  • I've encountered something like that as a kid a few times back when I was still in K.S.A (I'm in PH now). I've always hated that and refused to use it (although I don't remember if I did end up using one 'coz it was like 10 or so years ago). LOL! XD

  • So if you wanna do "number 2" you can to use that toilet, the one with no door, and where everyone can see you? o_o

  • I just hope that they don't do urinal pooping like some people do in America. It's not common, but there are urinal poopers here. They are rather infamous. And I have heard about the squat toilets in Japan. Apparently, you get a little set of plastic slippers to put on when you do your business. It just seems like it would be tiring. Like, what if you took a while? You could fall in?

  • Despite the awkwardness of the squat toilet, they are actually more sanitary for you because you do not sit on anything somebody else sat on.

  • @RK831 I was in Chicago at their O'hare Airport once... their toilets have sanitary covers that replace themselves a lot like the automatic flushing toilets.

  • This is only for some places most have the normal ones and they come along with functions like heating etc

  • LOL. They have these toilets in Sri Lanka too! I was totally suprised when I saw it in SL, so I send a picture to my cousin in The Netherlands and she was like 'WHATTE.. HOW DO YOU SIT ON THAT O.o' hahaha XD

  • the comments for this video are hilarious :DD ROFL

  • haha funny, its common in asia but its not on the ground in my country, there's another level where the toilet is so nothing falls on the floor lol

  • In Iran these squatting toilets are also used!!! We also have a hose to wash off... things... with water instead of toilet paper to wipe off clean. I guess this is pretty common in Asia! =O

  • now i am scared.....0.0

  • i remember i tried using it, but my butt just fell in... >.<

  • @AnimeRockz105

    AGHHHH

  • That's like an old toilet. Ages ago, people didn't have toilets so they went outside. And of course you'd squat down to go number#2. I think Korea has more toilets that are western style now.

  • usually have walls, I think it broke or something, but I do know, no one would use that one unless it had a wall.

  • kukukuku, when I went to Korea with my family two years ago, I saw a toilet like that. I kind of had to go, and we were at this restaurant. I never used this type of toilet in my life, and my parents told me it was good to use that sort of a toilet when you have constipation. '-'... I tried it out eventually. The common looking toilet that had no wall, that's weird. Koreans, also like westerners

  • @InfinteSky Not sure they are fully like Westerners. I

In Los Angeles we have the K spa as in Korean.

    Not your usual spa day.

You get a key and a towel you are told to strip and walk to the pools. Among 50 other ladies. You get into Mogwart pools just below boiling temp, then clay saunas and cold pools you cycle through them naked. If you try and wear a bathing suit they kick you out. The ladies that work there are in bras and panties. Mind you half the customers are over 50,

  • omg im scared to go to Korea now

    wtf no regular toilets =[

  • i remember using one in japan TTATT i accidentally stepped in it and had to throw my shoes away. poor sitty toilet D: all the squatty toilets get walls. this is toilet discrimination! sitty toilet, u should file a complaint to the department of toilet rights

  • What i have noticed with most Asian people is that when they crouch down, like when their knees are bent ( i hope you know what im trying to describe here lol), both their feet are planted on the ground. And i know when i do that im usually on the balls of my feet and very unbalanced so this kind of toilet might feel really natural to them cause when they get in that position, they for some reason always have both feet completely flat on the ground. Its so hard for me to do that lol...

  • First video... was about toilets. NICE.

  • My school got those on the floor, too, on the ladies bathroom =/ and it's been so for 40 years I believe -South America, Uruguay-

  • From their humble beginning..........the toilet XD

  • korean school toilets are better than china's

if u go to china's school toilets, you'll be even more surprised :)

  • I read that that's the better way to do it.

  • LOL we have those in Lithuania xDDDD

  • @BlackSongAngel in Turkey too XD hahaaa XD

  • My mom and dad told me that (old legend thingy) that a hand would come out and ask if you wanted blue, yellow, or red toilet paper, at those places.

