With all the concern by armies of animal lovers it is perplexing to me that we haven't followed Germany's example for mandatory spay/neuter with permits for breeding. Could there be something to the increased widespread fear that the neurotoxins in flouride products are doing their job and making American's docile and fairly apathetic? Evidently it was used in prison camps to control prisoners.
Finally I can hear from the people who must kill them and see the pain they go through as well. There's no more space anywhere to keep them and we have no other solutions, it's depressing.. I have not had a dog in three years, my oldest died at 15 and when I decide to look for a new companion I will go to a shelter.

Let me make a note. I have never neutered (I spay). I have never ONCE had a litter from my males..ever. So I have no contributed to the over population. Its not the people who are responsible about owning an intact pet, but rather those who breed and just dont give a shit. I choose to keep my males intact for their health. My rescue is a female and shes spayed. I have never bred and never will :)
Over the years I have gotten all of my pets at the shelter. I have never bought a pet at the pet store. Shelter animals make excellent pets. When a person rescues them that pet is very loyal to them.
If i had money i would open up a no kill shelter and if they were way too many animals i would give them away for free rather than being killed. You see how expensive it is to buy a dog or cat at a pet store. But if its free or cheap to get a pet than people should go to these shelters and adopt. I wish i could help someway

all the blame goes to the breeders (even the responsible ones) and irresponsible owners. no matter what kind of dog you want, you can find a rescue group. whether it be an english bulldog or a cockapoo, puppy or old, there are rescue groups with dogs that need homes. STOP buying from breeders and pet stores.
as someone who works at an animal shelter, these people need to contact their local government and change their laws regarding animal care. there are many shelters who have no-kill rules or only euthanise in extreme circumstances, and there's really no excuse for a shelter to have to put that many animals to sleep. if they're full, send animals to another shelter. make a foster program. bring in volunteers to socialize the animals. apply for grants or set up fundraisers.
I live in an area with a high euthansia rate. They move the animals into other shelters when they have space. they have foster programs. They have volunteers- actually they don't have a paid staff anymore. They run fundraisars and ask for grants.
They can't say no! Are they suppose to take 10 000 dogs home so they don't have to die? There is no room. Anywhere. They have no choice! No one could ever pay me enough to do their job. It's hard.

If they are put back out, they will die by starvation, or disease, or tortured by crazy people, or sold to laboratories, or hit by cars. The CANNOT survive on there own. I think a good solution is for shelters to offer very cheap/free dog training classes for owners and very cheap/free spay and neutering for this animals.

There's tons of stray cats where I live, I try to take care of them, most were dumped off at my house.There's too many to get them fixed,I can barely pay for their food.Getting them fixed and taking them to a vets not an option.Most of the cats are girls I heard it cost $20 to put them up for adoption or get them put to sleep, spaying cost $80. They're really sick and hurting.I know if I keep them then they'll get pregnant and have more suffering babies. I wish I had another option... :'(
Google to see if there's a feral trap-spay-and-release program in your area (generally start with "feral cats" and your location), or perhaps contact some local vets for ideas.
I honestly believe Nathan Winograds theory of no kill shelters. We need more education for people to not breed thier animals. To kill is totally disgusting and I would never ever donate to a kill shelter when there are many other ways. I just recently adopted an 11 year old rottweiler from a shelter. Her family of 11 years no longer wanted her. That disgusts me also.
Another thing I forgot is that my shelter is located in Lancaster County PA, home of the amish. We have to deal with them breeding and abusing animals. The amish claim that it is against their religion to spay/neuter the animals. If any of you have ever seen Oprahs puppy mill episode, then you know what we are up against. Lancaster needs to find another way to draw in tourists!
Not only to people have to spay/neuter their pets, they should keep them until their final day of life. I work at a shelter, I am animal care/euth tech and rescue coordinator, I feel the pain of murder. So many animals are surrendered to us because the owner is moving and can not take it with them, because of allergies, because they had a baby, the cat hates the new puppy, the saddest is "I just do not want it anymore." I think the biggest problem is that people think animals are disposable.
Exactly. Too many people come up with lame excuses not to keep the pets. They don't THINK before getting a cat. Do they have enough room? Do they have enough money? Does your whole family get along with pets? Any allergies in the household? What's the condition of each family members? Does your other pets get along with new pets? The keywords are PLAN and THINK!! People have brains for a reason. Use it!

