  • anyone else really fancy a tennents ?

  • Saw these guys on BBC Breakfast this morning and it reminded me that the ladies Barbershop chorus I used to sing with appeared on it (light green dresses with white bows, Yuk!!). We had to shoot our bit of the vid and learn the words of the whole song in one evening but, if you blink.... you'll miss us.

  • My jaw knowns this

    song before anything I know!

  • I mean that b-ecuz the NUNS calm my heart!

  • wanker

  • what do you call an englishman surrounded by a thousand scotch blokes?...........warden hahahahahahaha !!

  • to stevo can u drink the buckie

  • @MrGaserf so being able to drink yourself into a stupor and suffer no ill effects is a good thing? well thats another thing the english tax payer pays for, liver diseased scottish filth !

  • @TheStevo75 your a dick piss off!!!!!

  • @callumyvb hahahahaha you found it funny really just admit it jock!

  • scottish music is shit! the scottish are crap at everything, even their women come down to england for some real loving! they cant even feed themselves without us english subsidising them! lets face it they get free prescriptions, free university tuition and us english even pay the taxes on their buckfast ffs! hahahaha

  • @TheStevo75 grow the fuck up, clearly your far to immature to be trusted with access to the internet. fool.

  • @TheStevo75 and were crap at everything ? yeah says the guy who's people riot and try to smash up their cities ? clearly you need to go home and rethink your wasted excuse of a life lol

  • @Thompsonf1001 it wasnt the english rioting and looting it was black people hahahahahahaha!!!

  • @TheStevo75 Once again you live up the expectations of total failure. your calling others Nazi's and yet you say that blacks from England aren't English people ? and to add to the failure you clearly didn't watch the news during the riots. it was everyone from tracksuit clad hooligans to the middle-aged and parents actually taking their children out to loot. white and black.

oh well. considering you cant have come from anything more than failed abortion I suppose failure is all you know.

  • @TheStevo75 failed abortion? hahahahaha when you were born the midwife slapped your mom instead of your arse, the best part of you ran down your nans leg hahahahaha, the after birth they threw in the bucket had more going for it that you hahahahaqha!

  • ONE GREAT THING HAPPENS IN MY LIFE.....FROM ZERO BECAME HERO..M.N.A.

  • I love this song and it's sentiment so damn much. I think Big Country had a dud song once but I'll be buggered if I can remember which one it was. :D

  • Great song...so sad the band isn't together any longer...R.I.P. Stuart Adamson...another of our favorites is "In A Big Country" we play every time we cross the border in and out of Canada!

  • Think this came out around '86. Great song that didn't get the play it deserved here in the US though it was likely a hit in Europe.

  • this band was prob my favourite and still are one of my favs, but this song wasn't one of there best still it's better than almost all of the pop/chart music we have now

    RIP Stuart Adamson

  • Hands down, a damn good band, that I WILL NOT forget. Thankfully, I'm positive they have inspired many musicians like myself for the future.

  • Forgot how good this band was. Thanks for putting this video on

  • It's gauge...

  • Why wasn't this a massive hit?

  • @Grichal1981 .....SIGH** Marketing my Dear.... IT does not make it no less a great song for it's passing, because I recognize it as so, and you do as well, and we are lucky for knowing it so! GB(GodBless)

  • @Grichal1981 I NO RITE!!!

  • I love this !

  • Morris Dancing Rulls !!!

    @ 1:37

  • its hard to believe hes gone nearly 10 years and still missed by all his fans

  • Does make you proud. Reminds me of being young and Edinburgh

  • big country with out stuart is not right, its like the police without sting , its stupid

  • This by the way is not 90's... it's from 1986!! (well, the original is)

  • Think you will find it is 'gauge' !!! :)

  • melhor banda dos 80

  • THey are playing around the UK in April 2011, check their website for details..

  • @douginedin Seeing them in Norwich in April, can't wait. Been almost 20 years since i last saw them.

  • Oh the Belly Dancers and Ballerinas Mix, I remember this from Much Music.

  • now wait a sec, american football team in a scottish song ? I mean nothing wrong about that, just the whole video seems like some kind of scottish pride

  • @smoku46 Its not about Scottish pride, its about pride in everything. Theres Morris dancers in there, stuff from everywhere!

  • lovely and amzing 80s!

    see you in heaven Stew....

  • Big Country were genius. These guy's are the proverbial every-man's group they could relate with average work-a-day people. Their lyrics and music are powerful, full of intense meaning and great messages. I'll never tire of listening to them.