  • @dissassin oh yea!! i've heard of those stories from my korean friend when we were having a sleepover XD i forgot which one i chose but i died because i don't have any toilet papers to return D=

  • It's okay, you gotta do it laying down! XD

  • many toilets in taiwan are also like this, and wats interesting is when it was optional to choose the toilet we usually use or...that kind...i heard a mother telling her kid, "go to that (squatting) one! This (normal) one is dirty!!!" O.O

  • @ellsuju13 yea bcuz everybody touches it with their bumbums ppl tend to think it's dirtier. But from what I read, you contract diseases easier from the squatting ones. But apparently the squatting position is better for doing what you do there :P

  • u press the metal thingie to flush it(like every other toilets). these style of toilets r pretty old and theyr slowly dissapearing since ppl prefer the sitting ones. and im sure the door was broken and so they just took it away. bad maintanance i guess.

  • HOW DO U GO TO THE BATHROOM IN THAT?!

  • LMFAO..... oh god.... yeah when i went to china and went to the bathroom for the first time... T_T i was like 6? tried squatting... but ended up like peeing ON my pants.............

  • one time i went to the outback in oz and found a long drop toilet.. NEVEEER AGAIN

  • When I first saw this, I was like, "Oh, Korean washrooms? Interesting..." Then I saw the toilet and to be honest, I wasn't surprised. I was like, "Oh, damn. It's China all over again." Those toilets are so bothersome to use. If you don't squat properly and you can't aim your pee, then it runs down your leg and pants.

  • I like people watching me poop....

  • i would guess that with the toilet on the floor, perhaps after using, you fill the bucket with water and toss it in to make it flush... most westerners would not be used to the type of squatting involved... and perhaps the western style toilet is meant for wheel chair accessibility? maybe they couldn't out how to fit a door on that would open & close and allow wheel chair access?? still, who would want to use that without privacy. maybe it simply exists to humiliate foreigners!

  • @lamaddussa I think that metal thing on the floor there was to flush the toilet. :]

  • @rukiaino

ok, i didn't notice that. i guess the pail was probably for paper?

  • You squat down and... you know!

  • pooping in public lol =)))

  • haha ive always preferred squat toilets. Idk why everyone likes using the seat toilets.....i mean like in public or in sch, maybe im just weird. The toilet seats are actually....really dirty. haha using squat toilets, ive never had to sit on the toilet seats. maybe im just weird (: even if i go to seat toilets i still use the good old traditional invisible seat method. this is such an awkward topic o.o

  • Are girl restrooms the same???

  • Aim and shoot! :D

  • we have this in singapore too :)

  • @animemachinex3 fortunately there're only 1 or 2 squat toilets in SG.. I hate using it

  • In most, (well all) asian countries have squatting toilets. Its way before the actual sitting toilet bowl was invented.

  • ok!! that is weird!! no walls!! like wtf!!

  • So do you get strong leg muscles using the squaty toilets?

  • i think becoz (well in china we have that too... but because i a ABC, when i got back its extremely inaquate to use) it's slightly more hygiene than the toilets we have in canada (or it seems)

my cousin once pooped her diarrhea of her foot because of false calculation XD

  • HAHAHAHA can't stop laughing

  • yes!! I was really shock when I was in Korean subway

I thought korean restroom is quite same in japan but its notttt

  • but Simon, over here(Mexico, i'm not sure if it's in all schools, but just the few elementaryies i've visited there's some like this) in some schools there's no doors to use the toilets either! D:

  • hey thats like in hong kong XDD

  • Awww i miss squatty potties!!!

  • poop at home before you leave

  • Ö It's the squat potty! They have them in every Asian country...all you do is squat. -.- Be careful not to fall in xD

  • How do you flush one of those? o.o

  • @Kenryuu17 you fill a bucket with water and wash it down :)

  • Man, this paints a bad image for Korea... That was way before in time... Nowadays, people come from other countries to try and copy Korean bathroom style and conditioning, as it is so modern and clean. We have motion sensor flushing toilets, with even cleaning/drying (for your butt) machines in some places.

It is nothing like this in Korea nowadays

  • Squatty potties... Oh the memories. xD

  • I wanted to see what the first video you ever uploaded was... and its about toilets... WELL DONE :D

  • @TheDelikizzz lol. I decided today to do the same thing. XD Hm toilets, what a surprise! . heheh

  • I hate squat toilets...=_=

  • i had to use those when i went sightseeing around china, i hated them, no toliet paper and i almost slipped using one because there was pee around it ughhhh...

