  • damn, imagine what the world would be like if people didnt decide to do so many drugs during the 70s and 80s

  • bp kills human advancement

  • that is a cute little car

  • I'm impressed at how that designer sketched those few lines so deftly.

Nowadays a young techie would do that on a laptop smaller than that sketchpad, and almost as light.

    I remember "sketching" :)

Still plays some part, I'm sure, but less.

That electric car "factory" (or wing) may not have survived 1967-70?

They'll begin cranking 'em out soon enough :)

  • They made movies like this in 60's, they making them now, they will make them in the future and there still will not be decent electric car to replace petrol ones.

  • Didn't know the integrated hub motor was such an old idea.

But making electric cars glorified golf carts probably has hindered their wide spread adoption nearly as much as the antics of big oil.

In reality an electric car can be made to match or even beat an internal combustion vehicle in performance.

I think Tesla motors has the right idea in that the glorified golf cart image has to go.

  • American has and is building electric cars.they are rented out and when the lease is up we crush them so people will forget about them,

with over 100 trillion dollars of oil in the ground the electric car has no chance.

  • Wonder what poor Mr Carter thinks of his prediction today,

  • electric motors in the wheels. Volvo and Mitsubishi got that idea from GB 1967 then?

  • "Wheel hub electric motor was invented by Frenchman Charles Theryc and patented in 1896 as US patent 572,036 entitled Wheel with Electric Motor hub for Vehicles."

  • So sad that this clean car technology has been so neglected over the years, despite its limitations it would be very popular if only they were available at a reasonable price.

  • @badnewswade According to a MovieTone news reel of the era, the Ford Comuta was only supposed to cost between 300 and 450£. What makes the failure of this car doubly worse is that after the development of a sodium-sulfur battery, it would have gotten a very impressive 300 mile range.

  • How the hell do you fit into the back?!?!?!

  • the vehicles of the future? haha! i wish! i want one!

  • Big oil doesn't like EV's so we have become EVangelists

  • Ah! but which type of 'fuel cell'?

    Bio or hydrogen ?

Well we all know where the hydrogen route leads, nowhere. Its too expensive to produce and there is no infrastructure.

With Electric Cars (not fuel cell electric) the infrastructure is already there, every plug socket in every home and office!

  • i dream of this

  • Well it looks like Israel will be after their partnership with Renault and Nissan. Check out the YouTube videos

  • 40 years later and we're still not there!!!!

what a pathetic reflection on the human race.

  • You had Sir Clive Sinclair too that was a complete failure.

  • The 1974 McKee Sundancer, also Exide Sundancer, did 0-60 mph in 12 seconds, 65 mph top speed, 60 miles range at 60 mph, 80 miles range EPA highway cycle, and used a 72V pack of Trojan T145 golf cart batteries. It seat two adults and weighed 1600 lbs. The CVT kept is at peak power during acceleration.

This was possible then and far better is possible today!

  • In 109 the Baker Electric had a range of 110miles at 25mph.

In 1932 the Detroit Electric had a range of 70miles at 28 mph.

In 1974 the Exide Sundancer had a range of 60miles at 60 mph.

Is history going backwards or not ?

  • You must consider that the horsepower to overcome aerodynamic drag varies as a cube of your velocity! I wouldn't be surprised if it got 120 miles range at 30 mph. Also, I was incorrect on the acceleration. 0-60 of the Sundancer was 28 seconds, not 12 seconds. I got confused on a post on the EV discussion list and the 12 seconds figure was for a proposed upgraded version with AC drive.

  • Also, according to an old post be Lee Hart in 2001 on the EVDL, the Sundancer got 150 miles range at 30 mph! Impressive. Also consider that the Baker Electric used Edison's NiFe batteries that had about double the specific capacity of lead acid, and you can see just how impressive later EVs are. The first EVs had crap aerodynamics. Streamlined versions would have gotten much better range. Research the old Baker Torpedo electric; it reached over 100 mph in the early 1900s!

  • @Odziz

Now, In 2011, the Tesla Roadster has a range of 240+ miles and a top speed of 125 mph.

  • well that never seemed to happen did it
