i use 2 be scared of chime clocks wen i was 1-6, but now i think there awesome! but....at night.......the clock at my aunts house used 2 chime and that scared me, so she disabled the chimes. 2day i think its awesome by day, but at night, i always lay awake trying to go to sleep before it chimes 0-0.

There are at least two chime rods that are struck together for volume that are slightly out of tune from each other. That is why you are getting the creepy wave pattern when it strikes. Music to some, nails on chalk board to others. Pretty clock though.
