  • couldn't the song have been 13:37?

  • I don't have long enough hair to listen to this track.

  • FUCKING DELIVERANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I hate death metal for the most part... Opeth is my favorite band by far

  • @def3mno62 I dont even think they are death metal, more of a prog. band.

  • @skysnipeh agreed. especially with the new album which was fucking amazing

  • @def3mno62 me too...opeth are opeth, that's all...

  • @def3mno62 Same! Bloodbath and Opeth are the closest I'll go to death metal. And the Bloodbath singer is the same as Opeth.

  • does anyone know what kind of cymbals were used in the drum recording for this song?

  • @skysnipeh Martin Lopez uses Sabian cymbals. I love their hi-hats and thin ride cymbals but think Paste blows them out of the water (see Nick Barkers ccymbal work on Puritania Euphoric Misanthropia with Dimmu borgir) beautiful sounding splash, crash, chinas and ping rides, but fragile as with all high quality tone cymbals

  • from 10:00 love it

  • sweet disney font for opeth...

  • The last 3 minutes are EPIC!!! Opeth made me change my mind about Death Metal :D

  • In this photo: The only lineup that matters.

  • You know a song is great when its outro lasts for about 4 minutes.

  • Any drummers out there try playing this to a click track? Hard as fuck! I got it but I need new pedals for a more consistent run. Or I just need to really work on my settings.

  • @moonpeeple The double bass fucks me hard when playing this on drums but the outro is fun as fuck to jam

  • What's with the 9 "dislikes"??!! Fuck you, assholes!

  • @VioletFlameScotland justin biever fans trolling around.

  • Damn, notice that Peter Lindgren (the first guy in left) had to open his legs a little bit just to make the impression that he's almost the same height that the others hahah

  • Godlike 5 min outro!

  • The best moment - 0:00 - 13:39

  • Drown me any day.....

  • ONE OF THE BEST OUTRO TO A SONG EVER !!!!!

  • This has now become Swedish folksong. Everybody hums deliverence at christmas time.

  • Its juvenile to compare drummers as better than another. Such arguments are not productive. The fact is Lopez left of his own accord, so its disrespectful to hate on Axe simply because he's not Lopez. It is what it is. If you like the band, then continue to like the band. Don't hate because things change.

  • When the word Epic was formed, Mikael's face was forged.

  • I'm sorry, but Axe outplays nearly everyone in the business, López included.

  • @Xoutravolta I'd have to respecfully disagree. I mean this song alone has such amazing drums. I like Axe, but I personally haven't heard anything to blow me away in the same way Lopez does.

  • @amonanonymous I like Lopez' creativity a lot. But I do not like the instability of his playing (mostly in the last couple of years). And Axe does blow me away, of course not in the same way since he's another person. Drums on Watershed and Heritage are damn awesome.

  • My Kill Ark Felt . . .

  • 9:38 so epic *-*

  • Is my internet connection down? The video suddenly stopped at 13:39...

  • Does anyone know what the time signature is at the recurring beat near the end of the song?

  • @hideinthehole Its 4 bars of 4/4. From 9:38 onward is 4/4 if that answers your question.

  • The drums at 9:48 are beyond amazing.

  • The last 5 minutes are the best!!

what the hell is Selena Gomez doing in this list?

  • Saw Opeth with Axe in Salt Lake City on 24th October, and I can assure you beyond any doubt he has all the finesse necessary to fill Lopez's spot. Listen to Heritage, and do so without a pre-determined judgement that its not Lopez and therefore not as good. If you can open your mind long enough to see how graceful this guy really easy, you'll all stop hating on Axe and maybe even respect Mikael's choice of replacement. I felt the same way as many of you until I saw them play. What a mindfuck!

  • @drumeshopeth Agreed. Have seen them two times, both with Axe drumming. One word. Amazing. Opeth are in the most mature moment of their career. And Axe couldn't help more.

Can't wait till FUCKIN March to see them!