  • you have to squat :)

i used to go to school in china and they had these too

  • This seems more like "Simon the awkward one" from F-art, than the Simon from eatyourkimchi nowadays. Just saying 8D

  • They have those in japan...it had instructions..

  • In China they don't look like that although it's on the ground. It's like a toilet seat implanted onto the floor, literally. So yeah, it was difficult for me to get used to. Can't enjoy taking my dump :(

  • u insult other country..

  • @hazroykimura what? they insult a country by showing us their toilets?? o.O

  • I used to hate that kind of toilets when I was in Korea!

If you go into the countryside, there are toilets where theres a big hole, the size of that toilet and you have to poop into it.

I had nightmares falling into the toilet when I was young :P

  • squat toilets lessens the risk of you getting haemorrhoids

  • bad memories regarding those kind of toilets from japan are coming back to me -.- ..ugh..

  • I went to korea once and i needed the bathroom sooo badly at some kind of shopping mall place. i went in and first, it stinked so badly T-T and then i opened the door and GAHHH theres no toilet paper. Its outside and we need to bring however much we need inside. And the toilet was like the one in the video. I was like...wth? lol but its not like that in all palces lol just some.

  • they have those in japan too :/ there'll be like 5 of those squatty potties & only 1 "western" toilet in a school bathroom so everyone always line up to use that one! but of course there's western toilets & those that heat up in more public areas (:

  • Squatty potties! I went to China, and when my sister refused to go on a quatty potty. We had to use the tour guide's toilet in her apartment after tearing through the whole city in search of a Western toilet.

  • i was wondering about the one w/o door or walls covering it. well if you have a walls then its probably alright. and yeah at any country some of things that you are not used to see you will probably see. Well for me as long as its convenient for you then its okay. you don't wanna end up in hospital later. XD lol

  • we have them in indonesia. i've used them. ^_^

they're supposed to be more sanitary...

  • The first time I ever used one of those toilets was at a cafe in Paris, France.

  • hahah ur so funny simon :D

  • We have tilets like that in India too...though most homes and some public places like airports and stuff have western toilets too, that ARE inside stalls. So you don't have to poo in font of everyone. XP

  • @TheDarkqueen25 these are inside stalls too. there are no "open bathrooms" in Korea..

  • HAHA use the toilet but then pray that no one comes in. xDD

  • my japanese teacher said japan has those. i can only imagine if you need to go poo and your only choice is using that... it must suck.

  • lol its the same as in Vietnam, well only most of the places

  • in malaysia's public toilet we have both..squat and also the normal one..so..not that weird..lol ^^

  • i guess ya just hav 2 squat. lolz

i wonder if they hav that in the girls rooms 2........ that wuld SUCK

  • i know how

  • In HK they got Squat Toilet too...

  • i used to have that in my old house that i lived in for 10 years :)

  • I live in France but originally come from England. I was really surprised too when I found those here! They're all over france!

  • lol the squat toilet !

they are really hard to use !

first u have to control your pee ,lol

    second balance <

  • LOL China has those too in some places!

  • Korea and japan both have those kind of toilets because korea has been colonized by japan for several centaries. And yes, how i know this is because I'm an awesome korean-American ;)

  • @lillypop1996 it's 35 years, not centuries.

  • hhhmmm, this is a bit scary...first of all, what about not having good balance, and second, what about being totally bad at aiming? those two could be a nightmare...especially if you're sleepy or drunk O____o

  • Oh, I hate those so much!!!

  • you have to squat above it? Erm these toilets can be found all around asia.

  • I think that open air toilet is for handicapped students. Usually there is a door for the handicapped commode just like the other stalls. Only difference is wider space. Maybe the school could not put one up due to design of the bathroom. Handicapped use toilets have been added to existing bathrooms in an attempt to a"commodate" folks in wheelchairs, etc. Actually it may even be a law governing public institutions now. It is unusual to see such a "lone toilet" ..just FYI, thx!!

