  • @xYellowXBlueXPinkx well the normal recipe docent have it so.... You can leave it out

  • What can I use to replace the wine/beer?

  • Mmm eating french onion soup while watching this

  • What heat did you use to caramelize the onions?

  • Jonnylarris. Lol wow. That was mean she/he just didnt know. Probably not a big chef.

  • omg o-o the beginning of the song sounds like dark woods circus of vocaloid D: // yummyy x33

  • is it ok for children to eat this?! i'm asking because it has wine in it

  • @rayano what a retarded comment, once you heat and cook wine it loses its alcohol level, like with any other beverages.

  • @rayano

Calm down, its not like watered down wine does much for your precious children, lol. Also it is heated so it lose its alcohol.

  • aww the dogs look sad....... yommi i want onion soup, thanks for the recet

  • Good stuff....Thanks.... : )

  • I have made other onion soups and, BY FAR, this is the best one. Congratulations, and thank you very much.

  • Could u please tell me where did you get those awesome soup bows ??? are those cast iron?

or baked mud? the soup look delicious!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you though

  • Great video and nice soup crocks. Can you tell me where I can get those? Thanks!

  • Could you use chopsticks to eat the soup?

  • Hurray! Your video is stellar. I love your personality and style. Thanks so much :) I'm gonna start cutting my onions right away...

  • I'm about to give this a shot. I love the concept of your channel. Thanks!

  • just made it tonight. I was actually looking for the recipe after having watched a chef preparing it on the National Geographic channel, and I found this video being the closest one. It came out perfect, thank you

  • My fist time watching your channel and I became a fan!!

I love the recipe I will make it for tonight

    thanks :)

  • Tasty

  • I love your channel <3 :)

  • I made this soup, its delicious! I almost burned it on the caramelising part, but I managed to save it by changing the pan. I put too much wine and it came out too strong... But any way it was delicious :) I will keep on making it until its perfect. Thank you for the recipe.

  • my favorite soup in the world

  • i waannttt

  • 6:19 she know that shit burned

  • watching this was torture...ban working class foodies for cruel and unusual punishment!

  • is this real?

  • what song is this?? I love it!!

  • allons where is the garlic in with the cheese on top ?

    big error

  • @milolovesmusic She put the garlic in the pot after the oil and butter. However since garlic will caramelize sooner than the onions, it should go in after the onions.

  • Thanks, lunchtime will be exactly that! Greetings from Germany

  • I've just cooked this soup.....so delicious !!!

    Thank you !

  • French people smell so bad its no wonder they make an onion soup.

  • the french are cowards .

  • Rebecca Got some pretty nice eyes!!

  • wonderful recipe, love it, it taste great

  • i HATE when people put the spoon in their mouth then back in the food...... !!!!

  • I bought ingredients for French onion soup today. I'm going to give this a try!

  • Omg Look its Meg Griffin @ 3:20 !!!O

  • My wife just watched this video and ran out to get the ingredients!

  • yuppie food for dinks

  • Can I use white wine rather than red wine??

  • @eastcamdennj Suggestion: Have your significant other pour some wine in two glasses. Try each blindfolded and see if you can tell which is white and which is red. You probably can't (unless it is Zinfandel, or some other variety with a strong signature. If you can't tell, it then comes down to color. I think the red has given this soup a very rich looking color that you might not get with white.

  • What kind of wine did you recommend? Just a red or something in particular?

  • This looks sooooooooo good! But I'm allergic to onions...

  • theres no color on those onion = no flavor in the soup

  • Can anyone tell me the name of the song in this video? I NEED to know it! I absolutely love it!

  • its lovely but without wine... coz am non-alcoholic

  • I have a great hunger that can only be tamed with french onion soup

  • Um, did I mention how cute you are!!-:) Im in love...sigh

  • All I know is your cute as hell!! Im watching this just to look at your pretty eyes!!

  • will red onions work?

  • @Strange0ne yes yes it does smells great almost finished cooking :)

  • I agree...one of the best winter dishes anyone can eat. i never tried to make it myself, but will now! Thanks!