  • @drumeshopeth Not only that, but half the drums Axe plays on Watershed and Heritage cannot be played by Lopez. And on Lamentations Lopez is as instable as a newbie drummer, the speed goes up and down all the time

  • @Thystonius Well let's not go too far. Lopez will always be my favorite. Lamentations makes me jizz in my pants. The Deliverance outro has an orgasmic latin-type syncopation that Lopez incorporates throughout his work with Opeth, which played a major part in defining Blackwater Park-Ghost Reveries that I also don't honestly feel Axe could have brought. Which is not to say Axe doesn't add his own touch to Heritage and Watershed that Lopez could not have. These era come and go. It's Axe's time now

  • @drumeshopeth Agreed (except Lamentations is not in my possession, because it didn't really appeal to me - I have Roundhouse Tapes and HAL). Recently bought Ghost Reveries and Watershed, I like both albums a lot. Ghost of Perdition is my all-time favourite song of Opeth and could not have been created with Axe. But I just totally love the crazy drumfills in some songs of Watershed, not to say the blastbeats and some other elements. I'm just tired of people calling for Lopez - Axe's awesome too.

  • @Thystonius I am definitely a fan of Axe's blasts and jazzy flourishes. He used rods, sticks, mallets, and brushes at the concert I saw. He is a master. Lopez will always have the same special place in my heart that BWP, Deliverance, Damnation, Ghost Reveries had. Axe makes Heritage and Watershed very special.

  • @drumeshopeth Totally agree :-)

  • @Thystonius Not to mention if you listen to Heritage Axe's drumming on that is some of the best I've ever heard.

  • @Nubnut I just listened to the whole album and I'm amazed at the quality of Axe's drumming on that album as much as you. Any person stating that Axe doesn't have the feel Lopez had either is not a drummer or needs to listen to the newest album. Although on Watershed you can hear this finesse already

  • I hate to be that guy, but......9 people are stupid fuckfaces.

  • @darijek couldn't agree more

  • mikael's face looks like: how do they make a square photograph out of a round lens :\

  • @metaldemon52 whoa deep man

  • @metaldemon52 lol, im a photographer and i dont know either XD

  • i find hard to believe those drums were totally recorded by Lopez

  • thats opeth? i thought they were like older guys

  • @TheUnforgiven90 Maybe its because they're 10 years ahead of their time, dare I say

  • @TheUnforgiven90 also, the singer is the only original memeber.... hes the guy in the middle

  • Trivia: they never played this song after the song "blackwater park" (or the other way around). If they did, the sky would open up and swallow the earth in a vortex of ultimate awesomeness.

  • Best line-up. Man, I miss this and the Blackwater Park days.....discussions about the "new" opeth have been around the block many times, but I just love their back catalogue. Each phase of their career has its merits and high points, so it's a win-win. However, there's just something special about everything up until Ghost Reveries. I just feel like it's a more "pure" sound. idk hahaha it's all good Opeth is good no matter what.

  • @9keyboardz9 that's because Lopez left right after finishing recording Ghost Reveries. In my opinion he brought a lot of soul and feeling to the group. Not discounting Axe, who is a terrific drummer in his own right. But while he has the metal parts down he just doesn't have the light touch and jazz feel that Lopez brought to the group, which this song showcases beautifully .

  • @babytweeze85 I agree, Lopez's drumming on this album was incredible

  • @babytweeze85 I never noticed that until now. You are very correct, but Axe's drumming on some tracks like "The Devils Orchard" are also mindblowing.

  • Warning: your computer speakers might not be loud enough for the epicness.

  • I'm trying to write a piano+voice cover for this, and my free software won't let me make timing changes after I've started putting notes in, it took me an hour to work out all the suitable timing changes :(

  • Epic! Fucking Epic!

  • The prog end is just amazing.

  • is that seth green?

  • One of the songs i care deeply about

  • Comment removed

  • This song has the coolest breakdown outro ever conceived!!

  • @Fleshy91 i agree... the drums on the outro are fucking tight... well... the whole everything about this song is fucking rediculously diverse.... one minute its growls and the next its a 7/8 smooth almost jazzy groove...

