im new to imports. so did everything work correctly on your eg when you swapped the h22 in. like power steering, heater, ac, speedometer? i want to do a swap next month but summer is on the way, and if ac dont work thats defiantly a no go for a swap. any comments or answers will be appreciated. thanks..
@comaro16 I didn't bother with AC because here in NZ it's not really necessary. Power steering and heater did though. AC would work you'd just have to hook the lines up and re-gas the system.
yeah i no im doin the swap right now but what size radiator and what car is it ment for do you custom mount it.a stock d series radiator wont work at all you would think it would work for me right now in minnesota in the winter
@mnsnoman I dont know much about cold mate, back in NZ where I live it never drops below freezing in the winter and summer never gets over 30C. It's a dual core, 40-45mm thick, went straigth onto factory mounts and I used a top bracket off an Ek I think, or maybe I made one, cant remember. It was easy anyway, no big deal to fit.
@mnsnoman it's built to fit EG-EK civics, it's just a dirty Ebay one I think. i have the same one on my new car and it's fine. New car is an Ej8 with H22a7 swap.
@mnsnoman Yeah basically, there will be a few differences but if you use a BB1 OBd1 H22a and the civic OBD1 engine loom the majority of things are plug and play. You will still have to run a few extra wires for EGR, intake secondary ports etc if you want to use the prelude ecu. Yeah a chipped p28 woudl run it and then you coudl turn all that extra shit off.
@choyleefutkid1 nope it was all stock tune. Yes O2 sensor was wired up and working. Everything was working, the ECU still thought it was in a prelude.
@411monster ha ha before publicly correcting someone you may want to get your facts right. You may want to start your re-education here at thezcr dot com.
I'm an Ozzie currently replacing the B20 Frankenstein in my EG racer with a J30A4 Accord V6. - telling the story on NZHondas Forum. Almost ready to fire it and finish the vidfeo soon. I enjoyed your build as I'm looking at the same H22a conversion for a mate - with the cost of K20/24's being ridiculous. Your swap puts out damn near the same power. Did you use a lsd box?
im wanting to put a redtop in my integra. people keep telling me its safer and cheaper to put a b20vtec in. which i dont understand, a b20 wasnt initially made for vtec so i wouldve thought it to be more unsafe going with a b20vtec.
@CrazyGerman08 They both have their advantages. If your car is already B-series then just do the B20. If it's a d-series then you may as well go H22 it would be less work and a lot cheaper.
Ive just got the shell so ill drop a h22 in it, wont be anytime soon but defz within the next 2years lol. Red top wouldnt be much different to a jdm h22 would it? except for wiring i guess. Im sure i could do everything myself just not the wiring, ill have to find a way to self teach myself
I've done several redtop swaps before too and yes they go great but to be frank why did you bother buying a redtop if you were going to put big cams in and stroke it?
Might have well have just started with a black top.
couple of questions get video first off!do you have to modify or change shifter?second do you have to modify the gear box mount?i have a 95 eg cx and i want to do the same swap myself just dont want to f#$k anything up lol mines a left hand drive though any help would be greatly appreciated! the wiring looks complecatied!
how easy/ hard is it to do this swap? and also what type of speed do you get out of it. Faster then a teg type R? Oh and just lastly does this effect the handling of the car at all? i imaging it would make it a bit mopre sluggish
@fraserdazed How can it possibly be more sluggish? I took out a smokey 129hp 9.5:1 compression d-series and replaced it with a 10.8:1 200hp dohc vtec, 600cc bigger with loads more torque which redlines 500rpm higher :P
I already dropped the H22A4 (OBDII) and tranny into the EG. But now i'm lost as to how to splice wire or deal with the ECU and wiring/computer crap to convert the EG from OBDI to OBDII? Please help, the forums doesn't go into much details.
In this particular car I was getting awesome gas milage, like closer to 600, I guess it's because of the light weight car meaning little stress on the engine and it was running all the emissions crap, totally stock as if it was still in a prelude.
However my euro-R H2B swap I did in my coupe was shit on gas in comparison, I was lucky to get 400 to a tank but it was cruising 100kmh at 4000rpm. Not ideal.
Both were better than my B18cR though, the worst I got to a tank with that was 280k's
what type of tranny did you use I hear everyone tell me to go h2b cause the h trannys are shit ?? I also kno there is a h2d kit kno anything about that I dont find too many people who have done it
Yes using a b-series box makes a big difference but at the end of the day it comes down you what you want the car for.
I have done an H2B swap too, (check my other vids) and while it was faster, it was not a good daily driver due to the 60mph 4000rpm cruising speed. (ITR 96/98 hybrid box)
The H series box gets a bad rep but it's fine for a road car.
I'm going H2D soon with my CRX to see what that's like but it's a race car not a road car.
yea man I wanted to go h2d cause I have a jdm d15b right now and just more convenient lol have you ever had a d series is it worth throwin a turbo on em or no ?? thanks man