What has happened to modern music, why don't groups write and perform like this anymore? What has happened to conscientious music? Does anyone still give a damn?

    Big Country: I miss you.

  • @n8tureboy talent is not required any more. Just the ability to babble a bunch of incoherent negative bullshit about how hard life is for the lies of emininem and such. Plus no one has to bother to actually take the time to learn to play an instrument or hone thir craft like bands in the old days they want their x factor and idol stuff handed to them

  • @lifeson46

Agreed! We've become a fast-food culture. We want it now and we want it cheap.

Unfortunately, good food (music) takes time to prepare and it comes at an expense.

We've gotten fat and happy with all this cheap, cynical culture and guess what? If we don't change our habits, just like fast food , it's gonna' kill us eventually.

When I look around these days I see the walking dead. I'm an optimist, but I'll confess society is in steep decline,IMO.

    BC's music brings hope.

  • How do you manage to get these official videos on youtube when there are others that still have links and just won't play due to "copyright" crap or whatever? I mean you'd think In a Big Country would be here, but it's not.

  • the lyrics of this song speak to all those who have seen war (civil or otherwise) first hand. we should all strive for peace in the world. as well as in our lives.

  • I’ve seen the way of prophets and I’ve seen the way of kings

  • perfect anthem of everyday`s life

  • Ow yeah.

  • one word...

    class

  • Classic Rock Song it rocks

  • Stuarts guitar playing and sound is amazing

  • 1986 from Taken from The Seer

  • @goodman365 ok mate,its just the seer lp,simple as that,no hard feelingz,tiki,belgrade

  • I always love BC's tremendous power, optimism and hope. I was devastated when I learned that Stuart Adamson killed himself. RIP to a friend I never met, and one I hope to one day.

  • RIP Stuart Adamson 1958-2001....the music industry won't be the same without you

  • To put a previous mssg in context- I meant that there are rare positive songs today, compared back in 1980's-not that this song was made today :)

  • A song with a positive message....a rarity in this day :)

  • THIS IS FROM 1986

  • STUART U WERE A NICE GUY

  • BC had a conscience just listen to those awesome lyrics. Why don't groups write music like this anymore? It seems that today's music is so debased and cynical.

Give me BC's music any day and I'm a happy guy.

  • Big Country !!! tenia esa caracteristica de la guitarra celta propio de ellos q hicieron su estilo bravazoo !!!! q buena banda !!! arriba ESCOCIA !!!

  • excellent

  • if theres one great song;)

  • Man's inhumanity to man

    Makes countless thousands mourn.

  • remember we shot some St trinians girls at the london restaurant school dinners. But they don't seem to have made the cut. Although me and another crew member did get two of them in bed! I've never seen this clip before. Happy days! Cameraman was Adrian Wilde.

  • OMG I worked on this video in Sept 86. Director was Storm Thorgeson. Only thing I remember was going all over the country during the course of a week filming the groups of singers. First one was the steam engine guys which took forever and we didn't think we'd get them all done. Miners were in Kent. Swimmers in Dover. Guys on a boat down in Cornwall.

  • @berniemaupin I bet it was fantastic! i loved this band...this song is great but i think in a big country is just their best song, i know everyone says that too but i think it is. its too bad stuart is gone, now ill never get to see them in concert.

  • It is indeed a great song.

  • Not great thing, this is One Great Song...

  • i enjoy this video.

    thanks ur sharing~

  • Does anyone know what magazine those women (models?) work for at 2:45?

  • Awesome and was released in 1986, takes me back to my childhood, a great year for music

  • Well underated song and video, though it was out in 1986 rather than early 90s (though it may of been re-released)

  • this was played at my dads funeral.

one of the few ways i can remember him for the right reasons if through this song (L)

  • I'm sold. Sick F'in song. Unbelievable.

  • If there's one great thing to happen in my life.... let it be the time for peace, let it be a time of right. Legendary, Stuart was a great man, its a shame he couldn't find a way out of his darkness, i guess thats what this cruel world did to him. Did so much in his life, sadly missed.

  • staurt WAS the one great thing rip mate

  • An athem . Big Country :

One of the great things in Scottish music. Glad they happened in my life :-)

  • Fucking excellent...................

  • Aren't Morris Dancers crap!

    Saor Alba

  • get a grip...

they had plenty of success and plenty of hits and Big Country still have an army of fans

just not as much success as they truly deserved

what have you ever achieved in your sad little life that you feel so able to judge? and it's 'guage' by the way, learn to spell!!

