  • wingtip and abort.

  • wow must have beeen crazy wind!!

  • u nuts u sit in front of pc and got fkloads of time to think what to do on that situation. u think pilot got that time too?? all happened in miliseconds on this event and pilot saved butts.. and u cant even be successful as 1% as that pilot.

  • But I would've landed it with my eyes closed and one hand tied behind my back. They don't call me 'Maverick' for nothin!

  • You said it best. I would have definitely shit my pants..

  • I would definitely shit my pants...and after safely landing I'd kiss the pilots feet for saving my ass....

  • why call it scary landing? the plane DIDNT land. call it missed approach

  • toga! toga!

  • Wow. I bet the wing tip wasn't the only thing that turned brown.

  • wow that is frightening. bet the pilots didn't sleep well that night.

  • Weeeeee

  • wut airline?

  • Lufthansa A320....just as a side comment, this aircraft suffered a wing strike. When the pilot attempted to correct the crab, he didn't push the right wing down enough, the wind caught the right wing and pushed it up, which caused the a/c to roll and yaw downwind. The severity of the roll caused a wing strike on the left and the pilot's action to correct it caused the aircraft to roll hard right,,,by the time he had done so the airplane had departed the runway. This was a very close call.

  • @scandi938

Very good at trying to impress as all with your amazing knowledge; however, you keep on saying he when in fact if you check it was a 24 year old (women) co-pilot that saved the jet lol

  • I stand corrected...and I apologize.

The other part of the problem as explained below was that the aircraft was very high coming over the threshold. A sideslip may have been executed (though hard to see on the film), but it tends to result in the airplane dropping like a rock. Correcting the sideslip could have resulted in the loss of lateral control, but bottom line, the captain should have ordered a go around when the aircraft was too high over the fence.

  • Bet they ran out of barf bags on this flight!

  • man that was a scary landing in fact the airplane didn't even land it was pretending to land and was that the real name of the airport

  • Why would ATC tower allow them to even attempt a landing???

  • Hey, ya gotta land sometime, don't ya? Take-off is optional, but landing is mandatory.

  • @n1ztb Very well said. I'd prefer to stay on the ground though...

  • @Deutsche22 Not me; I like flying, although I'm usually the one at the controls.

  • good pilots... bad wind

    :D

  • I'm sure that there were skid marks in the pilot pants.

  • LOL

  • fucking hell, thats some pretty bad crosswind. The a/c was far too high when it passed over the runway in the first place; if I'd been flying, i would have gone around.

  • he did do a go round

  • Nice recovery.

  • It was not a landing though!

  • yeah... it should be named scary approach

  • If I was on that plane, I'd be scared to death.

  • Nobody but 2 pilots were in that plane ;)

  • Surely if your fucking plane was turning sideways as you approaced the runway, you wouldn't even attempt to land, no?

  • Comment removed

  • planes have to land into the wind. If the wind is at an angle to the runway, the plane has to be as well. It is the GUSTS of wind that really shit things up.

  • ill be having heart attacks!!!!

  • Windy landing.

  • Crab into wind - NO

Wing down top Rudder - YES

  • Ok, I'm not a pilot nor any kind of aviation expert but it seems to me that it's criminally negligent to have planes land in this kind of weather. (If indeed this was due to the wind and not bad flying by the pilot.) That wing looked like it came within feet of hitting the ground.

  • What the hell Metalstrike01, its clearly a crosswind. Any numb skull would know that, love the sarcasm. lol.

  • hmm im flight expert and this is not pilot problem but is crosswind.

  • Wow, pilot did a great job keeping it from the ground.

  • why is there a stck waving at the corner of the screen?

  • a piece of grass I think...

  • but why is it waving there?

  • same reason why the airplane cant land maybe? -.- its windy...

  • Try landing on the ground bouncing off the runway five times when you think your gonna land.

  • alright...that one in Buffalo was a real disaster....I experienced an aborted landing in HK last week which horribly made me lose my connecting flight to China and i had to wait at the HK airport for 8 hours...

  • how was your flight...hope nothing of this sort happened to you

  • pilot training is everything and keeping cool under pressure too.

  • that was crazy

  • guess he forgot about a very helpthing known as a go-around instead of a touch and go... with that much crab it would be advisable...

  • Ha i wudnt stand under that plane ;D

  • Nice pilot but I don't understand why Hamburg tower gave the landing clearence ... to much wind !!!

  • SHIT

  • I wanna be in it!!! xDDDD

  • hahaha.. ! you psycho! peace v(n.n)

  • haha they had so much fun they decided to go again!!

  • I M Stunned.. Lucky passengers..

I hope somebody inside the plane would have taken a vid. If anybody knows such a vid then plz temme.

  • Why do pilots still land crosswind when it's not 100% proof even in the most skilled hands? I would imagine there must a perpendicular path in the airport to avoid such situations.

  • if there were a better runway, they would have used it lol. could have been a semi-remote area with no alternate close enough to fly to, and even if they had an alternate the wind might have been just as bad there..

