Excellent post. Very Helpful. I have the Hipoint 45 and C9. Also I have the 995TS carbine and I LOVE em! Great info on cleaning. I think I need to disassemble and clean mine today. I also think I was over oiling. Thanks again!
I have a hi-point 9mm with the compensator, I have taken it off the compensator at the end, once i take out the slide retainer pin and move the slide upwards to take it off, the slide doesn't come off, it will not fit over the 1/2 inch barrel that protrudes out, therefore the slide doesn't come off... any ideas as to how to remove the slide over the barrel?
@PDT1257 I've never seen the one with the compensator. This is just a guess, but i'm wondering if when you take the slide retainer pin out, lift the back end up as far as it will go, and then remove the slide retainer (part 8) by sliding it out, as it should easily do so since it does not have a pin in it. Then once that's out you probably can drop the slide back down and then push it forward to remove it. Hope this helps!
Very good video. The only comment I have is u need to have a light in the back behind ur shoulder to give light on the various parts for better viewing when showing close ups. Very good presentation it will help alot.
Great instructional video. It sure helps when factoring what type of gun to purchase. Some other videos make them very intimidating to field strip, but yours was right on! Thanks Again!
@ls1greenmonster according to the Hi-Point manual, you should take apart your gun every 1500 - 2000 rounds. This assumes you are cleaning your barrel every 300-400 rounds. Honestly, I take mine a part a lot sooner than that, usually after each shooting session or at least every couple.
Your video really helped me, but I had some trouble on reassembly. Lost of pieces fell out, I managed to catch them all and put them back in, but now my slide locks while the mag is in, every time I pull it back, the slide works fine when I drop the mag out though. Any suggestions?
@LordGhen37 Do you mean it locks back when you have magazine + ammo in? Not sure which caliber you have, but I would check the hold open spring and related parts, usually 32-34 on the high-point exploded diagram. These parts force a piece up that blocks the slide form closing when mag is empty. I imagine if those were not put in right it would be easy for it to cause problems.
@ls1greenmonster Hi-Point's manual doesn't specify how to oil the gun. I just use a drop of rem oil on each side of the slide. I use my finger to take that one drop and rub oil on the side. Any more than that is not necessary, as it could attract excess dirt.
@basshoundusa I had mentioned to 420 Bailey down below last night, that the firing spring is kinda bent when I take it out. The pin looks to be fine. I will give them a call. Thank you so much for taking the time and talking to me about this.
I just called High Point and they are closed until Jan.3rd.
just wanted t throw this on here, the hi-points do need to be opened up and have the feed ramp polished, and a good initial cleaning. But after that you only need clean the parts that are accesable with the gun assymbled ie. the barrel, the receiver thru the ejection port, etc. Hi-point reccomends the first full strip down cleaning at 13-1500 rnds. Thats the reason for the rolled pin assy, the gun isn't meant to be "field striped".
I have an High Point 40 JCP and took it apart, cleaned it and put it back together. Now I cannot get it to fire. I took it to a friend that works on weapons (Mainly Glocks and Sigs) and he did the same and it still will not fie. Just clicks. Any ideas????
@DWALKE33 when you pull the trigger and it clicks, does it feel like it normally does, or different? I would get an exploded view of the parts (from Hi-Point's) website and make sure everything is in place.
@basshoundusa High, yes it does. I took it back apart to make sure Part Number 12 war not backwards, because part of the handgrip parts pop loose and I cleaned those as well.. I froze your video to make sure every thing was back in its right place too. Thanks for responding.
@DWALKE33 make sure that part 10 (sear assembly) is properly inserted into the hole of part 11. Part 11 is kind of tricky to fit in right. Make sure that the swinging arm on part 23 is positioned underneath part 10, as that has to do with the drop safety feature. Feel free to post a video showing what it does and maybe we can help you out. Other than that, it might be time to test Hi-Point's lifetime warranty!
@DWALKE33 also, even though the hi-point parts list doesn't show it clearly, there are two firing pin springs (part 6). One fits inside of the other. I imagine if one is missing it may not be striking the primer hard enough, causing it to not fire.
@basshoundusa Yes, one is a spring and the other is like a sleeve. The spring is kinda bent when you take it out. As mentioned earlier, Part 11 is the one that popped loose and I had taken the grip off to put back on. I did get it back in place right.
OY, I do want to say, it does make a mark on the primer when I try to fire.
@Studmuffin6694 I'm not too familiar with PB blaster, though I googled it to see what it was. I wouldn't used it, based on the description. It seems that the lubricant would get into parts that shouldn't be lubricated, plus may cause you to lose some parts of the gun, if your not careful.
@dstnr Not really sure. I would get to Hi-Points website and download their manual to look at the exploded parts list, to ensure that everything is still there. I would definitely look to make sure parts 10 and 11(sear cam, sear assembly) are in their proper position. Remember also that the notch in part 11 has to be facing towards the shooter. Other than that, I would imagine calling hi-point tech support would help, as they may know exactly what causes this problem. Worse case they will fix it
Thanks for the demo on how to field strip the 45 or C9 and taking it piece by
piece and cleanin the gun 90% or more. You made it look real easy and I have now gotten confident that it is not as hard as when you first started to remove the parts. As far as the names to the parts you sounded like you
knew the parts very well for reading it off from the diagram in front of you. Awesome video! Thanks! Lopaka Kanaka!!
@filoIII A little bit I did. I took a fine sand paper and just moved it back and forth with a pencil eraser for about a minute, then cleaned it out real good with Hoppes #9.
just a great clean job on the 45. thxs for alli tips as well.I ran 50 rounds only but wanted to see how the break in is going.I used an bore snake.some corbin barrel cleaner and some rem oil.I notested you have the handball grip,I have it as well.what a differance.thxs alot for vid
@bennra26008 Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Yeah the grip makes holding the gun way better. I also clean the gun more often than they suggest as well. Why not...makes it run even better.
