@kunkle493 dude are u high 4 sayin dat cause Cutler has been in the League for 6 yrs now and Elway did mor in his 6 years than Cutler has ever done Elway made it to the playoffs 4 times and back 2 back Super Bowls and League MVP in 87 and made a name for him self in the NFL after "THE DRIVE" in his 6yrs and Cutler has been to da playoffs once and 0 Super Bowl appearances so no Cutler is not better than Elway=Winner Cutler=Loser [HAPPY 51st BIRTHDAY ELWAY]
@kunkle493 Cutler is good I admit. Elway stared in 5 Super Bowls. More career wins than any QB besides Farve Who played tell he collected social security. Elway was unreal. The teams he took sucked. Ill admit last year was impressive for cutler but if Elway came back at 50 in a bears uniform....going all the way. Cutler keeps geting screwd cause he has to learn a new playbook every year. Mike Martz kills Qbs too. He should sue for having to play behind that line thou.Hes got alot to prove yet!
Those were the good old days, when we had great quarterbacks. In the mid 1980s to mid 1990s, we had the greatest qbs. As great as Brady, Brees, Manning, and Aaron Rodgers are, they are no Montana, Elway, Marino, Young, Aikman, and even Jim Kelly. Today, there aren't that many great QBs. Back in the 1990s, half of the teams had very good to great QBs. We will never have that era of great quarterback play ever again. If I had to win a game trailing in the 4th, give me Joe Montana or John Elway.
its ELWAY or NO WAY! without John Elway the broncos don't make it to the superbowl three times in the 1980s. I miss the those days thank you for this video!
You know what, if John Elway would've went back to the Broncos after that 2nd Super Bowl win the Broncos would have won a 3rd Super Bowl. They would've tied with the Dallas Cowboys with 3 SBs, and they probably would've superpassed Dallas up as "the Team Of The Decade" in the 90's.
@blackandgold51 Fuck the Cowboys. The Broncos were the team of that decade (despite winning less Super Bowls). Because, they were (unlike Dallas) unstoppable offensively and defensively!!
im a mad bronco fan personal i think the best 4 qbs ever are montana elway marion manning who you got at number 1 is you apinion i do think montana manning read defenses better but elway made plays on the run with his arm that them 2 could not i know if i need a drive or a play with a minute to go im picking elway
Elway carried a team of mostly mediocre players to the super bowl three times before his two wins. The other greats had all time great receivers to throw too. Up until Sharpe and Davis showed up the Broncos were John Elway. John Elway is not only the greatest quarterback of all time but the greatest player in the history of the NFL.
@Healthypig1423 So Montana wasn't great with Davis and Birden in Kansas City? In1993, Montana led Kansas City to two playoff comebacks. And proceeding to get to AFC Championship. And pre-1985 receivers like Dwight Clark and Freddie Solomon!!! Plus Montana was more accurate (up to 30 yards) and read defense better!!
@TheEntertainmentonly did he win back to back super bowls with those mediocre recievers? did he lead them 98 yards with under 1 minutes left against a terrifying browns defense?
@MrGreenday1209 No. But he hammered two of the best defense in the AFC playoffs (in Kansas City and Houston). Both of those defenses were arguably better than the '86 Browns!!! And Montana did it against Buddy Ryan's "terrifying" 46 defense, which was considered the second best (after Dallas) in 1993. Buddy Ryan might be the greatest defensive coordinator in NFL history!! He didn't win because of Buffalo. But the Bills were a better AFC team than any AFC team the Broncos faced from 96-98.
@MrGreenday1209 I mention Buddy Ryan because he was the defensive coordinator for the Oilers in 93. My point: the 93 Oilers defense was better than the 86 Browns defense.
@MrGreenday1209 "america thought elway was better so stop your bitching"
Nooooo, the AP thought he should have won, every other organization that gives out an MVP for the NFL thought Jerry Rice was better. I guess it's easier to tell me to "stop your bitching" than telling me why you think Elway deserved the MVP.
Dont Forget Elway has more completions, yards, touchdowns and the Kicker Wins. John Elway won games with when he didnt have much help behind him. Then he gets some help (mainly in the form of Terrell Davis) we saw how great of a player he really was when he didnt have to worry about having to carry the load. anyone to say that John Elway isnt the best needs to just look at wins. Granted Montana played three less seasons but Elway was more of a scrambler therefore taking more of a punishment.
I think you're the one who has a lot to learn. John Elway is overrated. I'll give you his last six seasons in the league were pretty good; however, his career as a whole is pretty mediocre. Montana's TD-INT ratio was 1.96 touchdowns for every interception. Elway's is 1.33. Montana's yards per attempt is 7.5 while Elway's is 7.1. Completion % Montana 63.2, Elway 56.9. Let's not forget that Montana in four Super Bowls threw 11 TDs and 0 INT. Elway 3 TD 8 INT. Also Super Bowl XXIV.
@jannecechmanek stats arnt exactly everything. Joe montana didnt have the same line elway did. he didnt have the same teammates, didnt play agaisnt the exact same opponents. Therefore their stats are going to b different. However i do have to agree that Joe Montana was just simply amazing in the Super Bowl. He always found a way to win no matter what. But to say John Elway is overrated that is false. u gota look at the talent and the qb as a whole not just their stats.
@xXxtaexXx1 Okay let's argue Elway at his best versus Montana at his best.
If you take Elway's best six seasons ('93-'98) he averaged 3543 yards, 23 2/3 td, 11.5 INT, 60.0 %, 7.3 yards per attempt. Now Montana's seasons ('83-'89 except '86) 3458 yards, 26 TD, 11 INT, 64.4 %, 7.9 yards per attempt. Even at their best Montana was still better.
@jannecechmanek ok u misunderstood me or i didnt explain myself clearly. I wasnt saying that or wasnt trying to say that Elway was better than Montana. I was just making the argument that Elway wasnt overrated. He was a great qb. One of the greatest. And i also was saying that stats arnt exactly everything. They do mean a lot but u can't or u shouldn't judge a player stricktly on their stats. Because they don't tell everything about a player. Players arn't always defined by their stats.
@xXxtaexXx1 Yeah he's not one of the greatest. In fact I'll go a step further and say that Steve Young and Kurt Warner were better quarterbacks than Elway. Also Elway's 1987 MVP is a joke.
