Just watched it on Netflix. Oh my GOSH, that was a good movie. The movie made me want them to get away with it the whole time, but the ending just... OWNED. haha, I hate being sixteen in this day and age...
best movie i have ever seen im a big fan of the rat pack at the moment and a movie with them all is just great and then when i watched this movie i enjoyed it so much that i was about to watch it again the next day its that great i can watch it a 1000 times and i wont be tired of it
I am sorry, and no disrespect to George Clooney, Brad Pitt, et. al.. . but this is one movie that should have never been re-made. Certain films should be left alone, and this was one of them.
For a movie with a great story idea, and with this much star power, this film is unfortunately a lot less than you'd think it would be. The actual robbery goes by pretty fast, and after that there's a whole lot of nothing but men going into hotel rooms, lighting cigarettes and drinking booze, and then walking out again. That, and talking on the phone.
The guys are amusing to watch but overall, it's nothing like what it should've been.
The Flamingo is one of the casinos they rob in this movie? That's Bugsy Siegel's casino!!!! The mafia owned the casino at the time. So in this movie, they are stealing from the mafia.
This movie is underrated. I saw one critic claiming that this movie is "weak " and that the remake "is better". IT'S BULLSHIT!!! I've seen both the original and the remake, and the original version made a bigger impression on me. I am a huge Rat Pack-fan because this movie. It entertained me every second. BRILLIANT ENDING!!!
The remake was retarded. You would never see someone as bad ass as Sinatra do a job that huge just to win the heart of a girl, As much as I love most of the cast of the remake it just dont compare at all
@skankinruby I liked both. For a remake it at least had pay off. The original is the best but I still see some good in the 2001 version. As for the remake's sequels . . . you ever beat a dead horse?
Sammy Davis was their best friend and they were his in return. This wasn't racist but only a racist would believe it was. It's imagining things to be offended by, thus offending everyone else. The only ones keeping racism alive are... well... racists.
@magnoliasouth Exactly... grown people can handle jokes between friends, and grown people can tell it's just a joke and not take it personal. Like most racist self-centered egotistical blow hards ready to call anyone racist for any racial remark of any kind. "Why are black olives kept locked up in the dark inside a can, while green olives are allowed to see the light of day? RACIST!!!".
Did i read that right, Sinatra is no brad pitt, I like Brad but hes not in the same league as sinatra, as yes Sinatra has an oscar! the film was of its day but for its day its fantastic, and a chance to see the old vegas, some of these wannabes really have to get into the swing baby!
I think he's trying to tease him saying how do you get the stuff of YOUR face. Since they are puting on temporery make up, his face is his permanent skin tone.
It was a joke dude, you take yourself WAY to seriously to actually comment on that. Have you seen the roast of Sammy Davis Jr? He laughs with the racism. Chill out.

Just a joke right? You obviously don't know your history. Do yourself a favor and learned up on "Minstrel Shows", then you will see things more clearly. It's just inappropriate.
What does putting on makeup for a robbery have to do with minstrel shows? Many minstrels were black and they are funny shows. Lighten up and enjoy life.
See for yourself: watch?v=UfiNT6AKG0s, it's just wrong because it's offensive toward black people. If this stuff is not acceptable in today's world, what does that tell you?
"what does it tell me?" I tells me too many people are waiting to be offended and have too thin of a skin. A joke involving race is not the end of the world. Watch the first 10 mins of "Blazing Saddles." It is halarious.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Look, what I'm trying to tell you is that all this shit is RACIST (even Blazing Saddles) as fuck! Just because it's supposed to be a comedy doesn't give anyone the justification to bash another person's race. I'm not even Black and I take extreme offense in these things.
You sure are getting pissed off over a joke in a movie from FIFTY FUCKING YEARS AGO. Racist jokes were kosher back then, just let it go and enjoy the movie for what it is.
By the way, calling Blazing Saddles a racist movie is admitting to the world that you're an idiot.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This type of comedy keeps racism alive! If a room-full of African-Americans were to watch this movie (part 2:26), you're telling me they wouldn't be offended? Speak for yourself!
actually I'm genuenly curious, are there any African Americans out there who are wathing this and getting offended? if so please leave a comment and tell me why. because as of now I don't find anything wrong with the scene, but then again I'm white so maybe I just don't get it.
Never got into the more recent version, but watched this one not long ago and thought it was fantasic. It was a great time of movies and this is a must watch movie.
When I saw this in 1960 I thought the characters were the coolest, watched it again recently and the 60's hip swinger stuff comes across as a pathetic, weird way for grown men to act.
Please. Comedians from Richard Pryor to Chris Rock to Bernie Mac (rip) and many more have said far more in explaining race relations. Your notion of an over PC world is incorrect.
Oh, I don't pine for a time when Jim Crow and overall segregation was much more prominent than it is now. I just appreciate that they were able to keep a sense of humor about it, compared to the overly fragile sensibilities too many of us have now, whatever skin color.
@zahratrutz I'm a typical American guy in 2010. You smug Eurotrash think you can cherrypick a piece of mid-20th century pop culture from here and judge it whence you have NEVER so much as set foot here and have not enough familiarity with the overall landscape to begin to rate it (and myself) as you do. So what you say now?
I say that movie two or three times. It's a shame they never got away with the money. But I have just seven words left to say: those men wrote the book on cool.
Seen this movie a couple of times. Think it's great and miss all these old-timers immensely. These guys had staying power. That's why they cast all of them together. This was THE film that year because it had ALL the strong players of that year.

Frank and Brad Pitt are like apples and oranges. Neither one has to be superior to the other.
The modern remake was a reinterpretation to pay homage to the old school swingers. not an attempt to one up them.
I mean, in all reality they are both superb.
