the first violinist is too talented for the other players...violin2 and viola need to interact more and play the sixteenth notes more staccato when the piece modulates into F major...the cellist is just plain WEAK...i've yet to ever meet a good female cellist...sorry ladies; the truth hurts dont it?(and by the way i DARE anyone to go toe to toe with me when it comes to how Mozart should be played...i'm an expert.)
Not only are my balls exponentially bigger than both of yours, but I also am indisputably more knowledgeable about Mozart because I studied under him.
Um...I really don't think you can say this if you are not a professional musician. They get paid, so obviously this is good. You are an amateur. (Most likely) Also, not to be rude, but you suck.
It is true that the triplet runs and group intonation could have had more polishing. Nonetheless, the tempo of this interpretation and the general tone of the first violin is commendable. There's an excellent recording from the Cleveland Quartet
I'm playing in a professional quartet since 5 years and we've just play this quartet arround 20 times for concerts, so I think I know what I'm talking about concerning the intonation and classical style. I just wanted to give an advice...
Nancy's my teacher! (Nancy Oliveros) and Ray is my quartet coach! (Ray Shows) YAY! They are AMAZING! They really captured Mozart's music! They always do!
First and foremost, I love Mozart's music. I can't think of any other composer who wrote such awesome music in every category, from Operas to small Chamber pieces. However, FJ Haydn's S.Quartets, when compared with Mozart or anyone else, are just plain and simply BETTER.. FJH's violin scores and contexture are unsurpassed. I wish classical artists would explore these works and play them more often, then maybe people would realize his genius.......
i agree about mozart being the man, but i never heard haydn's violin compositions. this only musical pieces I hear from haydn are symphonies and the trumpet concerto. eventhough haydn is the father of string quartets, I cant argue his greatness also.
Take the time to explore the Haydens. In fact there is a particular set of them (anyone out there care to provide the specifics which right now elude me?) which are stunningly modern in their dramatic and emotional content, while others are admittedly repetitive, though never poorly crafted.
Pkt171-I own the Decca/London CD complete set by the Aeolian String Quartet recorded in the early 70's. This set is difficult to find and rightful so, because when compared to others it contains the most stunning performances of FJH's String Quartets. The Lindsays Quartet, a more modern group, do an excellent job as well. Check out their 2-DVD set of FJH String Quartets. It possesses well crafted interpretations.
If you want to broaden your knowledge of Haydn. On YouTube check out Rostropovich's 1976 performances of Haydn's Cello Concertos. Rostro plays Haydn superbly. As a matter of fact, Rostropovich's fingers move so fast they are a blurrrr. The eighth and sixteenth notes he plays of Cello Concerto No. 1-III. Allegro molto should be put the Guiness Book of World Records for the fastest.
I agree on the Haydens--they've gone underrated, containing loads of sturm und drang, endearing melody and great amount of inventiveness when you consider his status as precursor vis-a-vis mozart and beethoven.
intonation is tooooooo bad.

martiniboy64 do you know the string piece written by Mozart that beethoven "used" for ode to joy? it was in a minor key originaly.