To get rid of the white cotton fuzzies from cleaning patches... BEFORE YOU OIL!!! After the bore cleaner dries used compressed air to blow it out it also helps remove carbon you can't get to becareful though cause parts could fly off with air
@angrybeef2000 yeah, i'm not a fan of the magazine disconnect "safety". I've seen some videos on here showing how to remove it. Might be a project to do in the near future.
the retaining pin that appears as a rolled up piece of sheet metal is called a roll pin. They were first used to pin together guns in russia, namely the mosin nagant, and the svt-40 first, lkater the ak. They last quite a long time, I have a weapon suing them that i have field stripped hundreads of times for practice and maintenance and the pin still holds fast. Moreover I have seen roll for sale in a number of home improvement stores so replacements will be easy to come by.
@Justin5566ful I don't think I'll have time to redo it anytime soon. However around 18:16 it shows it fairly well. The sear assembly has a notch on it, and will face towards the shooter (towards the back of the gun, and it just sits in the hole. Put the spring in first, then the sear assembly. Check out hi-pointfirearms(dot)com for a manual that shows an exploded view of the parts.
That was an excellent video and i really appreciate your time to make that. I recently just bought a HP .45 JHP and was a little confused and afraid to take it apart. Seeing this video has made it crystal clear about not only assembly but CLEANING and OILing it. I thank you ver much.
Just picked up a used Hi-Point JHP .45acp model. Not exactly the 1911 I want but right now the Hi-Point is all I can afford so I went with it. Fires very well, had a couple of failure to go into battery but they were on some horrible ammunition. First round fired the case stovepiped on ejection, but it never did that again. I rapidly fired a full 9 round magazine flawlessly after the 3 initial issues and it functioned perfectly. yes they're cheap guns, but it's all I can afford right now.
Great video. thank you for your time making it. I bought one and after around 100 rounds the mag started to cause feeding problems but i adjusted the lips.. Next step is to fully clean it.
@InjuryMouse Which model do you have? My .45 has virtually no problems, but the 9mm has jammed on me. All were failure to go into battery. Only noticed in on cheaper ammo. I need to buy/reload some more and test again. Thanks for the comment.
hey !! that was a good video :) it help me alot with cleaning my .40 cal hi-point . thanks for the video . It was the first time cleaning for me and it was a lot easier that i thought . Thanks for pepole like you to give this stuff out for free ...... :)
@Ashlieco25 Thanks for your feedback. I've received so much helpful information from youtube, myself. I'm just giving a little bit back. Thanks again!
These guns...I have several higher end pistols...but i always end up looking at these in the shops. The price is sooooo attractive. I've been reading up on them, cuz i would really hate to buy something awful, and so far i have found that *most* people who own one stnad behind them them 100%. The ones who don't hate them so much it's almost personal, as if the gun turned backwards as they were shooting. What's the real deal? all responses welcome.
@rahands If i had a choice to get (for free) a hi-point or a Glock (or other "name brand" firearms) I would choose a Glock. If I had to choose the gun which gave you the biggest bang for the buck, I'd choose Hi-Point. Sure they are heavy and a bit ugly, but they shoot as accurate and as reliably as a high end gun. I don't know why some people hate them so much. I think they are just "gun prisses"--like people who won't buy Levi jeans because they are not gucci and cost many times more.
@ssbadazz It's actually a 1/8 punch. It's actually a glock tool for disassembling magazines. But anything cylindrical with about a 1/8 inch diameter will work. Your local hardware store should sell punch tools. Otherwise a small phillips screwdriver should get the job done.
@bootintheface No, I don't conceal carry this gun. It's too big and heavy. To test it out once, I did conceal carry in a cheap UTG brand shoulder holster, which made my neck sore. I think a better shoulder holster would be reasonably comfortable however. I'm thinking about trying the M7 Army Shoulder Holster. It's $30 on cheaper than dirt. After a quick look on the internet, doesn't seem to be a lot of options for carrying a hi-point .45 concealed, other than shoulder, or hip with baggy cloths.
I have watched several other videos related to this HP 45 and not once could I see where the "stubby, wide, firing pin spring belongs. [is all I knew is I had an "extra" spring after cleaning up my pistol. You solved the riddle. Many thanks Man.
@JohnCTIV LOL, not surprising, they sometimes are referred to as gangster guns due to their inexpensive cost. But lets face it, if there are a lot of them around, they are doing something right.
hey man thanks for the vid...i am not at all mechanically inclined so I was afraid to break down the 45acp JHP. After about 1400 rds it started having a couple of FTE probs. I followed the video step by step broke it down and cleaned out a very dirty gun. I took it to the range and no more probs...thanks again
@JBall419 as far as what? Unless I misunderstand, no...Hoppes is used to break down gun powder residue for purpose of cleaning. Rem oil is a lubricant used to reduce friction between moving parts, such as the slide on the frame. Hoppes or other solvents should be wiped off before re-assembling gun. Then oil/lubricant can be applied (minimally) to recommended areas, such as a little bit on the slide. Never get any on the firing pin.
@JBall419 I see where it says that now. I imagine that the cleaning part is overstated to give rem oil an extra use. Though rem oil can be used i doubt it works as well. Oil will not dissolve gun powder and dirt like a solvent will. Plus, rem oil will not evaporate like hoppes will, leaving oil behind, making for a harder cleanup than hoppes (or other solvent). Oil is very difficult to wipe away fully, and bad for firearms because it attracts dirt, except for small amounts in specific areas.
I polished my barrel, the feed ramp, and the rear portion of the inside of the slide. It looks cool and works better than before. Yeah I voided the warranty, but hell; its a $150 gun!
WOW, thanks a bunch man. Great video. I just bought a hi point 45 and went to oil it up before I shot it and I had no clue how to take it apart and when I got it apart all of the pieces went flying and I had no idea how to put it back together. I kept putting the small firing spring in front of the firing pin. You just saved me the trouble of having to send it back to hi point. Very good detailed video. Thanks again!!!
i sent my hi point out a few days ago i couldnt get it to cycle 8 rounds without a jam or ftf. I was very disapointed oh well i hope it comes back with a different attitude. nice video.