I read about that. That was people who joined peta and then killed the animals. They used themselves being a member of peta to cover up the crime. Peta did not send those people to kill the animals.
This Video breaks my heart. I wish People would open their eyes. How can it be that these innocent animals have to die and never get a chance in life? Where is the concience of Breeders and Owners? I live in Germany now and there are no "Kill Shelters". There are many, many unwanted pets here too but they get a chance. I volunteer at my local shelter and some of the dogs have been here for nearly 10 years and are still up for adoption. How can it be so different in the States?

I work at a shelter, and I have to help with the Euthanizations. To those who think we can STOP it..how?? The ONLY way is to get your pets altered, quit buying pets, and adopt from the shelters..it will take YEARS to help the situation.

Hello, don't know if you meant my comment, if so: I am street worker and take care of feral cats, all my (six) cats (two disabled ones too) come from shelters. I do NOT think that shelter workers are in the wrong - totally opposite! I work with different organisations, I do know the sad truth and I do know the hard and mainly wonderful (for the animals) work they do. Spending time and money for the abondoned lovely creatures. My comment was meant to encourage shelter workers!
The more one gets introduced with animal rescue, the more the hate to humans can grow. As they just dump their sick or old or inconvenient animals. It IS very sad, but by the way, you treat the animals, how you behave when you put them asleep, it is still better than letting them suffer anymore. The humans mind must change. They must be aware that a pet belongs for a life time, not for a mood. Thank you for being so kind to the shelter animals, so that their last days are not too bad.

I can't even imagine how letting animals starve to death and suffer from disease is 'compassionate'. Ignoring the problem is not going to fix it. Leaving them loose will only compound the problem. There is a lesser of two evils and putting them humanely to sleep is it. It's the best we can do right now but if we all work hard to educate people and encourage adoption and spay & neuter then in the future maybe killing them won't be a forced option. :)

It's better to take them in and try to find them homes than to leave them on the street to keep breeding or die of starvation, disease or worse. What are you talking about? Here we have a HUGE fur industry that isn't regulated. The only reason we kill (electrocute) animals here before we skin them is because most have delecate fur folicles (chinchillas) or are vicious (minks, foxes)

As I read through the comments on this video, someone pointed out how the animals are loved by shelter personnel in their last moments, and by god, that is the truth. THEY make the animals' lives comfortable at the end. THEY hold them as they're being euthanized and taking their last breaths. THEY feel their bodies go limp as the euthanasia drugs circulate through their veins and you can smell it on their breath. Do not EVER tell me shelter personnel don't care.
I think that was me but I can't remember haha. Some people don't SEEM they care. But like it says in the video, you never get over what they have to do. Each time they euthanize, it emotionally feels like their first time. It's just as hard each time.
Some guys (and women) just like to seem "macho" & just hide their feelings so it doesn't seem they care (trust me when i went to a shelter & i saw a family turn in their dog & 5 minutes later the dog was euthanized, and when I asked the guy if he euthanized the dog already, he seemed like he didn't care at all when he told me yes. I was angry b/c he acted like it was no big deal) But we don't know what they go through... and I KNOW they do care!

Its not the people who are responsible about owning an intact pet, but rather those who breed and just dont give a shit. I choose to keep my males intact for their health. My rescue is a female and shes spayed. I have never bred and never will :)

Over the years I have gotten all of my pets at the shelter. I have never bought a pet at the pet store. Shelter animals make excellent pets. When a person rescues them that pet is very loyal to them.