  • actually no. it's "gauge". learn to check the dictionary. I agree with you about your other comments though. Cheers!

  • erm , yes, you're right

    (cringes!!)

    thanks!

  • @tianuria I agree with everything but the spelling of 'gauge'.

  • @tianuria Totally agree with you mate but its au in gauge!

  • @tianuria I'm a fan of them lol.

Great band!! Also a bigger fan of Runrig though but do like Big Country!

1986 was definitely their peak year thanks to this and Look Away

  • Muy buena canción.

  • BC r the best. love them. This is one of those songs, like was already mentioned, that you have to play loudly in the car...especially around areas where people blast out all kinds of other stuff...:).

I used this song for a form assembly :D didn't look at how everyone was reacting to it...just enjoyed it :D

  • a fantastic song !!!!! ... one for playing loud when the sun is shining and the car window is down

  • great song!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wasn't this song used in a Tennants lager commercial back in the 80's? Great band, tragic to find out stuart's gone, left us some brilliant songs. Chris. SCO USA.

  • The gutiar.....

    WOAHH

  • An excellent video to what I consider to be Big Country's most positive song from their most positive-sounding album, "The Seer". This is such an uplifting track, and makes an interesting comparison to the tracks on the "Steeltown" album. I want "One Great Thing" to be played at my funeral, it really is that good.

  • Big Country were amazing! Have about 4 of th eir LP's-but no record player! LOL

just listed em on ebay to get rid of-and purchase their cd's instead!!!

    you are missed, Stuart!

  • one great thing to have in life is memorie's of stuart my heart goes out to him r.i.p he's looking down on us all

  • fu** the political shi*e, the best band ever.

  • I saw them doing a gig from the second floor of Tower Records in Glasgow. They were only there to do 3 songs from their new album but just kept going. In the end up the police had to shut off Argyle Street for 2 Hours.. I was at the door of the pub right across from it. They are sadly missed Due to Stuart's death

  • seen them live 8 times and they were gr8 and well missed!! Stay Alive!!!

  • Wonderful! Thanks for sharing.

  • Hmmm, belly dancers or Morris dancers? Such a hard choice...not. ;-)

  • I'm spanish and we are having enough of that Vasque murderers... you cannot understand this if you don't live it. Don't care about Scottish / English issues, hate frontiers. BIG COUNTRY where great and that's all ;)

  • Apparement il y a 3 personnes pas très cortiquées qui ont regardé cette video... elles se reconnaîtront peut- être si elles sont capables de traduire en anglais ce que j'ecris?...

Big Country is a great band and Stuart stays alive in our hearts!

  • Shove off idiot! Keep your damn horrible words to yourself, Stuart was amazing... and they will always be people out there that love him!

  • I had an Canadian import of this on cassette. It had a completely different mix of One Great Thing on it but I can't remember what the mix was called. It was all saxaphones and funky beats. Very weird but very good.

  • That would be One Great Thing (Disco Mix)- it is a bonous track on the remastered Seer CD

  • Actually, I found the casette and the mix was called 'The Big Bad Country Mix'. I wonder if it is the same one with a different mix title?

  • Fat guy with the goggles rocks lol - but then again the whole damn song rocks.

    Frank

  • I love this song dig the sunglasses bit and the gorgeous totty in the black dresses!

I wish I could leave a legacy as good as yours!

  • Great song ,Great band and a true scotsman .

  • Wow - I've always loved this song but had never seen this video before. This has to be the best one I've seen for any of their songs -- it really captures the spirit (and especially the humor) of the song and the band, and avoids all those gruesomely dated '80s fashions in most of the early ones.

  • i,m a lanarkian...but i met him a couple of times...how can anyone think he,s anything but scottish,listen to that accent...lol

  • noticed an idiot claims stuart wasn,t scottish...thats strange cos he lived not far from me in scotland and i met him on a couple of occasions....scottish throo and throo xxx

  • are you from Dunfermline then

  • scottish like you?

    shame he was english then......

  • The 12" version wasn't very good. But I <3 this song. It's Scottish like me. :)

  • quanti ricordi!!!! sempre bello rivedere questo video

  • This is great to see!

  • Stuart a humble man of the people. He was all heart and soul.

  • Great song, inspirational video.

All very talented musicians, one of the best bands ever.

  • Thanks for Posting! All of my Big Country Videos are back home in the US....unfortunately I am all the way in The Netherlands...glad I still get to watch all my fav videos!