  • hamburg-finkenwerder :D

iwoher kommt mir das bekannt vor :D

  • Ohhh shit!

  • HAHA! TRYING TO DO A CROSSWIND

  • Thats some fucking crosswind great recovery!

  • Haben die überlebt ^^

    ?

  • They didn't even land?

It's not a landing then. oO

  • Holly Shit!

    (Hope that sums it up)

  • more like Holy Fucking Shit!

  • omg!

  • ladies and gentlemen, no need for alarm, just giving the old wingtips a cleaning.

  • Okay, first, there was estreme wind gust of eighty Mph. Secondly, the wind was pushing the plane to the side. I have to agree that the pilot was foolish to land under those conditions, but he was skilled none the less. The simple fact was, that the conditions were too extreme for him to try and land at that time.

  • Lol good thing they took off again.

  • Good decision by the pilots!!

  • I am never riding a long distance plane again!!!

  • It's a 737

  • No its an A320

  • Holy carp! ABORT ABORT!

  • Two words: GO AROUND!!

    What a jackass!

  • exactly no chance in hell he would be able to land!

  • hahaha

  • you would just run into the same problem again anyways

  • Frau am Steuer ^^

  • GERMAN PILOTS ARE THE BEST.... ? Really? That's why so many were shot down by a few guys in Spitfires in WWII. Grow up and talk sense prick face instead of being stupidly patrotic. As far as this landing goes, the pilot should have been shot! When landing with a cross wind the wind side wing should be lowered so it does not lift and a one wheel landing follows. This prick landed wing high and that nearly caused a crash. Appalling!

  • Wrong. In the de-crab crosswind landing technique, the wings should be maintained level during the entire approach.

In this case, the pilot was stable throughout the entire approach. Right after the pilot applied opposite rudder (to straighten out the aircraft at the last moment before touchdown), there happened to be a large gust of wind. No pilot can predict when or how strong wind will gust. IMO, he did a great job, reacting almost instantaneously to the gust and aborted the landing attempt.

  • Any decent pilot would have called a go around. Instead he chose to continue and risked the aircraft. Personally i would have grounded him. There is no need to put an aircraft and its passengers in that sort of situation. What airline was it? I would not fly with them iis that is the standard of airmanship of its captains. What a muppet

  • He did call it a go around. Did you even bother to watch till the end?

  • A go around usually happens before the aircraft touches the ground ideally at the decision height. Maybe he was under pressure to land on time?

  • Are you a flight sim 737 pilot or a real world 737 pilot?

That was great a atttempt imo given the conditions. When he straightned up he was caught in a gust. He flew well.

  • My father is a pilot (flies the Airbus 320), and he saw this video and said that guy shouldn't have waited till he touched the ground b/f deciding that he needed taking off again.

  • My father is a pilot (flies the Airbus 320), and he saw this video and said that guy shouldn't have waited till he touched the ground b/f deciding that he needed taking off again.

  • No, he aborted the landing at the last moment after he almost crashed and killed everyone. That is not the same as calling a go-around.

  • the airplane was saved from a woman, she was a copilot in airplane...

  • GERMAN PILOTS ARE THE BEST....

  • who won the battle of britian ?

  • ten german bombers mate.

  • i heard about this on fox & Friends this morning. imagine what it would be like if you were in there. i would crap my pants.

  • I'd hate to have been anyone on that plane. I'd be reluctant to fly for a long time afterwards.

  • i know al ad that drives an ambulance like that ha ha

  • i know a man who thinks 4x4 vehicles are amphibous.

  • well ian, can 4x4`s swim ?

  • polish pilot. they fly like they drive trucks.

  • "polish pilot. they fly like they drive trucks." -- Are you crazy!? Did you not notice the enormous wind? It's so easy to make fun of people, but it is thanks to the skills of this pilot that all the people on this plane remained safe and alive.

  • skill of that pilot. he had lost it well before touching down. only a lucky they werent all killed. would he still be skillful then.

  • I guess you didnt watch the entire footage, then...

Yes, its exactly the skill of the pilot, as well as his judgement that allowed him to measure the situation and take off ground after the first initial attempt to land - if it was some stupid pilot, he would've persisted to touch down and would've crashed the plane.

  • Instead, he took off, made a circle and did a second attempt, which was successful. Otherwise they would've definitely crashed for lack of fuel. If a pilot is unskilled as you claim, he wouldnt be let to fly a plane in the first place.

The airport authorities spoke very highly of the pilot's behaviour after the incident, and his company have rewarded him for his skills. But who knew?...

  • Pilots' motto:

If you don't crash, it's a good landing.

  • totally agree

  • was he pissed.

  • should have aborted a lot earlier, very lucky.took a big gamble with peoples lives.

  • It was far less dangerous than it seemed. Besides it's unpredictable to know when the wind gust of that nature happens.

  • wind gusts are you kidding it was a storm,he had lost control well before he "touched down".
