "shimmer" effect in his video. It's just awesome.

  • "Minimal pedalboard"? Really? LOL

    Nice rig!

  • phsychic

  • does somebody know which song he's playing from around 7:50 to 8:18 or so?

  • @StefRoGer the son;s name is why..

  • chupalo pelao culiao Dx

  • Stated that I love Joe and consider him a true genius, can please someone explain me why using a Digitech Whammy when his guitars are already equipped with Edge bridges? Thanks in advance!

  • @PJITA with the digitech whammy, he can alter the pitch of his guitar (up 2 octaves i think), and the edge whammy is used more for quicker flourishes, such as a divebomb. now you could do that with the digitech, but it wont sound (or look) as good. the name whammy (digitech) is a little misleading, its more like a real time pitch shifter. hope that all made sense

  • @PJITA well no amount of pulling up on an edge bridge on his guitar will raise the pitch of a note by a ull octave or certainly 2 without snapping strings and damaging the bridge so thats why the pedal is there :P

  • Does it say "Z VEX" on the #3 in the marshall pedalboard ??

  • Marty Chang

  • Nice,thanks for the vid,love it.

  • What a great guy - wonderful and refreshing to see someone this successful and totally devoid of an attitude problem at the same time.

  • @netterstyl No kidding,I've been a fan for a long time,It's great to see a great guitarist get his due,and keep a great personality.Clearly a cool dude. killer fuckn axeman,too .:))

  • No more JSX????

  • Kind of fun to hear the tone after that Marshall pulverizes the mic and input on that camera from 4 feet away. Maybe somebody can build a pedal to re-create it. The Man is a class act. Best show I've ever seen.

  • Comment removed

  • 7:04 I never heard Satch say 'piss' or any swear words himself 0_o

  • @NazoVid same

  • What is the effect at 9:10? Everyone says Digitech 33b but I can't seem to find it. Help!?

  • @RomeRider389 Digitech IPS33b

  • @RomeRider389 They might not be made anymore, in this video he says that his are from the '70s... I know, I'm sad too, it's such a beautiful tone. lol

  • @RomeRider389 It's the Digitech IPS-33b. It's a rack mount effect circa the early 90's. I looked around and only found 2 for sale on ebay.

I just found out that my digitech GNX4 effects board has an IPS harmonizer setting and I'm trying to set it up the same way he has it. You can control the harm. interval (3rd, 4th, 5th etc above or below the root) the mode (maj, min, mixolydian, harm. min, etc) and the key you want it in. I'll post the exact settings as soon as I figure them out.

  • @Acepryus After fooling around a bit I think this is how he has it set up. He's using two 33b's the first harmonizes a 4th below the root in the harmonic minor mode with the harmony level set high (close to 100)

The second 33b harmonizes a 4th above the root note in mixolydian with the harmony level set around 50 so you get just a hint of an overtone.

Both harmonize in the key of Eb

I can't duplicate it exactly because my board can only do a single note harmony either above or below the root.

  • If you love guitar there is no one better.... no one!!

  • 8:39 eargasm

  • Have you noticed that our truely gifted guitar players egoes are in check and they come across a great people!

  • What's the name of the song at 7:50 ?
