I'm Muslim so I believe anyone who believes God and the Last Day, and does good in this world, will have their reward in the afterlife. This is in the Quran chapter 2, verse 62. Buddhism seems to be very peaceful indeed. The only problem I have with Buddhism is that there is no God. I used to research up on Buddhism and I liked it, but it can't ever replace my belief in God.

Never help yourself. Not even self-defense. You freely sacrifice yourself for others. Then the self has been extinguished. This is achievement of the Bodhisattva body. The belief of "God" concept is 100% Other-power. Buddhism also has Amida mantra practice for people who are depend on Other-power.

Buddhism is just a transition (it can be called whatever you want to) because Buddha is not a name nor person, but a word describing just one thing, "enlightenment". It is just just a title given by the people to a good teacher who had taught them how to alleviate suffering. Buddhism doesn't emphasize on creationism (or who created what or when) BUT more on "what is your trouble, and how are you going to do about it?". Taleban extremists just got it all wrong.

I don't think the point is whether or not Buddhism is a religion or a philosophy (by the way, something can be both). The point is that it was someone else's and it was wrong to destroy it.

The destruction of the buddha statue was done by engineers from pakistan working with the taliban according to the documentary "The Giant Buddhas". The taliban did not have the know-how to destroy the statue. They taliban were shooting at with tanks and RPG's with little effect . The destruction of these statues was done to prevent afghans from knowing about pre-islamic culture when that land was free of all the ill effects of arabization and islam.

My question is this. Buddhism is not even a religion, it is a 100% peaceful way of thinking and acting. So why does the Taliban feel the need to destroy a piece of historical wonder? would they also blow up the great pyramids? what joy or gain do they get from doing this? do they think it makes them look good in anyone's eyes but themselves?

@hotmercedes They said the reason they destroyed it was because after the US bombed their towns and villages, they also accidentally damaged the Buddha statues, so the US repaired the statues, because of this, the Taliban was angry that they rebuilt the statues and not the towns and villages, so they blew up the statues saying there are no Buddhists in this area anyway.... i think there's a video about it on YT.
