I remember when this happened in May of 1988. I was 8 years old and I remember watching it in the news....what a trip back in time for me!...It's been interesting traveling over the years on Youtube...this, the Persian Gulf War of 1990-1991, the LA riots of 1992, ah, memories...
To bad LAFD didn't listen to the Engineers at the time, the fire pumps were offline, engineers wanted to bring em on n LAFD said no, They also thought they were feeding water into the build, nope, around 550 psi in the pump room at the time, we run 570 now, all those Engines were dead headed at the FDC's, THATS why they were loosing hoses.
in response to ClareHolzer, this is a 24 hour building. Three shifts for engineering and two for janitorial. there is a lot of maintenance that goes into a building of this size. heavy maint. takes place when most tenants in the build. are gone
I'm an engineer in this building, on the same shift as the engineer that passed away responding to the call on 12. It's quite humbling to see actual film footage of the fire
I remember this. Drove past the building the next morning. Broken glass all over the street. I just wonder what the people evacuated on the roof were doing at work at 10:30 pm?
They were just working there late to cath up I presume, at least that is what is said when they were played by Lisa Hartman-Black and Peter Scolari in the TV Movie about the incident called "Fire! Trapped On The 37th Floor".
I found a made for t.v movie about this fire. I was digging throught some old stuff and found this V.S.H tape and had this movie on it and just finshed watching it. It was a good one old movie.
anybody else upload the movie? deere850j1 closed their account unfortunately

how come this didn't collapse while WTC 7 collapsed due to less fire?!
liquidus2172 5 months ago
@liquidus2172 maybe because a 110 story building crashed into before it caught on fire...just a hunch
mmitch230 5 months ago
@mmitch230 wtc 7 was barely damaged by wtc 1 or 2 falling debris and yet it collapsed!!!

Water damage from 12 down, smoke damage from 17 up. this building closed for about 6 months for repairs and major upgrades of the time.

The windows from about 11 to 17 still leak if the rain is blown to the side of the building, suppose everything can't be perfect

The building is still there happy as can be. Although it's now called AON Center.

This building is still standing, 2nd tallest building in Los Angeles. Tallest building in Los Angeles during the fire though!
It is now called AON Center.