@jannecechmanek Why was he inducted into the Hall of Fame? And whos saying Kurt Warner and Steve Young arn't better? I never said he was the best i said he was one of the best. One of meaning in a group of great qb's that played the game. And that is just your opinion. Now i respect your opinion and u have a right to voice your opinion and thats fine with me. I don't really care what u think. I do agree with you though that Montana's performences in the post season was just simply amazing.
@xXxtaexXx1 Joe Namath is also in the hall of fame. It just irks me when people say Elway was the best QB ever or one of the best. Usually these people are homers.
@xXxtaexXx1 I should have guessed when you didn't proclaim Elway to be the greatest ever. I don't hate Elway, I just think he's overrated. Although for the most part I do find Broncos fans really obnoxious.
@jannecechmanek Well here is my full take on John Elway. And i know u arn't going to agree and thats cool. Not to sound mean but i dont really care what u think. Its not really going to affect me or change my mind. Just like my opinion wont change yours. But in my eyes, he was a great qb and deserverd to go to the hof. He is my favorite player. I loved to watch him just somehow find a way to win it in the 4th quarter. Now he wasnt perfect. He had flaws. but in my eyes, one of the best qbs ever.
@xXxtaexXx1 Did you ever consider the fact he led so many fourth quarter comebacks because he wasn't so good earlier in the game? Wouldn't a better quarterback not need to comeback in the fourth quarter?
@jannecechmanek No. A great qb wins. I dont care too much how he does it. And Elway has the most wins in the history of the nfl. Now it was great talking to u and all but im done with this.
@jannecechmanek Dan Reeves offense was a run first offense Elway threw in the second half when they were down that's why he had to comeback in the 4th quarter his stats in the 80's and early 90's before Shanahan. Elway would throw 25 to 30 times a game which the majority came when the Broncos were losing in the second half.
@skillkraft Sadly there is no data to back up this claim or deny it fully. However, there is such data from 1992 (Reeves last year) to 1998 and every year Elway had more attempts in the first half than in the second. Skillkraft, you're making an assumption based on your memories, which doesn't mean a whole lot to me.
@jannecechmanek I have a few games from the 80's on tape and when I watch them Elway at half he had 12 to 15 attempts and Reeves managed games with his run first philosophy so if the broncos went up 10 to 7at half they would run the ball majority of the time and then let Elway loose in the late 3rd and 4th quarter, even Reeves after he left the Broncos admitted he didn't use Elway right that's why he had to comeback so often.
@copraiders1 I believe that Montana is probably the Greatest in My opinion. But John Elway a CLOSE 2nd on my list. I saw that Superbowl when I was in the USMC and John Elway's receivers weren't catching anything. They let Elway down. Reason I remember this Superbowl was because I wanted to see the scoreboard and stat sheet ligh on fire that day =(
@SouthMeck2 Montana played in a super-system, with quite a few pro-bowl/hall of fame players. Total number of pro bowl/hall of fame players on John Elways first 3 super bowls? Zero. Elway didnt even have 1 teammate on those first 3 super bowls that made the pro bowl in that year. Elway single handedly took those teams to the super bowl, yea they lost, but no one can do it all. John Elway was the greatest QB of all time, this is being said from a lifelong Raider fan.
@SouthMeck2 Montana is the most over rated QB in league History. He had Jerry Rice Brent Jones one of the leading reciving running backs ever. John taylor Brent Jones and a Dfense that kept the ball in his hands. AND HE HAD ALL DAY TO THROUGH!!! BEST OLINE EEEEEVVVERRRR!!!! ELWAY DID IT WITH NOTHING!!! MARK JACKSON AND VANCE JOHNSON WOULDENT EVEN PLAY FOOTBALL TODAY!!! JERRY RICE I THINK WOULD MAKE THE TEAM!
Elway was always one of my heroes. He was never a big stat guy on Sundays, and no matter what happened for 55 minutes during a game, he would go into warrior mode in the last 5 and win games no matter what.
As a Steeler fan, I draw parallels between him and Ben Roethlisberger all the time. Ben never puts up big stats like Peyton or Brady, but he gets the job done, and since 2004 has more 4th quarter game winning drives than any other QB, including Brady, but most people don't notice.
"We could be down by 14, :45 seconds left, and no time outs. And no one on the sideline thinks we lost yet, because number 7 is going back on the field . . ." Vance Johnson
I don't care how mediocre your team is, as long as you have a player like John Elway on your team. Your team always has a chance to win a football game. Peyton Manning reminds me so much of the great John Elway.
@MrStanza29 I couldn't agree with you more. Just to know how great John Elway was. It was pretty impressive seeing him lead three very average Denver Broncos teams to the superbowl. Unfortunately, the three teams they lost to had more depth and talent than the three Broncos teams in terms of the Giants (lost 39-20), Redskins (lost 42-10), and 49ers (lost 55-10).
out of curiosity (i'm too young to have watched it) but wouldn't it have made more sense if they let the ball go into the endzone and have a touch back?
Elway was a god and the best QB ever because he was some scrappy looking weird little kid who snapped the AFC thirteen game losing streak in the superbowl by doing a helicopter. Once I see some other quarter backs go through that in such a moment. I will admit to others being as good as him.
John Elway was a tremendous QB! The best of all time distinction would be like picking your favorite children. He might have been the best I've ever seen. My favorite tag rests with Mr. Terry Bradshaw.
Terry played with a broken wrist just to win! I live in Pittsburgh and would go about 2 hrs. early just to watch Mr. Bradshaw throw the football. One time I saw Terry throw bullets 60 yds (20 to 20) and the receivers couldn't handle the ball
W. Pa roots Layne,Unitas, Kelly,Ditka,Dorsett gr8t too.
Best QB ever. No doubt about it. The Drive, The Super Bowl Spin. When we Won our first Super Bowl I saw my dad cry, thats the only time I have seen him cry. Thanks John
Grew up in Pittsburgh and a Steelers fan, been watching football since 1972 and Elway is without a doubt the best i have ever seen, he could do it all. He took those first couple of teams to the superbowl and can you right this moment name 3,4 other players on those Bronco squads. It is alot easier to name other pro bowl caliber players on those great 49er, Cowboys and Steeler teams.