  • I prefer this type and I'm a Westerner

  • nah your school just have weird bathroom lol

  • I was eating. Was. Okay. I like food to much to stop. But they have these "ground" toilets in France too.. (Not everywhere, but they can be found around somewhere)

  • They look like Japanese toilets

  • SQUAT TOILET :O

  • I'm in france now. But most of toilets in the residence don't have toilet seats. It's also difficult to use a toilet without seat.~_~!

  • Warning: DON'T use those toilets if you need to poop

  • ew dont remind me of those Dx I almost stepped into one x_x

  • lol this is ur first ever video?

  • its a squat toilet. its not korean. they have it in vietnam and china too actually most asian countries have it.

  • @supavikishgirl turkey is full of them :) im glad they have the normal ones in england, otherwise it wouldv been a nightmare :)

  • They had those at my host families house in Japan but luckily it was raised above ground level so I just sat on it :P Those toilets are sooo difficult to use

  • ahahahhaha we have that kinda toilets too :D it's common in Asia i think :D just squat over it and do ur business while ur ass freezes :D ours r bigger in fact they have a place on either side to put ur foot :D ahahhaha that lonely open toilet is so freaky :D did u ever seen someone pooping on it? :D

    lots of love from Turkey

  • God if its a hygiene issue then lay down a toilet paper bed before you sit! As a female I cant imagine having to squat like that especially during a certain week each month--what a nightmare!!

  • @superstar020 its not unhygienic. what would you need to lay down a toilet paper for? the only diff is you have to squat and not sit.

  • @gonnabedess My remark about hygiene was towards the people justifying a toilet in the ground as more clean or better than sitting on a toilet like we do in westernized countries. And CLEARLY you are not a female because if you were and were experiencing scathing cramps the last thing you'd suggest is having a nice little squat over the hole in the ground. I consider a sitting toilet to be a welcome luxury and a personal must.

  • @superstar020 to each his own :-)

  • you squat over it and do your business. It's actually more hygienic because your butt won't be touching the toilet seat and it even works your thigh muscles! Hahahaha! Us asians are so used to these toilets that sitting on a toilet seat (western type) is very awkward and considered dirty.

  • omgawd. Seriously?? No walls? why lah!!! I guess it's ok for guys but are the girls' toilet the same too?

  • im not sure whats wrong with this bathroom because, although the squat toilets are pretty common at schools, the door/wall-less toilets are something ive never seen in korea.. and i lived there for ten years.

  • wow that solo open toilet looks freaky but the rest with doors are quite normal. you just squat, that way its cleaner cause you dont sit down and touch anything like that.

  • sigh.. had to deal with these in China too...

  • here in dubai, there are some of those kinds of toilets too.. here, its called "asian type toilet". i kept asking how is this asian? we dont have this back in PH? after seeing this, now i understand.. x)

  • That makes me anxious. I'd have a panic attack trying to use that thing.

  • Omfg I came across that kind of toilet when I was at a restaurant with my family in Korea and when I came out I'm like "...I don't know how to crap on this thing." and my cousin replied "ya squat and piss."

  • They have this in all asian countries. basically you squat down facing the door and do your nice business. :)

  • Comment removed

  • i thought we only have that in here.. lol.. i never try shitting sitting.. u know.. can the thing come out?? am i being dirty?? haha..

  • @kyokawaii93 To go down that dirty path with you: no it's actually easier to shit than when sitting on a toilet. By the way, Simon is getting it backwards. The hole in the ground as a toilet is the traditional way, even in the west. You have those in Spain too at certain filling stations. They look different but it's the same concept.

  • @ThePlatineist i, we actually squat.. lol

  • @kyokawaii93 You mean on the current toilets? LOL I sit on them though. :|

  • OH LOL,its like a urinal on the ground. ohh,so awkward. dont they have teacher's toilets?

  • I DON'T WANT TO IMAGINE IT!!

  • do girls have to ue them to O.o

so do you go to school in Korea :D

  • in Malaysia we're used to squat toilets too.. they're slightly different though..

and they're not flat on the floor either, it's raised slightly.. i wonder how you'd react to our public toilets~ lol.

tho' we do have both.. with walls too. xD

  • retard -___- if there's a toilet on the floor, it's obvious that you're supposed to pee/poo into the hole, whether you wanna try that standing up or squatting down

  • I laughed my ass off watching this video!!!! XD

  • oh... that is just nasty....