  • What is the song used in this video? I've searched endlessly, and can't find it!

  • There is a Bulgarian soup, Witch has a lot different meets in it. Anyone knows what that might be called, please?

  • shopping onions in the wind of the AC will stop the tears

    i always do this

  • Is there any alternative of wine?

    I'm Muslim .

  • @colino9mam

There's lots of alternatives to wine. There's beer, gin, vodka, rum, and brandy. But if you don't like the naughty juice, you can buy non alcoholic wine. If non alcoholic wine is a no no, you could try apple juice.

  • @colino9mam Mead ?

  • @colino9mam Is it because of the alcohol? because the alcohol will evaporate completely :) Its the flavours that stay behind in the soup. im not sure what else nonalcoholic drink you could use as an alternative :).

  • @colino9mam ps you could also simplify this dish but maintain a great flavour without the wine. Use the same ingredients without the wine but caramalise the unions longer, so they will get a really nice dark flavour. dont burn em but just darken em more :) it tastes really nice.

  • @colino9mam You can either skip the wine completely, or substitute with red grape/cranberry juice.

  • @colino9mam try a nice sherry vinegar ... if there's no alcohol content does it count? does the law apply to non alcoholic vinegars made from wine?

  • @heidishoshana umm, i'm not sure about that

i think it's ok as long as it's non alocohlic but i prefer to avoid it cuz it's made from wine.

thnx for the help . i think the red grape juice is will be good.

  • @colino9mam grape juice will definitely not provide the flavor you are looking for... red or white wines are not sweet at all and if you reduce the grape juice it will just become super sweet. I would just omit it but use the thyme and bay leaf to add flavor. You could also try a non alcoholic beer.

  • @heidishoshana oh i see

i'll try the beer , thnx

  • @colino9mam if you do a google search for "non alcoholic french onion soup recipe" you'll find the amounts.

  • @colino9mam There's cooking wine too, non-alcoholic! I use it all the time! :)

  • @colino9mam

You may use non alcoholic beer ;)

  • @colino9mam If it's the alcohol you're worried about, it evaporates when cooking.

  • @colino9mam I recommend shit.

  • @colino9mam the alcohol cooks out no?

  • @thelumbahjack it still remain in the food even with hours of cooking.

  • @colino9mam I remember my aunt used to use some vinegar.

  • @colino9mam I would try apple cider.

  • @colino9mam The alcohol cooks out so just the flavor is left, no worries. You can just leave it out and it will still be yummy!

  • @colino9mam Just don't drink the soup!

  • @colino9mam mmmmmh yes there are but its really hard to find one

  • Comment removed

  • @colino9mam

Instead use more Beef Broth and some Red Wine Vinegar, or even just vinegar if red wine vinegar isn't halal.

  • Comment removed

  • @colino9mam I would suggest maybe a mixture of apple juice or non-alcoholic cider and some type of vinegar. You will probably have to play around a little to figure out what tastes the best to you.

  • @colino9mam use vinegar instead

  • @colino9mam when you cook the wine the alcohol dissolves...

  • @seomoz actually the alcohol cooks off it evaporates it doesn't dissolve if it dissolved it would still be in there

  • @colino9mam a simple no-alcoholic Demi-glace will do. Most cooks don't really think about the wine because most of the alcohol is reduced out in the cooking but if you really don't want any alcohol again a a simple no-alcoholic Demi-glace will do

  • @colino9mam just use the stock....it will taste gud ..inshallah

  • @colino9mam you can get none alcoholic wine. same issue i have, cant use wine, cant use beef stock as i cant get any halal stock except vegetable. the none alcoholic wine will work though.

  • @colino9mam Don't worry. No alcohol remain in the soup.

  • Comment removed

  • @colino9mam you're religion has a hell of a lot more to answer for than consuming wine...........

  • @colino9mam

    Sure, you can use beer.

  • @RanMan171 lull... actually muslims cant drink beer or wine cause it makes them drunk.