E-AT JDM 1986 civic Si ZC-dohc axels with a '97 prelude inner CV cup on the right hand side. ( the ZC one is too short to click into the H-series diff, it's the right diameter just 3mm too short.)
'94 accord SiR intermediate shaft.
These are all JDM vehicles, I have no idea what models you have or whether axels are the same.
How long is a piece of string? All depends on whether you can do work yourself, wher ein the world you live, how rough or good you want the job to be and what currency you are dealling in.
This swap cost me about $2500NZ to do which would be roughly $1800US I guess, but I did it all my self. If you pay an auto electrician and mechanic it could be probably quite costly.
Also I doubt there are mount kits for CB accords so you'll have to fabricate .
Dude the eg looks real clean and Im not tryin to hate on h22 i just feel that for that much more work/money than a gsr it would at least pull harder but it doesnt?!?
I was talking about the stroke its self not the bore... Its too long in my opinion. GREAT BUILD you did it very clean, not sloppy 5*'s
The H22a is way cheaper, thats one main reason why I did it. I bought the motor, loom, shifter, ecu and LSD box for $1600nz which is about $900US, mounts were from canada and were only $150US.
The H22a pulls a lot harder than a GSR, b18c's frustrate me with their lack of torque, they are good boosted though.
Yeah stroke is longer, my next project is a F20b 2 litre dohc vtec into an EF crx, thats a de-stroked version of the H22a7 so should rev better. Cheers.
Umm do your research. B18 is 81x87.2 which is 6.2mm more stroke than bore.
H22a is 87 bore 90.7stroke which is 3mm more stoke than bore. What does that mean? It means that the H22a actually has a better bore to stroke ratio than the B18c.
After owning this car in the vid I had a coupe with a jdm B18cR in it. Gay. Torqueless.
I pulled it out and put in a euro-R H22a and it was WAY better.
H22a > B18c imo, put an H22a on a b-series box and it's unstoppable.
Not on this car, I just converted the car to OBD2a and ran the prelude ecu. It ran perfect with no fault codes, the ecu still thought it was in a prelude lol
did u happen to have an half shaft for ur tranny??? cuz im having some thinkin on mine i have a usdm h22a4 out of prelude SH.. they have an atts some shit it looks like a transfer case.. lolz.. ugly
Its the original engine. JDM EG5's have ZC's in from factory. And stock for stock I prefer the ZC. Its only when you come to modify that the D15b is a better option.
Hey man. i dont think zc are a down grade or either im wrong but in my 1990 EF civic i got the black top zc. would that be a down grade? i mean compared to the single cam that originaly belongs? i know my civic is quick. but not super quick.
wow.. i just got a quick question i just bought a h22a4 out of a 99 prelude sh.. so i guess its obd2 how hard is the wiring u think for mine i have a 93 eg hatch.. but i already have a h23a1 in my car right now but i just threw a rod so.. just wanna get a little info about the swap n what axles did u use??
no hasport makes the adapters n shit. i put a h22 in my eg6 but then had to sell it cuz i couldnt get it insured lol. but yeah its just a bolt in process
you said you used 84 JDM Gold top ZC Si E-AT civic drive shafts and an accord part where can i get these and what gearbox did you use and from what car .are there any other parts from other hondas you used
nice civic eg hatch. i have 1 but i just had it painted a honda civic type r yellow and i have dropped in a secret weapon under the hood. it's a s2000 motor, which i actually had modifiy alot on the car. i had 2 increase the front end length, under neath the car 2 so the drive shaft can fit nice and turn my eg hatch in to a rear wheel drive eg hatch, the suspension which wasn't 2 much of a problem. then i did the followin upgrades like weight reduction, forged internal components and the tranny
hey man, what about your motor mounts, what mounts did you put on your EG to fit the H22? are the prelude´s mounts?? or what?? please.. i need that info!!!!! it`ll be really helpful!!!
H22a HB? Messing with a Single Cam??? U must be on fukin crack if you actully think you can go toe to toe with one of these bitches..ALL-MOTOR POWER would smash you even before VTEC hit. C
probably would have if I kept it, but I built it for a daily driver and I was loving the fuel economy with the stock ecu, I was getting 600+k's to a tank. (375+ miles)
It was ok, fine on th eroad for daily driving at our 60mph limit, dropping down to third to overtake was just right and it went like a rocket but it was a bit shit for drag racing as I hit the rev limit in 3rd just before the finish so lost a bit of time. Best I ever got out of it was a 14.4 but the conditions were shit on a damp track at night. It was also only my 2nd time, mates reckon it was good for high 13's easy but I never got the change to get it there.
i have a h22a in a 93 accord s3 f22a tranny...if i get my ecu chipped to move the rev limit to 8000rpm....does this mean my gears will shift at 8000...or just continue to rise after d4?
im new to imports. so did everything work correctly on your eg when you swapped the h22 in. like power steering, heater, ac, speedometer? i want to do a swap next month but summer is on the way, and if ac dont work thats defiantly a no go for a swap. any comments or answers will be appreciated. thanks..

