As a teacher of Italian I have noticed that high school students are only interested in the 'mafioso' portayal. I suppose televesion and media is much to blame, but there is also positive portrayals, like Everybody Loves Raymond.
We have the same problem here in Australia, especially now that a documentary has been made about the Melbourne and New South Wales underworlds, both of which involve a number of Italians.