If i had money i would open up a no kill shelter and if they were way too many animals i would give them away for free rather than being killed. You see how expensive it is to buy a dog or cat at a pet store. But if its free or cheap to get a pet than people should go to these shelters and adopt. I wish i could help someway

all the blame goes to the breeders (even the responsible ones) and irresponsible owners. no matter what kind of dog you want, you can find a rescue group. whether it be an english bulldog or a cockapoo, puppy or old, there are rescue groups with dogs that need homes. STOP buying from breeders and pet stores.

as someone who works at an animal shelter, these people need to contact their local government and change their laws regarding animal care. there are many shelters who have no-kill rules or only euthanise in extreme circumstances, and there's really no excuse for a shelter to have to put that many animals to sleep. if they're full, send animals to another shelter. make a foster program. bring in volunteers to socialize the animals. apply for grants or set up fundraisers.

I live in an area with a high euthansia rate. They move the animals into other shelters when they have space. they have foster programs. They have volunteers- actually they don't have a paid staff anymore. They run fundraisars and ask for grants.
It' d be nice, but it's not always possible.

I think a good solution is for shelters to offer very cheap/free dog training classes for owners and very cheap/free spay and neutering for this animals.

There's tons of stray cats where I live, I try to take care of them, most were dumped off at my house.There's too many to get them fixed,I can barely pay for their food.Getting them fixed and taking them to a vets not an option.Most of the cats are girls I heard it cost $20 to put them up for adoption or get them put to sleep, spaying cost $80. They're really sick and hurting.I know if I keep them then they'll get pregnant and have more suffering babies. I wish I had another option... :'(

I honestly believe Nathan Winograds theory of no kill shelters. We need more education for people to not breed thier animals. To kill is totally disgusting and I would never ever donate to a kill shelter when there are many other ways. I just recently adopted an 11 year old rottweiler from a shelter. Another thing I forgot is that my shelter is located in Lancaster County PA, home of the amish. We have to deal with them breeding and abusing animals. The amish claim that it is against their religion to spay/neuter the animals. If any of you have ever seen Oprahs puppy mill episode, then you know what we are up against. Lancaster needs to find another way to draw in tourists!

Not only to people have to spay/neuter their pets, they should keep them until their final day of life. I work at a shelter, I am animal care/euth tech and rescue coordinator, I feel the pain of murder. So many animals are surrendered to us because the owner is moving and can not take it with them, because of allergies, because they had a baby, the cat hates the new puppy, the saddest is "I just do not want it anymore." I think the biggest problem is that people think animals are disposable.

Does your whole family get along with pets? Any allergies in the household? What's the condition of each family members? Does your other pets get along with new pets? I live in Germany now and there are no "Kill Shelters". There are many, many unwanted pets here too but they get a chance. This is not comparable to a slaughterhouse or fur trade. If they had the funding, they would not euthanize so many animals. They work there for the animals they can adopt out. The ones they can save. They don't euthanize animals and sell their fur to make money. I am in rescue and you cannot save all the animals. I work at a shelter, and I have to help with the Euthanizations. To those who think we can STOP it..how?? The ONLY way is to get your pets altered, quit buying pets, and adopt from the shelters..it will take YEARS to help the situation.
If you feel shelter workers are in the wrong...go to a shelter & volunteer, Go save the animal who was freed because it is more humane and help save it after it was hit on the road, or starving, or dying of a disease!

I do NOT think that shelter workers are in the wrong - totally opposite! The more one gets introduced with animal rescue, the more the hate to humans can grow. As they just dump their sick or old or inconvenient animals. It IS very sad, but by the way, you treat the animals, how you behave when you put them asleep, it is still better than letting them suffer anymore. The humans mind must change. They must be aware that a pet belongs for a life time, not for a mood. Thank you for being so kind to the shelter animals, so that their last days are not too bad.

You may not be able to help the ones in the video, but you can help prevent more animals from suffering this fate. Educate your friends, family, and public officials. Talk about the importance of spay/neuter to prevent the unwanted births. Help stop the killing. Encourage people to adopt from rescue groups and shelters. DON"T BUY PETS FROM PET SHOPS!!! ADOPT!!!! I can't even imagine how letting animals starve to death and suffer from disease is 'compassionate'. Ignoring the problem is not going to fix it. Leaving them loose will only compound the problem. There is a lesser of two evils and putting them humanely to sleep is it. It's the best we can do right now but if we all work hard to educate people and encourage adoption and spay & neuter then in the future maybe killing them won't be a forced option. :)

They slaughter the animals in massive quantities although not as cruelly as some cases in China u might add. So i don't get how u dragged India into this either

thats aweful! this makes me want to go hug my cats and dogs my grandmother adopted a dog from this lady who wasnt able to take care of him anymore...and she found out weeks later that if she wouldnt of took him from her he'd be in a shelter :'( and thank god she took him hes a beautiful dog and very loving

i literally cried big time in this.....its just so sad. killing them while they think they are gonna go home to a great place but instead they get gassed to death!...i cried so hard on this. please let this stop! who even thought of this idea of killing them when they are unwanted.