eg5!?!?
u mean eg6
ddavid993 2 years ago
No its not it's an EG5, EG6 is the B16a vtec model, this one had a twin cam ZC.
Still has rear discs though but the front brakes are slightly smaller than the EG6.
I sold this car ages ago, it's got 282's on the front now I think.

good vid dude. i got a question tho why in the hell did that eg have a zc in it? thats such a down grade fromt he origanal d15
donvitolover182 2 years ago
Its the original engine. JDM EG5's have ZC's in from factory. And stock for stock I prefer the ZC. Its only when you come to modify that the D15b is a better option.
doo0T 2 years ago
ohh its a eg5.. lol i see i thought it was the eg6. huh i guess i learn somthin new everyday lol. thanks for replyin and not bein an ass dude
donvitolover182 2 years ago
Hey man. i dont think zc are a down grade or either im wrong but in my 1990 EF civic i got the black top zc. would that be a down grade? i mean compared to the single cam that originaly belongs? i know my civic is quick. but not super quick.
vic62cu 2 years ago
wow.. i just got a quick question i just bought a h22a4 out of a 99 prelude sh.. so i guess its obd2 how hard is the wiring u think for mine i have a 93 eg hatch.. but i already have a h23a1 in my car right now but i just threw a rod so.. just wanna get a little info about the swap n what axles did u use??
bulletDSM 2 years ago
Just use the H23a loom you are using now and swap over any obd2a specific sensors to use the obd1 equivilent.
doo0T 2 years ago

kuyabigbutt 3 years ago
"courtesy of a mate" lol fag. yes h22 swap is hard, i'm sayin this since i did it as well in my eg6 but it was in and out in 9 hours!!!!
infamousGSR 3 years ago
they have a kit now with engine mounts and drive shafts that just bolt write up on 92- 95 civics but the wires are the hard part i think
thatguyyouknow13 2 years ago
if its obd1 and your putting it in a 93-95 civic then its just plug and play with the wires
infamousGSR 2 years ago
its not that hard its more easy then some swaps out of bigger cars
thatguyyouknow13 2 years ago
no hasport makes the adapters n shit. i put a h22 in my eg6 but then had to sell it cuz i couldnt get it insured lol. but yeah its just a bolt in process
donvitolover182 2 years ago

lectrickmusic 3 years ago

thatguyyouknow13 2 years ago
nice civic eg hatch. i have 1 but i just had it painted a honda civic type r yellow and i have dropped in a secret weapon under the hood. it's a s2000 motor, which i actually had modifiy alot on the car. i had 2 increase the front end length, under neath the car 2 so the drive shaft can fit nice and turn my eg hatch in to a rear wheel drive eg hatch, the suspension which wasn't 2 much of a problem. then i did the followin upgrades like weight reduction, forged internal components and the tranny

Where did you get that honda badge????
justinity 3 years ago
How did you like the H22A transmission? Some are saying the H2B is not worth it and the H has just fine gear ratios.
ProjectGSR007 3 years ago
It was ok, fine on th eroad for daily driving at our 60mph limit, dropping down to third to overtake was just right and it went like a rocket but it was a bit shit for drag racing as I hit the rev limit in 3rd just before the finish so lost a bit of time. Best I ever got out of it was a 14.4 but the conditions were shit on a damp track at night. It was also only my 2nd time, mates reckon it was good for high 13's easy but I never got the change to get it there.
doo0T 3 years ago
i have a h22a in a 93 accord s3 f22a tranny...if i get my ecu chipped to move the rev limit to 8000rpm....does this mean my gears will shift at 8000...or just continue to rise after d4?