  • lol when i went to school in korea, the toilets that you sit on were for the handicapped. im pretty sure when i went there, there was a stall....but i guess it depends. but anyway for the boys bathroom, they left the door wide open. so tht would mean that everyone in the hallway could pretty much like see their business.....it was really awkward....=_=

  • LOL! The squat toilets are outdated now. Most renovated places have the regular toilets.

  • seeing the toilet on the ground is not unusual to me. We have (croatia) those types mainly in public toilets/restrooms since that type of toilet is the most hygienic.

  • in korea me and my friends didn't really know how what that was or how to use it. i actually had to ask somebody about it. its when you just bend down and s*** in it. we call it the shit box. lol

  • after watching this video, i had to go to the bathroom lol :O

  • At first I thought Oh this is just like one in my country but then you show us the toilet without walls and it's my first time seeing that:)

  • i remember my first time using it in china. it's so nasty. it's so difficult to use. i mean peeing is hard enough for me, imagine if i had to poo in one, oh god. thigh muscles ! LOL.

  • so western countries don't have squatting toilet???

  • @cpydiana no we don't, we have the standard sit on ones.

  • @lchar23 oh.... i see.

  • @cpydiana yes haha :D

  • lol i remember using the bathroom in one when i went to japan... :( it was weird. but apparently, squatting is the proper "pooing method" (learned it on soompi) and its supposed to be "easier to poo" and "faster". yeah. sorry if i grossed u out~

  • thats pretty much traditional toilets here in asia. korean has it similar to japanese`s. i think indonesia, malaysia, thailand, china, etc have them too, but slightly different. but now u can find western toilets in almost everywhere especially in big cities or modern buildings

  • i remember using a squatting toilet for the first time last summer when i went on several island tours in korea....it was so odd....and painful....

  • just like singapore... :P

  • ok i kinda like the korean toilets o.0 cuz they look very cool but simon has a very good point cuz i'll be embarrest too o.o

  • omg i remember the time i saw one of those kind of toilets!

  • in malaysia it's a bit different.

You were suppose to squat over it.

  • Ive been living in Korea for 6 months and have only seen one of these toilets once. He says this is how toilets in Korea even though I'm sure he knows the vast majority arnt like this.

  • Atuaally you can shit in those urinal thingies-they're not urinals.Over here in Singapore they are used for shitting and peeing. And not just by boys...I GO TO GIRLS SCHOOL.

  • They had those kind of toilets in Italy somewhere too. I saw one and was like 'uhhhh no'. xD

  • urinal on the ground!

  • that's a pretty clean one.

  • You just squat over it and do your business. I heard squatting when taking dumps helps prevent hemmeroids actually

  • Oh my god when I went back to korea for the second time to visit family...i HATED those toilets! D; i was like "...wtf??" ewww Dx seriously the one thing i think korea needs to improve on is GET CLEANER AND BETTER PUBLIC BATHROOMS!!!ugh lol

  • @iScream2173 maybe koreans prefer to use these traditional toilets? same way your ancestors took their shit also..

  • @Kleeeenex1

idk..my cousins didn't like them either :P and they live there. It's just uncomfortable to use. I mean you like...crouch down to use it O_O

  • LOL just like some of the toilets in hk yo.. so difficult to deal with, as a canadian that is.. my cousins thinks its easy stuff ==

  • a door is right there beside the no walled toilet LOL

  • really? no walls???kekkekekekeke awesome koreans :D

  • it looks like a water fountain on the floor

  • OMD That would be sooo embrassing if someone walked in! Again in China they had that toilet with no walls!! And my its not funny when your in need of a PROPER TOILET!!

  • The middle east, in china an some parts of Japan have this toilet. So its funny that you have to squat. Its good for the leg muscle! Especially if you do takewando!

  • lol XD when i lived in china, and we went on a field trip with my class to the countryside, and i really had to pee, but there were only those hole in the ground ones and i just though, "i'll hold it" :DDDD

  • WHAT THE HELL!!!! LOL

  • it's the same as in China! I can't wait to go to Korea! Thanks to you guys, I'm even more excited! I really can't wait!!! Love your videos! FIGHTING!!!
