You were the one that sang this piece with so much depth. I have no words to say what you meant to me.

It is a personal loss in a way, as you sang and I sat in front of my speakers for hours trying to understand how you sang these verses. You did convey the feel of these words that were written a long time ago.

Aitraaf is impeccably beautiful. Through Aitraaf, Asrar ul Haq Majaz felt the beauty which he failed to own. I am happy for that; otherwise we all could remain unaware of such a poetry. It makes me warm every time I listen to it. A Muslim poet and a Hindu singer is a great confluence. Can’t we stop the nonsense of racism? I think the bonding that we Indians held since 1526 AD is more immaculate than all the political orgies. Even so much colossal bloodshed can’t stop love, the chief religion.

Though I love Awaara more but the impersonification of beauty and pain that seamlessly weave its web in our heart through these words of Majaz are incomparable to any that I've known so far. Loved your view on religion and love. Truly, we all are same. Even if we are told so by our parents and elders that respect our religion. I would say they misinterpreted the message and forgot to teach us to respect our neighbor's religion first. Today love looks more like hatred.

the agony is almost palpable. The lover returns only after the youth has fled. the loss is unbearable and the poetical lament is the result. Mjaz was and is the epitomy of poetry and inspired Sahir Ludhiyanvi!

any one remember the incomparable poetry in his work 'Talkhiyan'??

What's your point dear? Aitraaf was a mere wishful thinking. He never got his love back again as she married another man and got settled in Delhi. While Majaz quit his AIR job, became a compulsive alcoholic & eventually had many nervous-breakdowns. One of them killed him.

Paradise Lost cant compare to Aitraaf at all. Did you read Paradise Lost? Did you follow Milton's metaphors of realism? None of them are as individualistic as its in Aitraaf.

But yes, his agony was too palpable.

you have crystallised my point in your last sentence.I am not comparing the two works. Every one expresses their own loss differently and with just the same intensity as the other man but poets rise slightly above the average !

no two works are ever comparable and least of all Paradise Lost I used it just as a metaphor,and the lives of the two poets is so culturally and materialistically different , but i was referring to the agony described in words, and just a snapshot.

@Psyche1954 Oh! you are right, metaphorical representation of agony and anguish need not be bound unto cultural and materialistic differences. But the pain of separation and futile anticipations of rejoining misses in Paradise Lost.

Milton took a stance of presenting the whole human existence & its religion. Milton tried the metaphysical curiosity through religion, which instantly turns me off.

I would remain a meager individualist and die in vain rather feeling the pain of whole idea of life.

@Psyche1954 In fact read any of the poetry, and most of them will be more about individual agony or bliss than a make-believe image of larger than life picture. Simplicity never lacks among poets like Khusrow, Mir and Khayyam and so many others up there.

Even the greats like Ghalib who remained a sympathy seeker all his life, though on the other hand his blasphemous mentor Khayyam had a hard feelings towards this emotional disorder.

Majaz was just an adorable child compared to these laureates.

This nazam is written by Asrar-Ul-Haq Majaaz who is the maternal uncle of Jawaid Akhtar. By the way Jawaid Akhtar's father is the famous Janisar Akhtar.

Story goes that Majaaz's father compiled the first Ghalib's diwan in India.

Majaaz as he was called was educated in Aligarh Muslim University and died very very young.

@docaraidocarai - Urdu poetry should be left in its original form as there are no equivalent words in the English language. If you want to enjoy Urdu poetry I invite you to learn the language which is extremely simple to start. After that read as much as you can find and let time find those tracks that will lead you to the watering hole.

It has taken me about 62 years to understand a few words but this quest is full of rewards.
