I'm part Hawaiian, part native American, and though I have been exiled to the East Coast for part of my life I have always had a concern for the islands let alone mother earth because that is where my family is so my concern though not an Islander is still very strong. I am an Environmentalist by modern definition. My degree is in Natural Resources Management so my beliefs lead me to want to protect what we have and I agree we should preserve it.
What I am saying is that if there is proof that whales are being struck then it is a fair call to stop it. Let me ask you this, THECAT which runs a high speed ferry service between Maine and Nova Scotia has whales in its route most of its season, but they still operate, how does that work and the SUPERFERRY not? Also being an Educated Merchant Mariner I have a pretty strong understanding of Maritime law, and which law are the breaking again?
In terms of Environmental law, the reason I brought up Young Bros, Matson, and inter-island airlines is when was the last time they did an EIS or ER? Every time they get underway or in the air, there is a chance an invasive species could be aboard, are there inspectors on the barge, ship or aircraft to check, no!
Like I said the last time if there is proof they are hitting whales, I will join your side and immediately call for changes but until then I feel that the Superferry should be able to run. I know my family wants to use it because some of them cannot fly, and this serves as a viable safe option of inter island travel since they are spread across the islands.

I will be happy to admit I have been removed from the islands, but I am back there a lot to see my family out there and I am in touch with the islands enough to have an informed opinion from the perspectives of the environmentalist, the mariner (the guys doing the job) and concerned citizen so here are the replies to your statements:

Evidently you don't know me... I'm part Hawaiian, part native American, and though I have been exiled to the East Coast for part of my life I have always had a concern for the islands let alone mother earth because that is where my family is so my concern though not an Islander is still very strong. I am an Environmentalist by modern definition. My degree is in Natural Resources Management so my beliefs lead me to want to protect what we have and I agree we should preserve it.

What I am saying is that if there is proof that whales are being struck then it is a fair call to stop it. Let me ask you this, THECAT which runs a high speed ferry service between Maine and Nova Scotia has whales in its route most of its season, but they still operate, how does that work and the SUPERFERRY not? Also being an Educated Merchant Mariner I have a pretty strong understanding of Maritime law, and which law are the breaking again?

In terms of Environmental law, the reason I brought up Young Bros, Matson, and inter-island airlines is when was the last time they did an EIS or ER? Every time they get underway or in the air, there is a chance an invasive species could be aboard, are there inspectors on the barge, ship or aircraft to check, no!

Like I said the last time if there is proof they are hitting whales, I will join your side and immediately call for changes but until then I feel that the Superferry should be able to run. I know my family wants to use it because some of them cannot fly, and this serves as a viable safe option of inter island travel since they are spread across the islands.

just out of curiosity was this supposed to convince me that superferry is bad. because it didn't. Your point that it will kill whales, if there is proof, evidence that they are striking the whales and killing them than that is one thing. Im saying just be logical. AS I SAID I would not hire you to sell anything. Also you all are calling out the superferry, so should matson and young bros stop their service as well. Oh hell, stop all inter island flights and become isolationist again.

I don't understand why people theorize the killing of whales before it happens and attempt to stop it. Kind of like arresting a rapist because you think he will.