Whats up with the country bashing? killing these animals are no different from killing cows or pigs for food. they're animals too. So don't be hypocrites. we're humans, we take out rain forests and kill "wildlife". We literally pollute this planet. Wanna help this planet? End the human race.

um ok well at least we don't skin animals alive just for their fur. we don't enjoy burning animals alive & put it on Tv, we don't eat dogs, we don't have mass euthanasia of all pets b/c we think they all have rabies. If you wanna know a TRUE inhumane country? Just ask China... and other countries. In other countries pets are "property" but most people here see them as family

What are you talking about? Here we have a HUGE fur industry that isn't regulated. The only reason we kill (electrocute) animals here before we skin them is because most have delecate fur folicles (chinchillas) or are vicious (minks, foxes)

True, Americans don't generally eat dogs. But we eat cows, goats, chickens, turkeys, and pigs (which are smarter than dogs.) What is the difference? That they are labled "livestock"? Well with America's huge business of puppy mills they are pretty darn close.

Ok well this is all off topic, but I was just trying to defend our country since there are many GREAT things about America & scott labeling us as sick people isn't very nice & it's not true. Other countries are way more inhumane than we are, but you are right, we're not perfect

so very sad!....theres a person out there who has alot to answer for for each animal thats put to sleep due to there neglect!...a animal is for life!!!!!...i have a yorkshire terrier which was a rescue dog, she had two days left before we got her ,else she also would of been put to sleep!

As I read through the comments on this video, someone pointed out how the animals are loved by shelter personnel in their last moments, and by god, that is the truth. THEY make the animals' lives comfortable at the end. THEY hold them as they're being euthanized and taking their last breaths. THEY feel their bodies go limp as the euthanasia drugs circulate through their veins and you can smell it on their breath. Do not EVER tell me shelter personnel don't care.

I think that was me but I can't remember haha. Some people don't SEEM they care. But like it says in the video, you never get over what they have to do. Each time they euthanize, it emotionally feels like their first time. It's just as hard each time.

Some guys (and women) just like to seem "macho" & just hide their feelings so it doesn't seem they care (trust me when i went to a shelter & i saw a family turn in their dog & 5 minutes later the dog was euthanized, and when I asked the guy if he euthanized the dog already, he seemed like he didn't care at all when he told me yes. I was angry b/c he acted like it was no big deal) But we don't know what they go through... and I KNOW they do care!

This makes me cry. 0:36, look at his face. My dad is thinking about taking my dog to the pound but he'd just end up like these. Look at all these animals, imagine how it would be sitting in there, knowing that you most likely wil die after 6,3, or 9 days. Adopt from pounds.

cherneyrox, we that euthanize unwanted pets are cleaning up the mess made by those that don't want to take responsibility. We kill innocent animals because it's illegal to kill irresponsible pet owners. You could build the largest shelter in the world and it wouldn't stop overpopulation, only education and spay/neuter will.

How would u like it noone wanted u and u had to be euthanized cuz noone wanted u? u DO NOT MURDER UNWANTED PEYS PERIOD! I VOLUNTEER @ A SHELTER THAT ONLY PUTS DOWN BITE CASES, REALLY MEAN DOGS, AND TERMINALLY ILL PETS REGARDLESS OF KENNEL SPACE.

I think that this should be required viewing for every moron who thinks it's funny to post videos of their dogs and cats mating on this site. People think it's a riot to tape their dogs "having sex" and then when the puppies are born they just take them down to the shelter because "someone will want them". Well, most of them are going to end up just like this while those people are at home having a ball watching their dogs make another litter of pound puppies.