  • @Fleshy91

that's a bold claim! there are some other really good breakdown outros in Opeth's catalogue. I really like the one from Reverie/Harlequin Forest

  • @Fleshy91 totally dude....

  • Dream theater is...

  • This music will live forever. Opeth is absolutely brilliant. There's no better music to drive long distances to.

  • @ultimatemetalfreak I couldnt agree more, especially since alot of there amazing songs are over 7 minutes (leper affinity, april ethereal, blackwater park, black rose immortal, deliverance, the moor, patterns in the ivy) it makes time fly by.

  • I got cut off at 9:54 from a previous video, I continued to this one to listen to the best part.

  • @NauseaDrums The best part? I think the whole song is the best part XD.

  • Where did you find tht splendid pic?? 6:55 Oh man.

  • Where did you find tht splendid pic??

  • 9:58 :Q_______

  • Jack daniels the amazing ability!

  • Bieng drunk the amazing ability!

  • WOW

  • Genial

  • IN MY OPINION THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG.

  • @darkane2012 yes i believe it has every aspect of Opeth in this song=epic ear....gaaassmmmmm

  • @Aguywithsticks yea....agreed...

  • ghost scars

  • I'm not a big fan of Opeth (don't judge me, it is a question of taste) but i love the part that starts at 09:40...the rhythm is great and I always drum it with my hands for the last 5 years!!!

  • @skachBP Hey I agree! I'm not the biggest fan too, for my own reasons, but I also love certain passages from Opeth, like the rhythmic section you pointed out :) I'm Macedonian too, coincidence? haha. (I don't speak much though... from Canada).

  • Numero Uno!!!!

  • To me Thinking as if there was no Opeth is like thinking of Death...

  • there needs to be way more "likes" for this tune!!!

  • I don't use the word 'epic' as lightly as everyon else does, but for Opeth's sake....

  • @GeneralMaximus4 Proggy as in progressive.

  • im sort of new to opeth as well. if i could only get one to three albums which would u recomend?

  • @thrashtilmegadeath It I guess depends if you like the "older" or "newer" Opeth sound more. I'd go with Ghost Reveries, Blackwater Park then maybe.....Still Life? Or Watershed. It's hard to choose when they have so many solid albums

  • @thrashtilmegadeath I'd go for Still Life, Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries. For me those three sum up the 'core' of Opeth's style as of now (i.e. before Heritage).

If you like melodic death metal you should get Morningrise, and if you like progressive rock you should get Damnation too.

Their new album Heritage comes out in September, I'm speculating it will sound like a jazzy prog rock album, like a combination of Pain of Salvation and Dream Theater, we will see if I'm right.

  • @thrashtilmegadeath stilllife is my favorite. it's both heavy and soft. Damnation is my second favorite but it has no screams. then my 3rd would either be this one (deliverance) watershed or Ghost Reveries. or Blackwater Park. my third favorite is always changing haha

  • The last five minutes are so proggy, it's frickin awesome.

  • 4o\m/

  • excuse me im new to opeth recomend some very good songs please :)

  • @AlternativeTaco The Funeral Portrait, the Baying of the Hounds, The Lotus Eater (:

  • @SigmaDraconisIV why thank you :)

  • Legendary band...........nuff said

  • 9:38 until the end of the song.... how did they create that?

  • I rather win than be nothing for the rest of my life

  • I rather be this way than hate my life

  • BEST. OUTRO. EVER.

  • @darijek

    DRUMS OF DOOM!!!

  • this song is awesome to work out to

  • deadly workout song if you're pissed off...esp towards the end..the repetition is compelling

  • If only it was 2 seconds shorter.

  • @Fythbro the actual length is 13:36, so he should have only wasted 1 second :P

  • @Fythbro I don't get it. ._.

  • @WarPigsLukesWall

    leet 1337 13:37 instead of 13:39

  • @thyshallbedone I don't know what "leet" is. You don't have to explain it though. I'll just look it up. Thank you for clarifying.

