Note how the engine spool up at flap extension to counteract drag. In those planes thrust is adjusted manually. Also note the inboard spoilers retract after landing meanwhile outboard spoilers remain extended, interesting feature.

It's clam-shell design, which means it's just regular thrust being used to slam against the "clam-shells". It's not forward-facing thrust.
