Just a slight correction...the actual title is "Gitarzan".
Ray and a man named Bill Everett wrote the song in 1969. It's a combination of the words guitar and Tarzan. The title was dreamed up by a musician named Bill Justis. The recordings from 1969 and 1995 of this song feature Ray doing both voices of Gitarzan and Jane...but in concert he has someone come out and play the part of Jane. It was a million selling pop hit for Ray in 1969.
As I came to find out later Bill Everette and Bill Justis are one in the same. Ray it turns out wrote "Gitarzan" by himself but gave half of the songwriting credit to Bill Justis since it was Justis who came up with the song's title.