  • i cannot describe my love for this song....opeth is absolutly incredible

their harmonic and dark choir metalish sound gets me every time i put on a song

they are one of the most real bands ive ever had the pleasure to listen to.....the ending to this song should go down in history as one of the most passionate and beautiful pieces of music in history......opeth is phenominal

  • Respect for low punch

  • its times like this, when i listen to opeth, that i miss having really long hair.

  • What is difficult and what is fair.

  • 9:58. ENGAGE HEADBANG

  • ill show you why dancing in one spot looks good.

  • responisible

  • not afraid

  • Dirt meat tatto

  • normal birds hide here

  • opeths tattos are god

  • I´ve found the most useless but interesting thing on this song.

At the outro, there are parts where I believe Steven Wilson´s or Akerfeldt´s voice is mixed with a guitar, exactly at these times:

    10:37 - 10:47 - 10:57

    11:36 - 11:46 - 11:56

12:35 - 12:45 - 12:55 this one being the last one made with only the guitar.

  • 4o\m/

  • First Opeth song I ever heard back when this album first came out. Went on to buy all their albums since.

  • I wasn't an Opeth fan before this song, but i am now. Shotgun!

  • real life toki

  • 9:38 is one of the heaviest riffs ive ever heard in my entire life

  • @guitarsfromhell77 in great competition with reverie/harlequin forest from 10:00 and out.

  • I Flagged this Video. Some innocent faces could be melted off with vids like these around...

  • 7:37 oh shit!

  • 5 people didnt listen past 9:40

  • @Jamiestirk yeaaaahhh

  • I listen to this song when i'm waiting for a pizza "delivery"... XD

  • @CamelF4ce You're a dumbshit

  • @CamelF4ce I listen to this song when I am delivering your pizza!

  • @CamelF4ce

you could also play it in the 'delivery' room

    :D

  • @CamelF4ce i guess your comment is appropriated to your name

  • @CamelF4ce nice nickname

  • @CamelF4ce lol if you can listen to the whole thing the pizza is free!

  • @CamelF4ce haha

  • @CamelF4ce lmaooo..... this song is also as long as it should take to deliver the pizza...

  • Joey is a sloppy drummer and he's not even that fast If you compair him to alot of the fast paced metal drummers out there. Creativity > speed.

  • Finally a full version of this song. I hate it when the last couple minutes are cut off, just kills the vibe of the whole thing

  • "this song is aweosme!!" - captain obvious on deliverance by opeth

  • @02theknot94 Joey is bad ass but IDK so!!!!! Listen to other song. Just cuz someone can play fast its way harder to play slower jams!

  • @02theknot94

Jordison just blast beats well, big deal, there are WAY more elements to a good drummer then just blast beating

  • @02theknot94 joey is alright but sorry.... martin lopez is way better ok...he has more than just speed bass drums and 32nd note fills

  • @02theknot94 Sorry dude, but this guy owns Joey. Joey is way overrated. The only reason everyone jizzes over him is because he's in a famous band. This guy has groove. He can go from playing metal to jazz to whatever seamlessly. That's what makes a good drummer. Not just banging the drums as fast as you can.

  • @hatespreader666 waht!? some idiot was comparing Martin Lopez to that over rated dip shit Jordison??? I always loved Lopez's finesse on the drums, so I was really sad when he left the band and they replaced him with Axenrot, who is by comparison, an unsophisticated drum smasher.

  • @luke666808g I know what you mean. Listening to Lopez is just awesome when you compare him to so many metal drummers out there who seem to only know how to go as fast as they can and attempt to hold a beat. That's why Opeth is so amazing, they just merge so many styles into one orgasm

  • @02theknot94 you're a fuckin idiot bro.

  • @02theknot94 HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LMAO!!!!!!!!.... you were kidding us right?

  • @02theknot94 your kidding right. joey is a VERY good drummer. but he has nothing on this guy. you can tell just by listening. Joey is 90% speed 10% techinque. This guy is almost all techique and faster than joey. its not even close
