  • OMG! I need this song but without the interview! Please someone upload the song!

  • it just so mellow and relaxing....

  • I really like this track, do you get to play with these tracks or is it just Richard playing over them and does he go over the chord progressions?

  • essential........?

  • Kinda like learning the Kenny G approach to jazz guitar.

  • Thats a very interesting headstock!

  • A solid player no doubt, but it would sound more convincing on a hollowbody guitar with Charlie Christian or humbucker pickups instead of a Strat-type guitar with single-coils and a locking tremolo.

  • how is this essential jazz techniques? THIS IS A FUCKING COMMERCIAL!

  • @MarcBeckK yes its an overview for the DVD. Smooth Jazz Techniques.

  • @MarcBeckK Damned right, and so are all the magazines today as well...Sigh...

  • @MarcBeckK do you play guitar?

  • First time I've seen G minor pentatonic box 1 and 2 being used in jazz :)

  • thats not a style i want to play. it sounds well cheesy

  • @somefamousdude actually ive played with this guy and had lessons from him, his knowledge and playing ability are very very good, id like to see a vid of you 'doing better' so keep your lame comments to yourself you fuck

  • what the name of the song in the beggining

  • hhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Jazz? Sounds pretty good but it's not jazz. It's chilled out pentatonics, at most - no?

  • is that a corona fretking?

    Michael Marsden teaches jazz.

    I'mma gonna get this.

  • Heard this gentleman Jazz man on my cable station!

    Mr. Chip's

  • I'd say this is more R'n'B than it's smooth jazz.

  • @PurpleHazeNr10

Congratulations on sounding like a retard.

  • Man what is it with the LA thing?! It just is not cool!

  • a very blusey jazz that's forsure.

  • what the name of this song

  • purist my ass... bend, don`t bend... who cares ! Just be cool and play

  • Toe-T-Lee Agree just 2 many hang-ups (lol)

Mr. Chip's (I luv it all but mostly Fusion & Funk)

  • @customstratguy Lol its sex music

  • Ooo jazz, I like jazz chord, jazz rhythm......

  • Where is Richard these days...studied with him in the late eighties.

  • because there is no rule about bending or not in jazz, makes no sense talk about it.

the most important is how it sounds.

for me this guitar stuff doesnt sound jazzy...

its more chill out, modern blues influence...

(probably because of the phrazing and bends)

to get to into smooth jazz, you should hear Mr George Benson :)

  • George Benson....one fine guitarist :D

  • jazz techniques and theres a bend lol.

  • ELECTRIC jazz, not that 50s style jazz. Any technique can work. Just look at stanley jordan, for gods sake

  • there isnt a rule saying you can bend in jazz.

  • jazz purists frown upon bending....u can slide but not bend.

  • true. even tho george benson bends occasionally

  • @fawsta

that would make them retarded imo, why limit yourself when u dont have to?

  • @fawsta i doubt a jazz purist would play smooth jazz licks on that bolt-on solid body guitar either. so you're right they use very thick gauge of strings that gives a better tone and makes it virtually impossible to bend, but you're comment is really not relevant to this particular video.

  • nice!

  • I don't know why my comment earlier didn't appear but....

    Classy stuff here

Before I purchase, is this dvd along the lines like slow blues in style of Carlton, Beck and Hendrix? ie. a few choruses of solo and then the guy explains note for note?

    I'd like to know

  • i very much doubt it, i bought one of his blues ones and there is hardly any thing on it. there is one triadic thing and one double stop idea and thats it!

  • Nice pharsing.

But before I decide to purchase, would love to know more abt the lesson.

Is it like some other DVDs where the instructor plays a few choruses of solo and then describe it note for note ala the slow blues series in style of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck?

  • Hi Slow Hand, sorry just noticed this post! Richard does demonstrate and break down lick ideas note for note, but it also covers a broader range of Jazz styles and techniques than that which you would find within the Quick Licks series, which is a bit more focused on one or two particular aspects of the featured artist's playing.

  • This is the DVD I've been waiting for!!!