I don't know why some people hate them so much. I think they are just "gun prisses"--like people who won't buy Levi jeans because they are not gucci and cost many times more.

hey man what size screwdriver did you use to get the pin out to clean it????
ssbadazz 6 months ago
@ssbadazz It's actually a 1/8 punch. It's actually a glock tool for disassembling magazines. But anything cylindrical with about a 1/8 inch diameter will work. Your local hardware store should sell punch tools. Otherwise a small phillips screwdriver should get the job done.

Did you say you conceal carry this gun? Its bulky as shit lol what kind of holster are you using?
bootintheface 6 months ago

@imcuz2 haha, glad my video helped. It's always frustrating to find extra parts that seem to not belong!!

I took it to the range and no more probs...thanks again

will rem oil do the trick instead of hoppes
JBall419 8 months ago
@JBall419 as far as what? Unless I misunderstand, no...Hoppes is used to break down gun powder residue for purpose of cleaning. Rem oil is a lubricant used to reduce friction between moving parts, such as the slide on the frame. Hoppes or other solvents should be wiped off before re-assembling gun. Then oil/lubricant can be applied (minimally) to recommended areas, such as a little bit on the slide. Never get any on the firing pin.
basshoundusa 8 months ago
@basshoundusa really? my can of rem oil says for cleaning, lubricating, and corrosion-protecting fine firearms.
JBall419 8 months ago

Painkiller9013 9 months ago
@Painkiller9013 yeah, no doubt. I ended up doing that on my C9 to get it to feed more smoothly.