  • @Coolshanny

I was making a joke. I know all too well what muslims are supposed to "not" drink.

However having lived in a muslim city for over 8 years I can personally testify that muslims drink as much as any other group. The only difference is that they do it behind closed doors.

  • If you chew bubblegum when slicing onions you won't cry.

  • your dogs are beautiful!

  • Will it turn into a wine soup? or will the wine just bring out the flavors and combine them? :)

  • i bought a crap stock and the soup was amazingly over salty :/

  • @CitrineVlogging A good stock is technically not supposed to have salt, only flavor from herbs and other ingredients. Hope you tried the soup with a different stock, it's amazing.

  • Hey I have a question can i put any thing besides alchohol as a subsitute? can I even not put wine or beer or will the soup not taste as good

  • @NarineLovesItinPink the wine is optional i don't put it in and it tastes better.

  • @NarineLovesItinPink You can use extra beef, veal, chicken, or vegetable stock or even extra water instead of beer or wine. This dish can be made without any alcohol for those with religious or dietary restrictions.

  • what kind of wine was it you used?

  • @cms4ever7 I like to use a dry white wine, cab is best for this.

  • you added the stock way to early, those onions were not ready, also you add the wine before the stock and let it reduce some.

  • Oh, yeah. You can light a candle near you when you slice the onions. It's supposed to stop the chemical reaction before it gets to your eyes.

  • This looks so good. Can I substitute Muenster for Gruyere? I can't find it where I live.

  • I made this recipe for the family yesterday. Everyone loved it-I didn't realize how filling it would be so I made a salad and an appetizer to go along with it. There were plenty of leftovers :) really a great dish.

  • Theres NO garlic in classic FOS.

  • Is is okay for kids to eat this? With the amount of wine added...

  • @peanutz23 The alcohol of the wine cooks out, so only the flavor is left

  • Chewing gum can cut the tears!

  • @flowerchild6893 wrong

  • @flowerchild6893 wrong, the problem is she is chopping not slicing, hear that crunch?

  • An this is what you do after a hard day at work, is it? Sorry.

And the 'working class' thing is patronising. Rich Kids Playing With Food.com

  • @Flanntheman1 Obviously a dish that takes a couple of hours isn't ideal for after work...but it's a perfect weekend dish. Start it in the afternoon and it's perfectly ready in time for dinner.

The 'working class' thing is authentic, not patronizing. We've even got the pathetic tax returns to prove it, haha.

  • Hmm... you must make your own cheese if you can get all that stuff for $22

  • @pageerror404 We only add up the cost of the portion of ingredients used in each dish. All the cheeses used in this recipe have a good shelf-life and can be used in many different recipes: on pasta, in sandwiches, on salads, in gratins, casseroles, etc.

  • what camera do you use? it has great qaulity :)

  • If you rinse the onions in cold water for a couple of minutes it reduces the smell

  • Hi. Loved your vid!

  • @hillypop6725 thats not nice

  • omg fod is cheap in us!

  • you put the whole spoon in your mouth... ?

  • I would spend a bit longer caramelizing the onions. Up to an hour on med-high

  • @mvallin exactly! those onions should be brown before you put the stock in. otherwise you're missing out on a lot of flavor.

  • I love your cooking...thank you

  • What was the name of the wine? I couldn't understand what you said.

  • @1960Carolynn decote derome i think

  • I missed it at the beginning - are you in Europe? Cause if you are, I would like to commiserate that chopping onions here is just about... oh, 856 times worse than in the states. I have no idea why this is, but it's completely true.

  • You are really cute! I love how naturally you use your French words to spice your explanations - Just Right ! And I must say, for working class po folk, you do add your gourmet touches and it looks delish. Can you store your soup in the fridge and serve two or three nights in a row, just grating the cheese and toasting the bread fresh each night ?

  • i love french onion soup and its one of the easiest soups to make.

  • MAMA Mia.. he swallowed the whole ladle @ 4:24 just to taste the soup...