Montana wouldn't need to, he'd win comfortably. In fact he did, by two touchdowns in 1987. Speaking of 1987, Elway didn't deserve that MVP.

Theres always a way with John Elway.

I don't care how mediocre your team is, as long as you have a player like John Elway on your team. Your team always has a chance to win a football game. Peyton Manning reminds me so much of the great John Elway.

elway was the best.took 3 shit teams to the bowl in the 80s and he didnt even get along with reeves.i love elway
MrStanza29 1 year ago 5
@MrStanza29 3 shit offenses, those teams had damn good defenses.
broncojuan 1 year ago
@MrStanza29 I couldn't agree with you more. Just to know how great John Elway was. It was pretty impressive seeing him lead three very average Denver Broncos teams to the superbowl. Unfortunately, the three teams they lost to had more depth and talent than the three Broncos teams in terms of the Giants (lost 39-20), Redskins (lost 42-10), and 49ers (lost 55-10).

out of curiosity (i'm too young to have watched it) but wouldn't it have made more sense if they let the ball go into the endzone and have a touch back?
jesusfreak777316 2 years ago
@jesusfreak777316 that woulda made sense before they touched it, but after they did, they had to get the ball or else cleveland gets the ball

Elway was a god and the best QB ever because he was some scrappy looking weird little kid who snapped the AFC thirteen game losing streak in the superbowl by doing a helicopter. Once I see some other quarter backs go through that in such a moment. I will admit to others being as good as him.

yeah... I'm a browns fan with a several broken hearts courtesy of old number 7 but yeah Elway was the real deal.
